Everyone is using those innovations that created and changed into this 21st century more artificial and modern world. Steven Johnson wrote How we Got to Now Six Innovations That Made the Modern World. He is famous for writing non-function books, and those books are very interesting. Steven Johnson likes to write books about technology, science, historical, and the amazing part is he applies his own personal experiences in the books. However, he is known as a bestselling author in the literature industry. I found it that he is well-known as a bestselling author. One of the reasons clean innovations grabs my attention because it’s about civil engineering, which is my major. I was happy to understand my major more from Chesbrough and the Stevens the author. According to the book, Chesbrough was a water-supply engineer. “Other structures had to be moved as well as lifted to make way for the sewer”, this quote means, In Chicago, working lifted it the build to makes sewer system under the build and Chesbrough was observing this view. This quote shows so many different moments at a one time. My idea was how workers can lift the whole building with people in it and instand sewer in the building. On another side, I think it a good idea to do that so people do not waste time to come out and go in, but it could be dangers also. I like Chesbrough because he was a great person and he likes to think out of the box, comes up with advantageous ideas and distribute that great idea in the USA. As an engineering student, I also believe it a good idea to think out of the box. In this case, I am a person who also likes to think outside of the box and I also like to look forth in future, basically, this topic connects with
Jared Diamond's "The Last Americans: Environmental Collapse and the End of Civilization" draws conclusions between past civilizations and today's global civilization. His essay deals with the Analyzing the similarities in our actions to key turning points for other civilizations right before their fall. The main example stems from a civilization that Americans are acutely aware of, the Mayans. Diamond links ideas ranging from politics, environmentally unfriendly practices, and globalization as factors leading to the downturn of societies.
In “Auscultation” Steven Church writes about the importance of sound and listening. To emphasize their importance he talks about miners trapped underground and provides to examples. In one scenario the miners didn’t make any noise and were never found. In the second scenario miners did make noise and were rescued. In this passage Church uses simile when he writes that the “drill punches like an amino needle”. The use of simile emphasizes the importance of the moment. It also relates to the rest of the text because earlier he talked about hearing his child’s heartbeat in the womb and how that was the moment he realized he was going to be a parent. It seems like Church is trying to say that this moment of the drill reaching that room is as important

Have you ever thought about what kind of technology we will have in the future? Or have you thought about how technology will affect us in the future? In the story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and the story “By the Waters of Babylon” by Stephen Vincent Benet both the futures with technology look pretty awful. In “Harrison Bergeron” anyone with special gifts or talents are forced to wear a handicap to make them like everyone else in society. In “By the Waters of Babylon” tells a story about how our technology is so advanced that if we went to war we would destroy everything we have and we would have to basically restart. In both books our technology in the future is way too strong and

Ryan Smithson was born in California, but then early in his life, his family moved to New York. The book starts off with him in high school talking about typical high school things like his job, girlfriend, and what it means to be “cool”. He continues by telling how September 11, 2001, was a normal day in school until the teachers all turned on the TVs in their classrooms. He saw the North tower of the World Trade Center on fire; he thought it had to be an accident and it was just a rogue plane. Then, he witnesses the second plane come and hit the South tower and realized it was an act of terrorism. That day changed him, he started thinking about joining the Army once he got old enough. “If I don’t do something, who will?” (Smithson, 16).
Until the recent year of 1987 people often saw the neolithic age as a glorious turning point that made us the great spices we are today, but Jared diamond a brilliant scientist of his age wrote an article for discover magazine called The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race by Jared diamond which presented a rare idea of the neolithic age being a mistake by our ancestors. He talked about how with agriculture came biased and disease like a real pandora's box. Disease was mostly caused by things like an unhealthy diet, and biased was caused by an unnecessary social classes. A few years ago a blogger and a supporter and student of traditional farming countered Jared diamond’s article with rage due to him believing that everyone was siding with Jared Diamond.Although his argument is sloppy and could not be called a scientific paper. Jared diamond was and is more convincing than Jim Woods in arguing that the neolithic age should be a considered a negative turning point in human history. This is because with agriculture came the faults of humanity such as racism, sexism, biased, etc., the very problems that humanity has been

As soon as Magic Johnson announced he had HIV, he immediately was a role model for others to get tested and have hope of living a long and fulfilling life. In 2011, Magic Johnson talked about living with AIDS/HIV for 20 years, and how this disease is not a death sentence. He encourages others to get educated and get tested. However, when Johnson first found out he had the AIDS/HIV virus, his concern was not how did he get the disease or what is going to happen or how will he afford the medical expenses, but rather, “How am I going to live a long time?” (Moughty).

The unplanned urbanization adds challenges to sanitation system design. Still many places are far from proper latrines and hygiene concept. The important field like water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, disposal methods seems far beyond. News of the death of people due to dysentery is no new headline of a newspaper, whose sole prompt is due to lack of pure drinking water and proper sanitation facility. In such scenario, I think environmental engineering is the only field I should contribute to.
