I had to write a reaction paper and after my research on several topics, I have chosen to write about motivational strategies in adult basic education. This journal examines motivational strategies that have the potential to increase completion rates for adults trying to complete their general equivalency exam. Most of this article talks about the different studies dealing with motivational factors used to complete their GED. This article also discusses the many reasons as to why people dropped out of high school and the many programs being offered for them to succeed. (Gall, 2013). The GED is better known as general educational development program that measure proficiency in science, mathematics, social studies, reading, for a …show more content…
In the public eyes it just feels like why should we pay for something when the person just doesn’t care about getting there education. I totally understand and I would feel the same way because why fund something when a person really doesn’t want to further his education and better themselves. A lot of non-profit organizations and state organizations are now coming up with motivational techniques to help people compete these programs. In order to get more funding these organization have to show that these motivational programs are working. A lot of time and effort is going into strategies in order to develop motivational techniques for people to complete there GED. What I have learned in this article is that the government does want adults to complete their education but they are having difficulties on completing this task. A lot of people have many reasons as to why they can’t complete there GED but these organizations are offering many incentives to assist them. A lot of these organizations are offering money incentives for example, when a person completes his/her GED they would receive a monetary bonus. A lot of people would ask why you have to pay someone to complete their education when the course is free. A lot of organizations are offering free day care, flexibility in class schedules and individualized instructions geared to that particular student. So
Being a student who cares about my education, I am disgusted that they will fund her to attend college when she does
These people don’t really care about education itself. The other side of the argument ( which I don’t agree with) say that it helps make more money for the school, but why waste that time and effort when you could just have a fundraiser as an alternative.
Through the numerous adversities that affect the population of teachers throughout the country, one of the most thankless tasks is the ability to teach those students who have special needs. The subject of math, which is one of the top priorities in education today, within itself, can be quite difficult for those who have no intellectual or learning disabilities. Researching and the analysis of the effectiveness of tools which are readily available, is vital in breaking through to those students who require special attention. Teachers will seek new and innovative methods, as well as strengthen their requirements and skills to adequately perform their job.
As a special education teacher, I learn to recognize that the way to support the range of diversity in my classroom is to know how to decide which aspects of literacy development to teach. Students must be able to recognize the sounds, or phonology, of language in order to understand how speech is related to print. Children with special needs require assistance in learning to develop phonological awareness and this understanding is essential to learning to read an alphabetic language. Some of the strategies that really work for me are; (1) to model and practice a simple task, such as rhyming, and (2) then complex tasks, such as segmenting and blending. I also use additional strategies to help students manipulate sounds, such as using blocks
at a young age in schools, children are told to “stop using their imagination, all the answers are in the text book”, i was expected to receive grades of a certain merit, and that was final. Ninth grade was a hard year; i didn't process most types motivation. i did what was expected, nothing more and nothing less. i became a mechanized student, which is the key to a proper education until college level learning. confusing, but the level of motivation for a child through the different ranges of high school learning is based on prizes or a reward that
To support a child to the fullest with a learning ability, you must maintain specific teaching strategies that are accommodated and appropriate, therefore providing the child with extra time for reading and writing will help. Provide the child with a variety of letters and numbers, so the child can see what they look like to perform the task, provide the child with correct answer to the problem for demonstration, as a model to gain some understanding of the assignments. Make sure to make accommodations for work assignments, by allowing oral reports, video presentation, cassette tapes, posters etc., to support child learning
Every teacher is a literacy teacher. No matter what content area you teach, you are also a literacy teacher. Teaching is not only what we teach but it is also how we teach, thus when we talk about content it is what we teach and literacy talks about how we teach in every content area. The goal of literacy teaching is to develop reading, writing, and comprehensive skills in our students in every content area. We know that these skills are equally important in every content area in the secondary level.
When teaching a lesson, the first core teaching strategy I use to achieve my results is to engage the students and/or relate it to my students. Students learn much more effectively when they are engaged and interested in the topic they are learning. By creating an activity that gets the students involved and interested they will learn the material more easily and have fun while doing it. I could also relate their lives and interests in my lessons. Students will pay more attention when the topic is related to their lives.
Every year 1.2 million United States students drop out of high school. These students lack the motivation, enthusiasm, willingness, and courage that a student must have in
Teaching and learning strategies used in an actual session and to be delivered during professional practice.
The most important strategy used is communication/education. The type being interpersonal as group sessions are held weekly. Over the course of four weeks, a lot of information will be presented to the participants. This will include documents on the projector along with handouts for individuals to follow. Below is a brief overview of what will be discussed each session.
Eighty three percent of Americans who have taken an Edward Jones survey say they cannot afford the expenses of a college education (Levaux). That leaves only 17% of Americans who say they can afford the expenses of college for themselves or family members. That leaves millions of American who either will be in debt for many years with student loans or millions of Americans who are not reaching their potential. The proportion of new high school graduates now appears to be declining. College education should be free to all Americans who have graduated high school and reached an eligible score on some kind of test that shows they are ready for what is ahead.
Most employments require a higher education. In America, students who need to seek after their goals can't seek after them due to college educational cost charges. College educational cost charges is exceptionally costly in America. Student need to take student loans to pay off the educational cost charges. Also, as a result of student loans, a few students worry and can't accomplish their goals. According to “See 20 Years of Tuition Growth at National Universities”, by Briana Boyington, expenses at private Universities increased 157 percent, and expenses at public Universities increased 194 percent. The claim is costly college expenses. The government must dispense with school expenses since students can't bear to pay for school, they have to take student loans, and because of that, they can't seek after their goals.
At least once a person’s lifetime, everyone think about who they want to become in their future. Most of the things they want to become, requires certain college degree to achieve that goal. Taking that first step of attaining the degree can be time consuming and involves loads of hard work. Some people have more determination and motivation to be successful, while others lack the motivation and can not finish. Not everyone drop out because they lack the determination to finish, instead they run into other obstacle while equipped with the motivation. Those of which are trying to regulate the balance of work and school, unexpected family problems, and financial problems. Unprepared students sign up for school because they think a degree is a “Pass” to the middle class, trying to get one step closer to their goal but drops out of college.
For many, the traditional education system is viewed as vital for the next phase of life. However for a select population, it is not effective and an alternative means for obtaining an education is necessary. Adult education provides people a chance to change their previous views about education and, most importantly, the opportunity to change their path in life. In 1968, Henry McNeil had just turned sixteen and thought that he was prepared for the workforce, so he quit high school. After he dropped out, a job was easily achieved even without a high school diploma because of his hardworking attitude. The ability to adapt to his job gave him employment until he was fifty-eight. However, when the economy took a downward spiral, the companies that had once overlooked the education of the applicant in place of a good mentality, now were not able to take the risk. Insurance that the potential employee was educated weighed in more than the experience gained from prior jobs. Henry McNeil needed a new path for his life and decided to go back to school to achieve it. Every person does not go through the same intellectual stages of life at the same time. Every person is different, so diverse options for education are necessary. Therefore, adult education systems in Caldwell County and the United States of America deserve as much attention as youth education systems.
