Steroids
Did you know, 1,084,000 citizens in the US take steroids? Steroids are a drug that boosts the growth of muscles and gives you the adrenaline and mentality to go over the limit. Steroids must be banned in the United States because steroids are extremely dangerous and easily abused. (approved by ms petty)
Steroids are a dangerous drug and you should avoid it in the best of your abilities. People who take steroids for a long period of time and want to fix this addiction can have some withdraws on you.“Individuals who abuse steroids can experience withdrawal symptoms

“The most dangerous of the withdrawal symptoms is depression, because it sometimes leads to suicide attempts” (Shei Jr 1). Normal citizens in the society can get a hold of steroids. You can get it from medical prescriptions by doctors or buy it off the streets. Steroids are very dangerous because they can cause numerous health issues and are highly addictive because of how easy they are to get. Normal citizens in the society can get a hold of steroids. Steroids are very dangerous because they can cause numerous health issues and are highly addictive because of how easy they are to get. Not just withdraws, but during steroid abuse you can have some dangerous health effects also. “Steroid abuse may lead to serious, even permanent, health problems such as kidney problems or failure. liver damage. …show more content…
Even though steroids do not cause the same high like cocaine or heroine they can still be addictive. “Even though anabolic steroids do not cause the same high as other drugs, they can lead to addiction. Studies have shown that animals will self-administer steroids when they have the chance, just as they do with other addictive drugs” (Davis 6). Steroids are easily abused. There not as addictive as cocaine or heroine, but the feelings and the mentality and especially the adrenaline you get is highly addictive. Studies have shown that animals with the opportunity to have the drug takes it with no hesitation. When stopping steroids, it's a very difficult task to achieve. “Steroid use cannot be stopped abruptly. Tapering the drug gives the adrenal glands time to return to their normal patterns of secretion. Withdrawal symptoms and signs like weakness, fatigue, decreased appetite, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain can mimic many other medical problems” (Davis 1). Once you start doing steroids it’s very hard to stop. It's not as hard and difficult like say heroin, but it can still cause some issues. Like sickness, abdominal pain, gain or loss of weight, weakness, fatigue, etc. Even if you wanna get treated it's difficult to stop. It involves going to rehab and
Anabolic steroids are taken by tablet, injection, and also by pads on the skin. Even with the possible benefits that steroids could possibly have there are many many more dangers. Some of these include deep depression, aggression, and bad nervousness. Some physical dangers include high blood pressure, liver disorders, and even going bald. The athlete that makes the poor decision to use steroids, also faces the danger of getting caught and being suspended or even banned from the professional sport of which they
In the political cartoon shown above labeled “Nationalized Healthcare”, a lady is wrapped up in a massive amount of red tape and a man is above her taking pictures. Standing by is a reporter who asked the policeman what happened. He stated, “She ended up getting strangled by all the red tape.” The definition of red tape in Chapter 15: The Bureaucracy, is complex bureaucratic rules and procedures that must be followed to get something done. The origin of red tape is from England, when all binding legal documents were bound with real red ribbon and a seal.
Steroids not only affect the body but also the mind too. It is proven that when an athlete takes steroids they tend to be more of an aggressive person in society’s eyes. The advantage of having an aggressive behavior is that the abuser is more focused and trains more intensely. The bad part about taking steroids is that the person becomes easily irritated and impatient. Even after an athlete stops using steroids they seem to develop depression because they experience withdraw symptoms. It is against federal law to use steroids without a prescription. Professional athletes usually do not think about how much trouble steroids can give them. In 1990, President George W. Bush signed a bill to put steroids in the category of methamphetamines, opium and morphine. If someone would get caught using steroids they could be punished up to one year in prison, a twenty thousand dollar fine, and a year of drug classes (New Law…).
After returning from war, veterans often face many hardships. This theme is demonstrated through pathos and logos in both “The Odyssey” by Homer and “Back from War but Not Really Home” by Caroline Alexander. These texts use these rhetorical devices to prove that a soldier’s struggle does not stop when he leaves the battlefield. By doing so, they open the eyes of the reader to the injustice they face.
Users have different reasons for doping and, subsequently, steroids have different health consequences. Some common side effects from steroid use are the following: acne, genital changes, water retention, yellowing of the eyes and skin; women may experience: male-pattern baldness, decreased breast size, deeper voices, hairy bodies, and menstrual irregularities; men may experience: reduced sperm production, shrinking of the testicles, impotence, difficulty or pain in urinating, baldness, and irreversible breast enlargement. But these are just minor setbacks right? One could say that, like those aren’t bad, but researchers have also linked steroid abuse to much more serious risks such as: fatal liver cysts, liver cancer, blood clotting, cholesterol changes, hypertension, stroke, and even heart attack. Despite all these potential problems, many still choose to take steroids.
When taking steroids, or other types of PED’s they end up become unhealthy. They become unhealthy because PED’s grow the muscle tissue, but not the tendons, consequently making them more prone to tearing. Also, the body might experience bad acne, infections such as HIV, inhibited growth problems, and heart and circulatory problems. Steroids also display a lack of sportsmanship. When an athlete takes steroids they’re ultimately trying to get a competitive edge over other opponents, which nevertheless, gets rid of the whole competitive part of
Anabolic pose a ton of risk while associating with them as they are addictive and can pose health risks with abuse leading people to believe that they are bad and should be banned across all sports and taking them off doctors prescriptions, numerous risks involve shrinking of the testicals, heart conditions, strokes, blood clots and other physical defects.Leading to bad physical proportion and one example is men growing breasts and as said before shrinking of testicals leading to a lower sex drive, infertility testicular cancer and as serious as death. These are all risks associated with abuse of anabolic steroids where Corticosteroids risks are likely Bone density, ulcers, osteoporosis and numerous types of infections. (William A. Darity, Jr 2008, Brenda Wilmoth Lerner K. Lee Lerner 2012, Elizabeth Magill 2011, Barbra C. 2007, Stacey L. Blachford and Kristine Krapp,
“…medical researchers believe that between 1 and 3 million youths and adults have taken anabolic steroids in one form or another specifically to enhance their looks or athletic performances,” stated Nuwer (Nuwer, 61). As astounding as these figures are, the number of performance drug users is steadily increasing. With this progressively increasing numbers, it is projected that millions more will use steroids in the immediate future (Newer, 61). Athletes have always sought an advantage in competition even if ignoring the law and their health if necessary. Using drugs of any sort to facilitate an athlete’s athletic ability should be illegal. The use of performance enhancing drugs is not only detrimental to the user but it also creates an
Steroids come with three different types of risks/side effects that include: mental health, addictive potential and physical dangers. Steroids have immediate effects on the brain of a user as soon as they begin taking them. As soon as steroids are introduced into the user’s system, they “[bind to the] androgen (male sex hormone) and estrogen (female sex hormone) receptors on the surface of a cell.” Studies have suggested that “steroids may contribute to psychiatric dysfunction, paranoid jealousy, extreme irritability, delusions, and impaired judgment stemming from feelings of invincibility” (“NIDA InfoFacts: Steroids (Anabolic-Androgenic)”, 2009). These mental side effects also contribute to the growing narcissistic nature of steroid users, where they feel invincible, that no one is better than them, or
Steroids are not necessarily a dangerous drug. There are many rules that must be followed to prevent these things. Many steroid users tend to overdose in the drug which causes these symptoms to happen more commonly. This can be due to taking more than prescribed or by moving from cycle to cycle without letting your natural testosterone levels rise up.
Steroids have a long-term, negative effect on the human body. These effects range from cardiovascular problems to mental and psychological issues such as rage and anger problems. Steroid use has been linked to increased alcohol consumption, marijuana use, cigarette smoking, and narcotic use (Buckman, Farris & Yusko, 2013). Many athletes may not be aware of the lasting effects steroids can have because all they are worried about is their performance, not their health.
In the past three decades, steroids has been becoming a serious problem more than ever in the athletic field. Steroids are anabolic drug "to build" growth hormones that include the androgens (male sex hormones) principally testosterone and estrogen and progestogens (female sex hormones). Steroids were first developed for medical purposes. They're used in controlling inflammation, strengthening weakened hearts, preventing conception, and alleviating symptoms of arthritis and asthma. Unfortunately research has shown that steroids have been abused in almost every kind of sport. Although steroids contribute to a muscular body, usage should remain illegal because they physically deteriorate and mentally destroy the body.
According to Brower, withdrawal symptoms might be developed in the individuals who stop taking anabolic steroids after they have taken excessive amount of anabolic steroids over sustained period. The symptoms included mood swings, insomnia, depressed mood, reduced libido, anorexia, weight loss, and even suicidal thoughts. Despite of these behavioral changes, others common adverse effects of anabolic steroids are liver failure, endocrine dysfunction, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, and difficulties in blood clotting. For men, they may experience gynecomastia (breast development and enlargement), reduced fertility, shrunken testes, decreasing in sperm amount, decreased production of testosterone, development of prostate cancer due to the enlargement of the gland, and baldness, and masculinization in women and children. In women, excessive anabolic steroids will lead to breast reduction, swollen clitoris, masculinization, deepen voice, growth of body and facial hair, menstrual disruption and also increased risk of birth defects.
Abstract: With the increase of competition has also come the need to become bigger and stronger than the opponent. The use of steroids among athletes has caused the focus of the game to change. No longer does an athlete want to win by doing their best, but they want to become bigger and have an advantage over the opponent. Ultimately, all athletes feel that they need to use performance-enhancing drugs to compete at the same level. Despite all of the warnings and information on performance-enhancing drugs, athletes continue to use them and overlook the potential health risks associated with steroids.
