Think Different
What makes a person revolutionary? Is it the clothes they wear, the things they say, or the ideas they believe in? We could all very well be revolutionary on such a microscopic scale yet some take the role major innovators of America. Steve Jobs is considered a major innovator of America even though he didn't start out with much opportunities. He was an adopted college dropout who envisioned something extraordinary; and with his determination it was inevitable. Music stores hit US with major popularity, not long after a new industry was created. The ramifications of the Ipod mini was astounding, its popularity skyrocketed. The Ipod mini was considered alternative for listening to music, since before that America didn't have wireless audio. Steve Jobs was rehired by Apple, and he decides to take big steps in reinventing the company. He buys NeXT and their hardware is what powers the new Power Macintosh. This computer was a totally different model, with its versatility and compactness. The power Macintosh started appearing in schools, work, and home lives altogether. It was basically an all in one
Steve Jobs, a Renaissance Man, clearly showed that he was valuable to society. First, Steve Jobs said, “Let’s make a dent in the universe. Let’s make it so important that it puts a dent in the universe.” Usually, wanting to make something extremely important in incorporated with wanting to change the world. Second, Steve Jobs said, “Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugared water or do you want
Whilst Apple was in a state of decline, Jobs started-up a new computer company called NeXT, and purchased the computer graphics division of Lucasfilms, Pixar, from George Lucas for $10 million and started making commercials. Jobs contracted a deal with Disney for five feature films, the first Toy Story, was a hit and brought fame to Pixar when it was released in 1995 with Jobs as an executive producer. When the Disney contract was running out Jobs and Michael Eisner (then CEO of Disney) failed to negotiate a new contract with Disney while Pixar’s marketing director Pamela Kerwin believed that Jobs “had the brains, energy, and chutzpah to protect Pixar's interest. He enabled us to negotiate as equals,” (2). With NeXT, Jobs perused computer perfection along with an obsession for aesthetic perfection, focusing on every little detail of the computers appearance. Eventually, Jobs’ obsession placed strain on the company’s hardware department and NeXT stopped producing computers and commenced a full transition to software development. Alan Deutschman emphasizes that “Jobs was described as a ‘control freak’, ‘egomaniac’, and ‘fearsome tyrant’” (2). It was this obsession with aesthetic perfection that Jobs carried over into Apple when he was brought back, and gave Americans the famous iThings.
“After leaving Apple, Jobs invested $7 million of his own money to start a new computer company, NeXT, which aimed to reach the educational market, mainly selling high-end machines and software to colleges” (Newsmakers). With this company Jobs went on to creating faster microcomputer with better graphics and sound. Unfortunately when the company released their product it didn’t sell very well and the company was bought out by Apple. With faster processing computers Apple was able to create better products and help the company grow, which was an overall success. “By the late 1990s Jobs had moved on to a new venture as chairman and CEO of Pixar, the Academy Award-winning computer animation computer-generated imagery (CGI) studio he founded in 1986” (Gale Encyclopedia). Before Pixar, there weren’t any companies, or even a market, for CGI. Luckily Pixar saw its first success with the release of Toy Story in 1995, the first movie to ever be completely computer generated. Since then the company has made over 15 billion dollars in movie sales (Box Office History) and that number continues to grow as the company produces more
As the award nominations kept growing, the money continued to flow into the company. Disney received the most profit from the movie, but Pixar managed to negotiate with its partner to receive a part of the gross revenues from the box office and video sales. Pixar made a profit from RenderMan and continued to receive awards for the program. By 1995, Pixar sold over 100,000 copies and signed a huge licensing deal with Bill Gates and Microsoft. The company announced it’s first-ever profit of $3.1 million on revenues of $10.6 million. Prior to Thanksgiving, Toy Story went public and the company’s success grew. The company grossed $40 million in its first weekend premiere. The movie became the highest grossing film in 1995 and received $362 million worldwide in domestic box office receipts. The following year, Toy Story was released on video to the public, and Pixar was already immersed in the next Disney movie, Bug’s Life. (www.fundinguniverse.com, Pixar company history)
In 1986, Jobs bought the Graphic Group, which he would later rename Pixar, from the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm’s for ten million dollars. The first film produced by the partnership was Toy Story in 1995, with Jobs credited as the executive producer, and would later be followed a massive amount of hit animated movies.
Steve Jobs may be the most recognizable founder name as it relates to Apple, but two other men played equally important roles in the successful startup of Apple: both Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. Jobs met Wozniak, or more commonly known as Woz, in a computer club that was held in a garage in a California park (Rawlinson). Jobs and Wayne, on the other hand, were coworkers at Atari and through their time together, they became friends. However, Wayne’s time working with Jobs and Woz was short lived, as he only invested financially in their start-up (Dormehl). Wozniak was actually the one who produced the first Apple I computer by using a type-writer type keyboard and a TV screen as the output device. However, he never had the intentions of changing the world, just wanted to more-less showoff his geek skills. Jobs saw the cleverness of Woz’s creation. He sold it, and together, with Wayne, founded Apple Computer Inc. (Rawlinson)
For instance, the desktop computer is part of the screen, not a separate box with wires; the iPhone has very few buttons and feels nice in the hand. Products are easy to use, almost intuitive.
The kind of world we have today is hugely here because of an innovator that had a vision dating early back in 1975, Steve jobs. Steve is a great inventor and visionary who really changed the world and shaped it in terms of how efficient we work. Steve Jobs was who he was due to his early life, his position at Apple , and his well-being.
Pixar Animation Studios was founded in 1979, initially specializing in producing state of the art computer hardware (Carlson, 2003). In 1990, due to poor product sales the company diversified from its core business and began producing computer animated commercials for outside companies. Success came for Pixar after the production of its first computer animated film ‘Toy story’ in 1995 (Hutton and Baute, 2007). Since then, Pixar has made many innovative animated feature films, with well known ones including - A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille and WALL-E, six of which are in the top grossing animated
Jobs then bought Pixar from George Lucas, which would later become a massive success in computer animation with movies like Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo.
Apple Computer was founded on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and incorporated on January 3, 1977 with the purpose of developing personal, user-friendly computers (Richardson, 2015). While working out of Jobs’ garage, Jobs and Wozniak created their first personal computer the Apple I,
Apple Inc., which designs, produces and famous for computers, MP3 players, phones, and tablets, is one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world. The company was found in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in Los Altos, California. At the beginning, Job’s mission was to bring an easy-to-use computer to the market, which led to the release of the Apple II in April 1978. After that, Apple quickly became the industry leader and launched a successful IPO in 1980. In 1985, due to decline of Apple’s net income, Jobs was forces out and John Sculley started to lead this company. Sculley pushed the Mac into new markets, most notably in desktop publishing and
The Past – Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne established Apple on April 1, 1976 in order to sell the Apple 1 Computer Kit that was hand built by Steve Wozniak. The Apple 1 was sold as a motherboard (with CPU, RAM and basic textual video chips) – less than what is considered a personal computer today. Apple was responsible for creating the desktop publishing market due to their innovative programmes, PageMaker and LaserWriter. Between 1983 and 1996 Apple experimented with a number of failed consumer target products including digital cameras, portable CD players, speakers, video consoles and TV appliances. Market share and stock prices decreased. In 2001, Apple introduced the iPod portable digital audio player.
Apple started in 1976 by Steven Wozniak and Steven Jobs as a computer company. Jobs and Wozniak had been friends in high school. In the year 1975, they were members of The Homebrew Computer Club, a now-legendary group where electronics supporters met to discuss the Altair 8800 and other technical topics (Nik Rawlinson 2015). Wozniak joined forces with Jobs to make personal computers in Job’s garage. That effort started out as a shoestring operation and quickly became successful. In 1977, the pair presented a relatively modern-looking computer in a plastic case and incorporated as Apple Computer that same year (Rouse 2009). In the last decade, Apple has expanded into a very complex company that specializes in much more than just computers. In 2001, Apple broke the obstacle with the iPod, eventually becoming the mainly market leader in music players as well.
Apple Computer, Inc. was created by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in April 1976. It started as a computer software and hardware manufacturer. Apple Computer, Inc. is famous for having one of the largest and most loyal customer bases that have helped to make concrete consistent growth for the company (Yoffie, Slind, 2008).
