Stem cell research has many people on the fence. Some people love the idea while others hate the idea. However, most of them can agree that stem cell research takes a great deal of knowledge to perform the process. Scientists who execute stem cell experiments are all educated professionals. For instance, if clones are produced from the experiments, then they have a very short life span. The clones cannot function well enough to survive for as long as the original organism. This leads people to think that it is just a waste of money to fuel a project that does not work for very long. This is considered a disadvantage because scientists and people want there to be various types of newly produced stem cells, so they can assist more people with a variety of needs. I believe that the use of Embryonic Stem Research is beneficial to society because these cells have unlimited potential. They can allow permanent repair to failing organs by injecting healthy cells into the damaged organ. They also can used for finding and preventing cures for cancers, Parkinson’s disease, birth defects, spinal cord injuries, and strokes. “Ultimately, no good can come from this type of decision-making. Fear prompts retreat. It is the antipode to progress. Just when we need new ideas most, everyone is seized up in fear, trying to prevent losing what we have left” (Berns). Fear can be defined as a biochemical, emotional, and physical response to something negative or thrill situation. Most individuals have a negative reaction to fear causing them to obtain the physical response of “fight or flight” in face of fear or avoiding anything that causes fear altogether. The characters in The Crucible all reacted to the witch trials differently and that most likely was because of how afraid they were of the accusations. If someone was more fearful of the possibility that some people were witches then they were more likely to want them in jail or hung opposed to if they were not that fearful.
