The Story of Grandmother
Religion has always been around for many years and will continue to live on. Since 2014, there are an estimated 4,200 different religions, all over the world each believing in different things Having their own set of rules and tradition that must be followed. Storytelling became a way to give people advice or telling people what would happen if they disobey their religious rules or tradition. In the story of a grandmother, it critiques religion for the way it can lead to snap judgments and a loss of freedom. Religions set a snap judgment of people in the same religion or even in different religions. Each religion slandering the others, some examples are Christianity believe the pagans worships the devil while The Romans slandering Christians say that they are atheist and cannibals. Each religion creating conflict with the next sometimes this can lead to war, which is called the Holy wars killing each other in the name of their gods. While it can lead to many conflicts outside of their religious group they are a bigger one inside. If a person from the group

They believed with every sin there is a consequence in a red riding hood, she was going to fall for the sin, but then, later on, realize and was able to escape, If red would have never realized it her consequence would have been death, Because of this fear it also created the loss of freedom. Many people obeying their rules not being able to see that there is much more to life than living in fear or even being able to see other beliefs or religion that are all over the world for them to explore and decide without them being judged or being disowned from their family, friends or religious group becoming out cast from everything you had. One religion that allows people decide to whether they want to live the life they grew up in or pick another without being outcast or disown from their family would be the
My great-grandmother was raised by her mom, dad, and other relatives. She, and many cousins, were raised up as brother and sister in a close-knit family. Harriett Marshall, my great-grandmother, was born in Saltillo, Tennessee on January 7, 1931. She has lived through many trying times. It is a blessing to live through so many events that changed the nation, even the world. She has lived through the following events and many more: The Great Depression, World War II, the historic signing of Jackie Robinson, Brown v. Board of Education, the Civil Rights movement and many more.
Throughout the ages there have been several main religions to include Christianity, Judaism, Roman Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. There have been wars in the name of religion, as well as massacres for the same reason. However over the last century there has been a shift in ideology, a fracture in religious ideology that have caused multiple subgroups of the originals to form and prosper which have I believe came to be because of multiple wars.
“Her stories bring to life a land overflowing with churches and self-proclaimed Christians, where religion is present everywhere, but rarely practiced in its true form” (Harris Para.1). O’Connor includes religious beliefs in her stories, however it may seem as it is rarely performed until in need of help or trouble. This is very well presented in one of her stories “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” where the grandmother only talks about religious faith when she is about to be killed. “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” is a story based on the presence of god when the family is about to be killed by the Misfit. O’Connor tends to give the people who are least deserving the belief of faith and god. The grandmother tends to judge people, however she is the one who turns to god when she and her family are about to die. The grandmother realizes that she is the reason her family is going to be killed, because the house is not in Georgia but in Tennessee instead. The end of the story is where the religion aspect starts to play a role, when the grandmother asks the Misfit “Do you ever pray?” (O’Connor 718). Though grandmother is proclaimed as a bad person who is always judging people “people are certainly not nice like they used to be.” (O’Connor 714), she still believes in God, and believes that he will get them out of any trouble. Though the Misfit used to be a gospel singer for a while, something changed him. He now kills people instead of paying his respect in the religious
Imagine how California would be if there is no immigration? Immigration is what has made California what is today. Without it, California would not be California. I am immigrant because I wanted better opportunities to provide for myself and my family. However, what about Connie Young Yu’s grandmother or Mexican immigrants? What brought the immigrants here? Each immigration has a different purpose in order to come California, but as Richard Rodriguez and Conni Young Yu describes in their section, getting to the place that is a land of immigrants is not always easy. Connie Young Yu, the author of the story of our grandmothers, is a historian, archaeologist, and author on the Chinese experience in America. Rodriguez is a Mexican American writer and has written many articles about immigration. He describes the immigration of Mexicans in his selection called proof. They focus on people whom the California dream has attracted through the years, including immigrants from Latin America, Asia, and the Near East. Therefore, as we read their stories, we are exploring the different lives of Californian’s immigrants, and the readers also
Religion is a particular system of faith and worship, and almost everybody has a set religion. Although every religion has a set list of rules and demands, and set of behaviors for those who practice, not everyone interprets or practice a religion the same way. Religion changes depending on the person, place, or experience. In the first five short stories we read, the main characters were faced with a situation that tested their religions and their ideas of said religions. In A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O’ Connor, a grandmother’s religion is brought to judgment and light when she and her family face a cold-blooded killer, the Misfit.
Oh Junior, such a poor kid. Growing up with such an array of disabilities has definitely taken a toll on him. Seeing him constantly falling victim to teasing and bullying certainly makes me sad but sometimes I feel that he brings it upon himself; of course I am not allowed to say that though, being his grandmother I am required to be supportive of my grandson. I wish that he would somehow manage to at least find a few new friends. The only kid I ever see him around is that Rowdy boy. I know that they have been friends since birth but he is absolutely cruel and is constantly fighting others on the reservation - I do not think that he is a very good influence for Junior to be around. Rowdy had
The religions of division; some see those who belong to a specific religion as having somewhat of an us versus them mentality thus creating an insiders and outsiders situation as the byproduct of such an atmosphere; this is often the result of any community of people who chose to categorize the population into those who belong to the group from those who don’t. In every religion, that has a law attached to it, there are certain rules and regulations you are expected to follow if you are to fit in. Most religions are more strict then others, the word religion comes from the Latin word, “religare”, which means ‘to bind tightly’, so religion could most definitely defined as something that either can bind tightly around
My grandmother, Joan Stackhouse, has been the most influential woman in my life. She was born in the late 1930s and raised during the time where African Americans didn’t have many rights. She told me about a time where all she could do is clean houses to earn a couple cent to support the family. Her husband worked as a policeman and was barely home. When an educational opportunity became available she took advantage of it and began taking classes at Francis Marion University to later become a teacher’s aid. Today at almost 80 she’s battling Rheumatoid Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and a couple other things that comes with old age. But she remains strong. my grandmother has influenced me to remain strong regardless of the situation and has taught
I think the grandmother was killed last not because she was the only one pleading for her life, or the fact that she was the only one to recognize who the misfit’s were. I think it was for the shear please the misfit’s felt by making her suffer. Had they killed the grandmother first, with little to no interaction from the other family member the story and plot would be
I have always considered myself a feminist. I am inspired by women who are independent, fearless, and refuse to be any less than their best. For an extremely long time, these independent women were belittled and were not given the same academic acknowledge that men got, but they nonetheless forged ahead. One of these strong women, was my grandmother.
Ever get the chance to put together your own outfit for the day? Well, I mean literally have you ever had to sew together your outfit? If not, well let me start it off with “WOW!”, grandma's work isn’t as easy as it seems. Not only did i learn how difficult it is to sew, but i had the chance to be able to express my funny side. This week i chose as one of my portfolios a unique project, where i sewed together my outfit. At first, i envisioned it being a joke, since i would never wear it personally, but I saw the fun and good vibes it would bring to the classroom atmosphere. We started off with the simple idea of creating one of the outfits used by one of the boys in the movie, The Sound of Music. First, we had to sketch out a drawing of the outfit to get an
It all started when I was getting ready for bed and my mom got a call from Granny.

I will tell you a tale of a woman of great success. This is a woman that has inspired me to be something great one day and to never give up trying. Though she may be growing into her elderly years she has lived a very challenging, joyful, loving and successful life. She is a woman of great faith and character, she is my grandmother.
At just over five feet tall, she was the kind of woman that you saw on the street and knew to move out of her way. Her demeanor was strict, her hands tied with thick blue veins, crisscrossing over her thin, frail fingers.
