This investigation aims to determine if the stereotype of brunettes being more intelligent and academic has an effect in the way they recall positive words regarding themselves. The presupposition being that brunette participants will recall more positive words regarding their hair colour in comparison to redheads on a recall task. It is proposed that brunettes are dependable and smart whereas redheads are feisty and untrustworthy (Hairfinder, n.d.). Results from a study show that brunettes are proven to be more successful and academic in comparison to other hair colours (Hairfinder, n.d.). This investigation is a Quantitative Observational Design as there is a pre-existing variable of hair colour; which was investigated in relation to the dependent variable of positive words on a recall task. As the data was formed from a recall task the data obtained is Objective Quantitative and is free from bias; due to the results being verifiable and unable to be manipulated as well as that the results are not the participant’s personal thoughts, feelings or emotions as it was based on their ability to recall list items. Confidentiality was breached although participants were assigned ID numbers, they were said loudly by the researcher in front of other participants thus participants were aware of who belonged to which ID number. Voluntary participation was breached as the participants were Year 12 Psychology students partaking in a school assessment task which therefore made participants feel obliged to take part otherwise negative consequences would have applied such as not passing the
