Stereotypes In Today's Society

We are always told that we, people in America, are completely free, from speech to freedom of choices. A common known fact by all sociologists is that that way of thinking is completely false. The reason for this is the way we act, from the way we do our hair to the way we treat others, is hugely influenced by our society. To be more specific, the urge to fit in is fueled by the leadership, and crowds we consider “cool” in our society.

On a daily bases people make excuses for everything. Everything meaning our actions and the things that we say. Common things that we make excuse for deal with sexist, racist, and heterosexist comments. Sexist is classified as saying that one sex is better than the other. An example of this is someone calling a male or female something that they are not. I do not like this because we are all humans and deserve to be respected and not called something that is degrading. We all know that racist is downgrading one race compared to another. An example of this is, saying that all black people are loud and ghetto. We all act the same but some people do certain things different from others. That’s just there way of living. I do not think that just because one person acts one way the whole race does also. Heterosexist is defined as heterosexuality is better than all other expressions. An example of this would be talking about how a guy dresses and calling him gay. I do not agree with this as well because it is good to stand out and be your own person not matter how others see you.

This study focuses on the how different people response to different targets based on the race of the target based on their stereotypes. This study was brought on by the shooting and killing of an unarmed black man named Amadou Diallo who was thought to be an alleged rapist that the police were looking for. It is thought that the police officers shot Diallo based off of his race and stereotyping. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the police officers would have still treated Diallo the same way if he was White. Have you ever been in a debate between something? Well in the article “ Is this generation really more informed?” We read about how people think that this generation is more informed than the generations in the past because everyone has technology and phones. But not all people are correct. Everyone is not always informed about the right things. Some people are more worried about the things that interest them than about things that are important to the world.

Modern day stereotypes and prejudice only help to nationalize the hysteria and make it appear like less of a problem and more like entertainment. This can be seen, specifically, with the current Syrian Refugee Crisis occurring in the United States. Walter Kirn, an American novelist and literary critic, stated that ‘‘Everyone loves a witch hunt as long as it’s someone else’s witch being hunted.’’ (Kirn, Walter). Thus, proving that the Crucible was also looked upon as daily entertainment and the Syrian Refugee Crisis. Society has become more susceptible to hysteria since the Salem Witch Trials because of it’s contentment.

“America” is closely intertwined with the idea of freedom, the right to determine what we yearn to be, and contented people. Moreover, the standard of living in America is higher than developing countries such as India (D’Souza 340). Even, the poorest American has a television, microwave, and car (D’Souza 340). If we consider these facts, Americans should be among the most delighted people in the world. However, Americans are not as joyful as we thought they are, as a result of not being truly free, even though they are not being oppressed (Samuelson 24). Their freedom is limited by a set of unwritten laws, appointed by their community. This unwritten law is commonly called “stereotypes”, which looming around their social lives around their society.

He must be over fifty, that’s older than dirt. In today’s society, people tend to stereotype older people like; being out of touch with today’s society, when they reach a certain age, they’re no longer useful, or stubborn and they never want to try new things. On the contrary, I’m not my age, and I don’t ever plan on falling into that stereotype.

Allow me to explain something about myself I have never liked babies. In my eyes they weren’t cute they were just small wrinkly whinny humans with a self-destruct button on the top of the skulls and they grew up to be awful people. Those adorable babies become the vile beings who cut in front of you in line, who talk back to their parents, who chew with their mouths open, who talk politics at thanksgiving dinner. Despite this millions of people still want children and I never comprehended why. Do they expect their child to be the exception? Well, I’ve learned the answer is yes everyone thinks their child is the exception but they're wrong because my niece is.

Stereotypes are a big problem in our society. Stereotypes create a concept of individuals based on what people see and force them to behave the same as others do. Racial stereotypes can cause many negative effects. Living in a country with mixing cultures, people can’t get rid of these stereotypes. Media plays an important role in transmitting these stereotypes. TV advertisements and films often display young African-American males as gangsters or drugs dealers. They always focus on the negative aspects of “Black” people and never show the good things about them. Also, there are rarely combined ethnic groups on television shows. Usually actors or actresses in a show are from one race and most of them are white people. That is the way stereotypes

Good turnout this year. All the kids seem nice, hopefully some of them are doodlers, I have been wanting some new tattoos. As it is the beginning of the year, I have been scrubbed squeaky clean to make the school seem more professional. I mean of course I still have some indentations, but they are only a heart that says “RS+DS” and a rocketship. At least I hope it is a rocketship. You never know what to expect with the doodlers. Some of them are “damaged” kids who draw band logos and write emo song lyrics everywhere, some are jocks apparently confused of their sexuality and feel the need to draw “rocket ships” everywhere, some are just bored kids drawing a tornado or a star, and the elite few are actual artists with a light hand and a good eye for detail. I like the artist ones the most, it makes me content that I may be supporting a kid who becomes successful. As for some other kids, well, at least they have a nice smile.

¨No sports, no jeans, you have to cross your legs.¨ This is what women have to do to be accepted by today's world on how they should act. Women have a harder time living up to modern day stereotypes because, they should always be ladylike and they have to act like a lady to get a man.

As we sit here no matter where we are sitting, there is a good chance we are focused on only one or two things and that is what we are currently doing. There is not much else running through our minds other than the present time. This can’t be truer than when I sat back and thought about other counties on this planet. I have never been outside of the United States so my knowledge and grasp of the world around me is rather small. The majority of people only see other countries from pictures or videos and as we all know, those can be very skewed in order to sway our beliefs of that country one way or another. So, as we were assigned the final project I was sort of overwhelmed as I have never branched out and actually researched another country before. Society and more directly myself have locked ourselves up into our own little world where we only worry about what is going on around us and not the whole world. So, as I received my country for the project I instantly started to stereotype the country and without even knowing it I was stereotyping the whole continent and not just the country. This happened because of me only looking at the shallow spectrum of things, whether it be pictures on social media or news releases my viewpoint was instantly negative which is something that shouldn’t happen. Every country, person, city, town, etc. deserves a fair chance and fight in showing someone what they are all about first hand.

Mostly every generation have something distinctive about it. Each generation could different one could be more politically active, another more self centered, another more pessimistic. Generation is when people are born and living at the same time, regarded collectively.
