What am I doing? For my proposal I have chosen my focus to be based around mindfulness strategies and how they can assist in emotional development at a primary school age. In society we are seeing more and more children suffering from mental illness such as anxiety and depression. I believe that by introducing and practicing mindfulness strategies in the classroom environment, students will be able to stabilise and control their emotions which will in turn lead to a sense of ownership for their actions of their body, speech and mind. This will allow students to have a more positive outlook over their education because they will be more focused and settled in the classroom. Why have I chosen this? I decided to cover this topic because it is a personal topic that I am very interested in. Over the last few years I have personally taken up mindfulness strategies such as meditation, to help alleviate stress and have more stability and control over my emotions. Through gaining awareness of these strategies I have also been able to learn about myself on a deeper level. I have built my own identity and gained confidence in aspects of my life where it was otherwise lacking previously. I am now passionate about promoting individuality and diversity because this builds the people we become. Children are only beginning their own journey in this world and believe that happiness can only come from within so I believe it is important to connect with ourselves on an emotional level and
Personal, social and emotional developments (PSED) are acknowledged as one of the starting point of accomplishment in life. PSED is about the whole child, how they are developing now, what they can do to reach their goals but also contribute to their community and how children perceive their identity and ability, understand their relation to the others in the society and apprehend their own and others’ feelings. PSED are a part of children’s development where they will be able to communicate effectively and be able to develop positive behavior among themselves and to others. Mindfulness should be taught in schools because it has been found to have a positive impact on the students ' mental well-being as mentioned above, as well as having positive impacts on a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, on learning and cognition, and on emotional and social skills and wellbeing among adults, according to Katherin (2012). Very little research has been done about mindfulness among the young people as compared to among the adults, with studies carried out so far having some methodological limitations such as limited use of control groups or randomization and small numbers, which result in tentative conclusions. Nevertheless, work is growing rapidly and the results are promising which suggests that mindfulness in schools is well worth doing.
Mindfulness is an incredible skill, it is a practice that is taking the world by storm and helping more and more people live in their present.
According to the article, meditation can ease depression, anxiety and other psychological stressors, all issues that can negatively impact a child’s academic performance. With that said, since a majority of the students at Robert W. Coleman come from high-stress environments, meditation has done wonders. Therefore, the Mindful Meditation Room creates an environment where students are able of decompressing while also enhancing their ability to learn.

The World Health Organisation (2014) defines Mental Health “as a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community” (para. 1). Mental health refers to an individual’s psychological, emotional and social wellbeing; it has the ability affect people’s perceptions, thought, feelings, actions and capacity to respond to change, stresses and challenges within their lives (Headspace, 2013, para. 1). It influences how individuals perceive themselves, their resilience, life decisions and the people around them. Maintaining a stable, healthy and positive mental state is crucial for all individuals throughout their lives in order to avoid developing mental health problems and illnesses. The following essay will address Mental Health and why it is considered one of the challenges facing PDHPE teachers in the 21st Century, it has a major aim of exploring how the subject of PDHPE can address the challenges of the wider community and how classroom teachers can address mental health within the schooling environment.

Let’s talk about the fact that people need to learn how to deal with their emotions, this is not currently taught in our homes or schools…. At least not to the capacity that it should be, most people do not know HOW to process their feelings and THAT needs to change.

Therefore, mindfulness may help a teacher be more responsive to individual students. Teaching is an extremely emotionally-demanding profession. Fortunately, studies show that mindfulness-based interventions may promote resilience and reduce the emotional exhaustion that precedes burnout. This can help teachers promote their own sense of well being and self care, in turn maintaining their care and compassion for their students.
In this essay I am going to show my understanding of a child's early emotional development based on the psychoanalytical view of child development. I will show how emotional skills gained in the early years can be of a significant relevance to later life. I will show my understanding by illustrating it with the clinical material. Although I am focusing on the psychoanalytical approach to child development I believe that it is beneficial to present also some general background knowledge of child development.
When parents and family members repeat the process of saying please and thank you around the house, they learn to know the true meaning of having manners. Children seeing the way others share items and feelings around each other is a big eye opener to them that allows the child to feel their own feelings. When children see that they do something wrong, the parent should always be there to ask them questions for example on what happened?, how this made them feel?, how they think the other person felt when they did the same thing back? Children than begin to think about their own actions might impact the emotions of those around them. When kids interact with one another they get to learn how to relate with eachother that will then help develop social problem-solving skills. Having many practice with peers help them a lot to solve and listen to each other that way they learn to compromise. Although, youngsters who have difficulty showing and or controlling their emotions are more likely to struggle with problems like depression and anger. This gives a child a lower self-esteem and will have a poor self image on themselves due to the fact that everyone around them is either always being negative, any type of bullying, being teased, made fun of, and when they distance themselves from anyone around them.
