A major part of our world today is women wanting a voice and to be treated just as equal as men. Women’s fighting for their rights has been going on since early as the 1900s and still currently in 2014. Although we have had made improvements the issue still arises everyday in the workplace, household, etc. Between different movements, powerful people standing up, or drastic matters being taken, women were fed up and for once were finally standing up for themselves. From wanting the right to vote, civil rights in the United States between same sex couples, and outside the household work, the list would just begin to grow and grow everyday as women became more powerful and began speaking up for not only themselves but everyone else who is effected …show more content…

Stonewall: The Beginning and Makers: Women Who Made America both created lots of attention that brought much more awareness and supporters to the causes. In an article I found regarding STB a leader named Frank Kameny, who is a leader in the gay rights movement states, “estimates that there were 1,000 organizations formed within a year after Stonewall. After two years, 2,500. After three years, he stopped counting. Progress has been enormous…” The modern women’s movement had women from all different classes coming together determined to achieve their goals. These women who started standing up brought so much power to others who didn’t have a voice. Change was beginning to be made and it was also starting to be known to everyone. This change brought much happiness and strength but also disappoint and rage to others. In an article I found online, in a video Callie Khouri states, “For the first time men were having to look at themselves at secondary characters and stereotyped and they did not like it.” Women who were not happy in their homes and wanted work were starting to feel strong enough to do things they never thought they could do before. Finally having a voice and people to back you up brought much strength. Although the movements were different each cause and movement produced the most important thing, which was awareness, and many more
