During my exploration of the different virtual museums that are available online, one museum stuck out greatly in my mind. The Tigertail virtual museum was quite informative and has an extensive collection of all different types of art. It features some of my favorites and does a great job of visually describing man’s journey through time from the early civilizations to present day societies. I found the museum to be extremely navigable and thoroughly thought out. I especially like the part of the museum that deals with restorations. With informative descriptions anyone visiting the museum can gain a strong historical sense of how history has played out. My favorite single work in this museum is the amazing site built completely out of stone. Stonehenge is a site with stones set in nested circles. It is thought to have been used originally to study the stars and for about 15 centuries after that, for religious purposes. Stonehenge is my favorite piece of art because it has been around for so such a long time. When you think of art, for most people pictures of things pop into their head on canvas and various types of paper or metal. Stonehenge is a …show more content…
When you first enter the museum it takes you to the entry floor, which starts the timeline off with a section called prehistoric and ancient art. This section covers from 10,000 BCE to 300 CE, and does an excellent job visually describing prehistoric artifacts. My favorite part of this floor is the Foucault Pendulum which shows a ball swinging in a pit the emulates the earth’s rotation and keeps perfect sidereal time. As you travel through the various floors the timeline grows closer to present day. Through five different floors of art, I found there were extensive descriptions of most artists including a multitude of their works. Overall, the museum is organized quite well and I found it easy to
Back in my school years I used to visit many historical museums, where I learned a lot about the culture and society of the past. As I have always been interested in history and arts, all that was a breathtaking experience for me. I believe that these museums is the best way to get closer to lives of our ancestries and it can help us to see the world in a different way. However, to be more knowledgeable about the world we live in, it’s also extremely important to be familiar with modern art. So this time I decided to experience something new and started searching for a museum which would contain works of contemporary artists. Tampa Museum of Art was a great option. This Museum was founded in 1979 and since then it has curated three exhibitions covering the Classical World to Mid-Century Modernist works,
The first piece of art work that I saw was the work of Frederick William MacMonnies (1863-1937) I felt it captured my attention as I first walked into the room. The unique sculpture “DIANA” really impressed me by depicting a Roman Goddess poised with her bow raised high and ready for the hunt. It was also interesting because the women of that time period were not known as hunters, they were known for being mothers and wives. The piece of art work was medium in sitting on top of a pedestal as you walked into the main exhibit room. There was lots of background information on the poster written below this artwork. It told a story of how MacMonnies and his contemporaries got their inspiration in ancient Greek and Roman culture, and it also took some of the Italian Renaissance into account when making the piece.
The first week of the semester is in the books and I have to say I’m happy with how all of my classes started. For this journal entry we were asked to compare three websites and answer several questions about how we feel about each website. The three website are Lascaux, Stonehenge, Ancient Egypt. From the little bit of time I’ve spent looking at each website I have to say the Stonehenge was my favorite one. Making that decision was really hard; the websites were all equally weird and had something that made it stand out from each other. If I had to make a decision on which place would be the most fun to explore I would have to say StoneHenge. The reason being it looks like it’s the safes place between the three. Another reason I would I think it would be fun to explore the StoneHenge is I found myself really interested in some of the facts about this places.
Every effort should be made ahead of time to identify a museum that has items and works one can easily connect to our HUM 111 class and book. Since HUM 111 covers from ancient times to the 1500s AD, it makes more sense to focus on items from that time frame. In general, museums with artistic cultural artifacts and fine arts work better than history museums.
The Museum included photos and information about the cultures and the history of Tucson. It was fascinating to see how people lived back in the day and compare it to now. It also had ancient artifacts from back in the day such as ancient cars, dresses, utensils, machines, beds and etc. Seeing the artifacts was very interesting to me because it enhances knowledge of their culture. The museum preserves artifacts of historical significance for the future generation.
I really enjoyed visiting this museum, I learned a lot about African American old lifestyle. Some of the art pieces show the African American social struggle past, honoring important Africans, music, poetry, writing, history, and inventions. The African American museum has 5 exhibit— The African American Journey West, Reflections on the Self, Rhythm of Vision: The Artistry of Overton Loyd, Oh Snap! West Coast Hip Hop, and Evolution of the Revolution. Although the museum was not really much focus on African American lifestyle, it was still interesting, because 2 exhibits are based on how now days they are able to express
They display vary from actual replications of stores, the wildlife that can be found here, and the Native American artifacts that were found in this city. Most of the exhibits are pleasing to look at and well organized. They did a great job with making the replica store displays interactive with getting to press the button to hear the telling of what is being viewed and getting to learn more about this area from history. Some areas, though, are more cluttered and hsve quite a lot to try and take in all at once. An example of this is the area with the war memorabilia. In the display case there is a lot of objects such as photos or items like canteens and clothing items all lumped together. It is neat to look at and learn more about the army and war our veterans were a part of, but this display is bit overwhelming. There does not seem to be any true inaccuracies in the displays at the museum. There could potentially be small ones like an item being put in the wrong display in the store replications that might keep it from being completely historically accurate, or the dinosaur exhibit could be inaccurate because the dinosaur replica is of one that was thought to have roamed here. There is chance that it may not have which leaves it open to the potential to be a historically inaccurate
Much like the name suggests, the exhibits revolve around two of the most defining aspects of history, Art and Science. Their galleries include displays from both the past and present, along with a planetarium for shows about our galaxy and the always entertaining laser rock shows. To learn about events and new exhibits coming to the Museum of Art and Sciences, you can visit their website here.
Before I went to the museum, my prospective about a museum was poor expectations. What can a museum will offer? , this was one of the questions that I always had in mind. For these reasons, I never thought that I could enjoy a museum tour. However, everything change after visited the Phoenix Art Museum. I went to the trip with poor expectations, but since I arrived in the lobby with all of my classmates and the professor. I started feel that this trip will be sash an educational experience.
The Ashmolean had a very confusing layout, which I ended up getting lost by all the different staircases. The certain part of the museum that interested me the most was the Egyptian section. I’ve always been interested about the pharaohs, pyramids, and the mummification process so I’m obviously partial to the exhibit more so than others. Just looking at their norms and cultures fascinates me and how selfish the Pharaohs, Kings, and royal families were to the civilians. Making the slaves build a pyramid as their tomb and fill it with fems, money, herb, and food is dumbfounding of now they could believe that! Also how ridiculous the mummification process is , but how magnificent it is to see how beautifully incase the body and how well they
In this day and age, art museum websites are some of the most pleasant websites to visit. They are known for their eye-catching graphics, beautiful works of art, and excellent organization. Art museum websites inform readers about artists, the museum itself, artwork and history. For example, the Met website or the Frist website are they are both famous websites that function correctly. However, the Met website is better and more effective than the Frist website because it contains superior display, content, and organization.
My experience to the Menil Collection was interesting. I was able to extend my art appreciation further when collaborating lecture into the museum artwork to better enjoy the work. I visited all of the galleries and my favorite was the Flavin Installation because of the light design he chose. Within my whole experience visiting the museum I would say that the art I enjoy most is buildings of architecture.
I toured the virtual Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Though it was not face-to-face, I still really enjoyed my experience through the virtual word. I was more fascinated about the liveliness in the virtual world than anything else. I think the virtual museum itself was more of a work of art than the art it displayed because it covered almost every inch from many different points of view in the museum. I also liked how it was pretty easy to operate and move around, and no matter how much I zoomed in or out I could read almost everything perfectly fine. While being able to explore this museum from the comfort of my own home was a plus, I truly missed out on being able to read the display labels to learn more about the artifacts. Reading about the history or story behind a work of art is, in my opinion, the best part. This virtual tour was captivating, and I hope to someday visit the museum in person.”
While at the museum I visited the West Galleries first. In there were a lot of charcoal paintings. They were all very powerful and had so much meaning to them. They
It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the first time. Find out what there is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions are currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you.
