Everyone judges and place impressions on others subjected of race before engaging with that person. I think it is a natural habit for anyone to judge someone based off of racial identity, it is something we do to know the main basic information about the individual. If you and I were blind folded when we introduced ourselves it would be very difficult to get a feel on the person we are engaging with. The only thing we could assume with our ears is if it’s a male or female. We could not assume the height, weight, race or age. I think we form unconscious opinions based on a group when the one person from a group has done something negative which sticks to us to believe the majority is the same. Benjamin Todd Jealous once said, “Racial profiling punishes innocent individuals for the past actions of those who look and sound like them. In today’s society more and more Black men and women suffer from police bias. Police is a powerful organization that was meant to serve and protect. Enforce laws and keeping communities safe. Racial profiling is illegal. It violates the U.S. Constitution’s core promises of equal protection under the law to all and freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. Undoubtedly, racial profiling has proven to be ineffective. It alienates communities from law enforcement, hinders community policing efforts, and causes law enforcement to lose credibility and trust among the people they are sworn to protect and serve. We rely on law enforcement to protect us from harm. It has gotten to the point where some communities’ livelihoods diminish and trust is either lost or reduced between community members and police officers. Members of these communities become hurt, angry and unintentionally rebellious, which is even more ineffective.
