Strategic Planning at Multistate Health Corporation 1. Describe MHC’s strategy in terms of market position. Also, identify the type of external environment MHC is operating in and the degree to which the strategy matches the environment. When MHC had finished their corporate strategic planning process they decided on two things that needed to be worked on in their market strategy; dealing with changing their business environment. First, they focused on technology and second they focused on how to improve basic health care for in house patients as well as outpatients. External environment complexity refers to the number of factors in the environment and the degree to which they are interrelated. For example if Crowne Health care industry starts to changes the insurance procedures and governmental regulations. The state and federal government will start to place a lot of pressure on them to lower their cost, develop new technologies and procedures. Once this had been done their will be long waiting periods for approval from the insurers and the government agencies. However, the government may provide them with subsidies. If MCH matches with the strategic planning they will match with the proactive strategy which focuses on the longer term, and its process is more formalized. 2.
