This past quarter we have read a variety of texts about our future and how to be successful. One commencement speech in particular, by Steve Jobs, stood out because it talks about all the things you need to follow in life. I fully agree with the things he says. He includes three main points to follow in life that he realized when he was on the verge of death. Overall, he just wants to tell you that everything happens for a reason, do not regret anything, and live life to the fullest. This was his way of telling the new graduates how to be successful in life. To me, accepting what happens and being happy is the most important quality in life.
Steve Jobs starts off by telling everyone about how events in your life may not add up in the moment,
This postcard builds suspense in the reader’s mind. Alex saying that this adventure could kill him makes the reader interested in finding out more. “If this adventure proves fatal and you don’t ever hear from me again I want you to know you’re a great man.” (Krakauer 3).
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the justification for the State’s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court’s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just.
Do traffic signals make a difference when drivers are conducting their vehicles? In U.K. the roads have less signs and are smaller roads than in the United States. The United States has great amounts of traffic signals and symbols all over the road to make the driver more aware. In the U.K. accidents do occur but not that often has in the United States. In the Unites States every second there is huge amounts of accidents going on over the nation. John Staddon in his magazine article “Distracting Miss Daisy” tries to persuade that traffic control is making traffic more dangerous because we do not pay attention to the road, but to the signals.
Many people wish they can drop everything important to them and isolate themselves from society; very few people will even attempt this, but Chris McCandless breaks societal norms to accomplish this goal. In Into the Wild, John Krakauer tells the story of this young man’s life to inspire the audience to chase their dreams through the use of logos, involved sentence, and anecdotes.
A prosecutor’s job is to find evidence to support his case against an individual accused of breaking the law while a defense attorney tries to present evidence to prove the innocence of the person accused. Neither can be truly be unbiased about their evidence but each of them is motivated to confirm a particular position. Much like a defense attorney, in his biography, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer attempts to prove that McCandless’s tragedy was not due to his incompetence or lack of knowledge about the wild. He asserts emotions and rational onto McCandless’s experience as well as drawing similarities between his personal experience and McCandless’s in order to create a more sympathetic response from readers.
Steve Jobs saw life in a positive standpoint. For example, Steve Jobs said “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma… Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most
I consider Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005 to be one of the most effective speeches. He uses mechanics of speech to craft a well-rounded speech that is crowned by his use of rhetorical devices. Jobs gives relevant and fundamental knowledge of his life and experiences with his rhetorical approach. In his speech to the Stanford’s graduation class, he tells different stories of love, loss, discovery and difficulty he faced in his life to encourage new graduates as they continue to mature in life. He encourages students to pursue their dreams and not be discouraged by failures they might experience in life.
In the short play A Raisin in the sun conflict’s both internal and external occure for in three of the main characters regarding their dreams. When the opportunity came for them to accomplish their dreams through using the insurance money they’ve come across from the loss of a family member, one of the main characters, Walter, wishes to be successful in life; but he needs the insurance money to do so. He wants to use the insurance money to open up a liquor store because he believes this would change his life. A exceptional quote that shows his determination to be successful in life is when he speaks to Ruth “You tired, ain’t you? Tired of everything. Me, the boy. The way we live-this beat up hole-everything”(

The Man Who Changed Technology as We Know It. Given the task of conceptualizing a man who truly changed the realm of technology as we know it today, my mind secludes one person. Consequently, that person is Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computer, now known simply as Apple. For this rhetorical analysis, I will be using three biographies/profiles about Jobs including “The Real Genius of Steve Jobs” by Malcolm Gladwell with The New Yorker (June 19, 2017), “Jobs’ Biography; Thoughts on Life, Death, and Apple” from NPR (October 25, 2011), and “Steve Jobs” from Biography.com (April 28, 2017).
Who knew that Apple would turn out to be a multi-billion company that sells millions of products to its millions of customers, that such a company could rise from a man who had dropped out of college, man who had nothing, no money, no food, no shelter, who spent his early years of adulthood in his parent’s garage finding love, a love for doing something thrill-seeking in life. Steve Jobs, is this man, who is now the founder of Apple Inc. and has a net worth of 10.2 billion dollars. Steve Jobs gave a speech at Stanford University on June 12, 2005, providing insight and reassurance to the college graduates. Jobs explains how people have to work towards what they love, and to not settle until they do, for they have little time to find what
The passage of Job 3 is Job at his absolute worst. Job has just experienced his children die, the loss of his wealth, and his food. Things couldn’t get worst for Job. Directly after Job experiences suffering he immediately laments and calls out to God. He complains to God that he is not at rest and that life would be better and restful if Job was dead. This passage isn’t as much about a suicidal maniac but about understanding how much suffering Job is going through and how badly he wants rest or relief. Job asks God, why he caused so much pain to him and is there an end to Job’s pain. Job 3 is a great passage of lament look like- Job calls to God has said in verse 23, calls God to give him rest (26), complains of his birth,
Jobs says he asks himself “If [he] were to die today would what [he’s] doing that day be worth dying for.” Jobs then says that “once the answer is no for too many days in a row, something needs to change.” I agree with this even though right now every day of my life seems like I would say no, it is really just because high school seems so repetitive and pointless that it is hard to find a reason to be motivated. But I can’t imagine the college grads he’s speaking to feel much different, but then you realize that this is the reason why he dropped out of college. He was attending a university and just didn’t see the point in attending all these classes that were unuseful to him so he changed that and dropped out and that was what he needed to do, because he obviously ended up reaping some very good benefits from that decision. Know he is saying that they need to do what they love and if they find themselves in a job that they can’t see a reason why besides the paycheck then they need to change even if it means taking a risk because just getting by and doing what you love is a far better life then dying with a large sum of money that you got from a job you
“It turned out that being fired from Apple was the best thing that could have happened to me,” said Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs was a successful, college dropout. In his speech How to Live Before You Die he explains his journey to success. Steve gave his speech to the graduating class of 2005 from Stanford College. Throughout his speech, he uses trust, emotion, and facts to persuade the grads to find what they love and pursuit it.
My mom is 39 years old and there are still things she learns everyday. Still to this day I learn new things everyday, it may not have to be at school but I learn things about life in general. I may not be able to understand as to why thing happen the way they do or I may not understand why sometimes it seems like my world is falling apart. Sometimes I may not have opened my eyes to see a lesson in things but I know If I opened my mind to it i could find the answer or the lesson. As Steve Jobs presents himself with the commencement speech for the Stanford graduates, he shares stories and lessons he has learned as a person and shows the audience that there are many things to learn and the three lessons he presented were very important to the graduates life as the move on with their life. In Steve Jobs's Commencement address he informed his audience that life comes together by the past, happiness comes from your passions, and that time is limited and that everyone should live to follow their own heart and ambitions and he has gotten through to his audience by using emotional appeals where Steve job uses pathos effectively, the author also combined the elements of time and cause and effect for his organizational pattern greatly, as well as make his epideictic speech easy to connect to
