Have you ever thought of escaping to a world of magic and interdimensional chaos or are you more of aliens from outer space type of person? Cartoons can allow our imagination to roam free on our TV screens but two cartoons struck out to me; Steven Universe and Star vs. the Forces of Evil. Both have the same concept but one of them seems to have the upper hand and even success on top of its
This weekend, I had the great opportunity to attend the American Meat Science Association Student Leadership Conference. Early Friday morning, I hopped in the van with the meats judging team and graduate students as we headed to Olathe, Kansas. Our first stop was in Kansas City, Kansas at Bichelmeyer Meats.
“Do or do not,” says Yoda, in the acclaimed science fiction movie Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, “there is no try” (Empire). This quote is perhaps the most famous of the character’s, and perhaps one of the most famous in the whole franchise. It highlights an idea that the scene perpetuates: the fact you intend to do something doesn’t matter, only whether or not it is done. This is not a perfect metaphor for the application of knowledge, but it fits in rather easily. Without an effect, an application, all you have is abstract knowledge – that trying that Yoda denies – and in that way value has been diminished. Two areas of knowledge which especially highlight the values and limitations of that claim are the natural sciences and religion.
each other. Both have strong followings of loyal fans that live and breath these classic
The Star Wars movie is an epic movie that was such a success in the 1970s. This movie was made by George Lucas. At that time, Star Wars not only was an epic because of the screenplay, it also became an epic by the quality sound and effects of the 70s decade. People at that time would never guess that a movie like star wars can be made at that time. The story begins as the empire attack Princess Leia’s space ship because they want to attain secret transmissions sent from rebel forces which are in Princess Leia’s possession. During the course of the story there were appearing villains whose mission were to destroy the rebels (heroes). The main anti-heroes are Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Darth Vader, Storm troopers. These
In 1949 Joseph Campbell published his book on myth and heroic archetypes known as “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”. Most importantly, the book outlined the 17 stages of a mythological hero's journey. Star Wars: A New Hope is no exception to the many stories that contain a lot of the main principles presented in the 17 stages of a mythological hero's journey. While writing Star Wars, George Lucas became fascinated with Joseph Campbell’s book. Even though this wasn't necessarily the basis of his story, he was certainly influenced by his obsession with the monomyth.
As Gorbachev once said, “We need Star Peace, not Star Wars” (Pettinger Tejvan). Gandhi, Chavez, and Gorbachev are three people who believe in equality in this world and all want one thing… world peace. These dedicated individuals participated in protests, marches, and fasts to help inspire and enact in human rights issues.
When the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, was interviewed nearly twenty years ago, he stated that it was not his intent to use Star Wars to create a new religion or ideology. However, regardless of his intent, the movie series has raised questions regarding its ability to attain such a devoted following, as well as the religious effects that it has on said following. Consequently, this thesis will investigate the religious themes and mythological elements of the Star Wars series and use this analysis to corroborate the position that Star Wars functions as religion for the fans. It will analyze the religious elements and myths that are embedded in the general story, as well as those that are unique to the individual movies, by highlighting

“Luke, I am your father”, is a line that is well known around the world by its fans and even by people who has never seen the Star Wars movies. It’s a movie and text that everyone has heard of and that has also influenced their life in some way. Since it was first released in 1977, its fans had found ways to incorporate the fantasy/science fiction film into the everyday life, weather its dressing up for Halloween as one of the characters or even saying to a friend, “May the force be with you”. George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars created a story that children can relate to and help them to use their imagination of the possibilities of life in outer space. Anakin Skywalker is a magnificent example to the coming of age theme as he grows in to the person he is
In the popular movie series Star Wars, Yoda orders Luke, a young jedi in training, to lift his crashed spaceship out of the swampy waters. Only having had minimal training in the matter, Luke faces a lack of confidence in himself, causing his task to become all the more difficult. Yoda then explains to Luke that there is no difference between lifting a stone and lifting his spaceship, the only difference lies is in his mind. Trusting Yoda’s words Luke says, “Okay, I’ll give it a try.” Before Luke could turn around Yoda retains him from moving forward and shouts, “Try not! Do! Or do not! There is no try!” Yoda means there is a difference between “trying” and “doing.” That is, when you “try” to do a task you do so with the belief or
American animator, screenwriter, director, producer and songwriter Rebecca Sugar (En.wikipedia.org, 2017) is renowned within today’s film and TV industry. Excelling within the ranks of television company Cartoon Network, she has worked tirelessly to bring two profound and critically-acclaimed cartoons to life. She is known most notably for her original series Steven Universe, following a young boy who shares his name with the cartoon’s title and his adventures with his alien guardians. The show was released in late 2013 and is ongoing. Though it seems like a simple, almost childish concept, Sugar has developed the series, both through characterisation and plot, often representing newfound Western societal values throughout. Though these themes can often be considered controversial and provoking to some, they are portrayed respectfully and accurately by the show’s creative team and Sugar herself. Steven Universe’s strongly positive representation and inclusion of such themes reflects a profound shift in Western society towards the re-assertion and strengthening of values such as tolerance, diversity, and empathy, containing progressive depictions of contemporary issues in the modern day.
Thesis: The American people see themselves as the rebels in The Star Wars original trilogy, instead, the Empire is a reflection of the U.S created by George Lucas as a protest against U.S imperialism during the Cold War.
The world of comic books has long been home to heroes and heroines. So it was little surprise that Marvel took the Star Wars Universe into the comic book world with great enthusiasm all the way back in the 1970's. They would later be followed by Dark Horse Comics when the Expanded Universe really reached its stride. The heroes of the movies were quickly joined by those from the novels as well as new creations for the medium.
In conclusion, humans are capable of both good and evil. Both of the novels show the protagonist caring about other people over themselves. Also, they are both hoping for the world to be a better place.Moretheless, evil is always found all around us, even when we do not know, which also result in goodness being around us, it is just that we would have to look harder for it.All of this comes down to it evil is much easier to find than goodness. Both of the authors gave us an idea of how evil can take control of your life and even take the things you love the most away. The authors also focus about how good can come at anytime in your life. Also, they focus on the evil of human nature which teaches us that even the people around us have evil
To be human, means having the ability to articulate emotions and ideas that can lead to questioning what is good and what is evil. The theme of good and evil is expressed through the eyes of the man and the boy, who label people as either good guys or bad guys. While the boy has a more simplistic idea of good and evil, the man has a hard time grasping the difference between who the good guys and the bad guys are. He wonders as to what makes him any different from the cannibal blood cults, who like them are just trying to survive. Humans have a distinct need to try and distinguish between bad and good, even when we can't come up with a way of defining them. In a world where there is even less of a fine line between who is good and evil, the
