His story is quite engaging as he was placed on the death sentence at only fourteen years old in June 1959 of rape and murder of a fellow classmate, arranged to be executed of hanging months after the conviction that he was wrongfully convicted for. Even despite being found not guilty by a jury of the murder of Lynne Harper in 1959, Steven has always claimed he was innocent, though he did not offer his evidence at the original murder trial, the jury did disclose that most of the evidence had been circumstantial. He also even voluntarily submitted to psychiatric probation in prison for truth serum and LSD to help his innocence. There was also no DNA evidence that could have been analyzed in his case. Steven's father, Daniel also had struggled for two decades to clear the name of his
On June 9th 1959, a twelve year old girl by the name of Lynne Harper was walking around her neighbourhood until she encountered a young boy from school, Steven Truscott who gave her a bicycle ride home. Once he dropped her off home and went off, she was abducted, two days later her body was found, she had been raped and strangled. By the reason of several witnesses spotting Steven and Lynne together, the Ontario police wrongly convicted him for committing murder. Steven Truscott was a 14 year old boy, who was popular, athletic, he had no behavioral issues and no criminal past. However the Ontario police did not take time to consider the fact that Steven Truscott was just a normal teenage boy, instead they jumped to conclusions and prosecuted
After the 15 day trial, the teenager was found guilty, charged with murder and was sentenced to be hanged. He was the youngest death row inmate in Canada. During the trial, Steven was represented by Frank Donnelly. All the evidence that was shown in court was all circumstantial, and was centered on determining the estimated time of Harper's death which implicated Truscott. Another thing they found as evidence was that he had fresh burns on his penis which led to them believing he did rape her.

Steven Avery of Manitowoc County in Wisconsin was accused of the rape and assault of Penny Beerntsen in 1985. Avery however didn’t commit this crime and spent 18 years in prison as an innocent man. Until in 2003 when new DNA evidence led to another suspect, meaning that he was innocent. The police of Manitowoc County when they heard about this crime immediately thought Steven was to blame. They thought it was Steven because of his past crimes and family history. Even though no evidence connected Steven to the crime no other suspects were even mentioned.
Steven Harmon guilty of murder. Well, at least he should have been guilty. Steven Harmon was an unlucky teen who was just hanging around the wrong crowd. Until he got caught with his friends and now he is going to court but was found innocent from a murder trial. These are some reason why the author should have made Steven Harmon guilty of murder in the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers.
In America there are millions African american males who are accused of serious crimes. In the book Monster there are some young men accused of these actions. Steve Harmon is one of these young men on trial for robbery and murder. Steven Hayes own brother even admits that "Steven's pattern of conniving goes back to early childhood" (Glaberson). Hayes admitted, “he would be fine if he could serve life for the Cheshire crimes” (Glaberson). Due to Hayes sentencing, it was declared that Hayes would receive the death penalty by lethal injection. It appears that Hayes would try to make indication that he was a victim of his drug addiction which would’ve give explanation towards the Cheshire crime that was committed. However, Hayes might have been finding any type of excuse he can conjure up in order to buy himself more time from his execution.
The questionable forensic evidence, the untrustworthy witnesses and the insufficient investigation are all reasons why Steven Truscott should never have been charged with the rape and murder of Lynne Harper. Being charged with something you did not commit is something nobody wants to go through. Evidence, witnesses and the investigation portion is very important for a case to run correctly. It took Steven Truscott 42 years to finally get his name cleared. He went through many trials and hearings to finally get the news one day that he was free to go. Most of his life was taken from him that he will never get back. “They finally got it right after all these years. I am so used to fighting. Now we don’t have to fight anymore.”
In the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers, a 16 year old boy named Steve Harmon is on trial with his neighborhood acquaintances, Bobo Evans and James King, for felony murder. Mr. Myers tells the story of Steve's experience through Steve's own writing in a journal that can be viewed by the court. There are many reasons to think that Steve is guilty. Steve lies and changes his persona in the story. In the beginning of the story his statements do not match up with his testimony in the end often answering his questions in court with ¨ I don't know “ or ¨ I don't remember¨.
Edwin J. Delattre describes in “Some Reflections on Success and failure in Competitive Athletics” that competitive athletics require a touchstone relationship of competitors’ i.e. that competitors have a moral and logical obligation to not engage in cheating. Competitive sports leagues and organizations have taken several measures to achieve competitive balance or fairness in regards to the spirit of competition. Competitive leagues have implemented the draft process to ensure that teams with the worst records are able to acquire top draft pick players to help improve losing teams, and salary caps to prevent a select few teams from acquiring all of the talented players and depriving the rest of the league from being able

Steve admits that he had knowledge of the robbery. Steve’s Alibi doesn’t hold much ground either.
