Has it ever crossed your mind about, how does main stream media have a negative effect on our society today? I feel that main stream media has a few negative effects on our society like: music videos, fast food advertisement's, and cartoons. I feel that it can be hard to control our craves for the fast and easy food. Although, our society may see that eating fast food is convienent, but at the same time the food is harming our health. The cartoons that are supposed to be educational for children, may not be. Even though cartoons may show alphabets, numbers, shapes, and colors; but the bad attitudes and bad body language's that the characters shows are teaching young minds that it is ok to act negatively. The music videos that plays on T.V, show's a lot of negative body language's, inappropriate dressing, inappropriate language's, singing and rapping negatively down on women, singing and rapping about sex, drugs, and drinking, and saying that it's alright to be that way. I feel that dressing in a way that a person is almost naked, just shows how much respect a person has for themselves. To feel that gaining full attention from the opposite sex, because the attention makes women and men feel good about themselves, shouldn't have to be that way of life. I feel that no matter how a person looks or dress, we as people should appreciate the natural beauty that we were born with.

Throughout the years the use of technology has increased, and expanded. Mass media plays a vital role in society. Mass media can be defined as any means of communication, to an extremely large group of people. Technological advancements have been extremely beneficial for prior generations, the generation we now live in, and will be for the future generations to come. Such as, providing news for the world to hear, entertainment, and much more. Some examples of media would be television, films, newspapers, and the Internet. Unfortunately along with benefits, there are disadvantages concerning gender discrimination, and sexism. Such as, women feelings forced and obligated to stay at home with their children instead of working, and the representation of beauty involving both men and women. Examples of how the media can accomplish this would be through the use of advertisements, movies, magazines, and the radio. The media has an enormous effect on people within society today.
It is no secret that the current generation is obsessed with media. You cannot walk anywhere without seeing teenagers, adults, and even kids using technology and social media. Everywhere you look there are ads to purchase the latest and greatest clothing, technology, or beauty products. Television standards have been lowered by the FCC and shows with explicit content have now taken over television leaving teenagers to idolize a lifestyle that is not to their best interest. But how does this media really affect us? What age is most drawn in and how does it change the outlook of their future? This would fall under evaluation research, I am seeking to find out the impact that media has on the current generation.
When one thinks of media, one tends to relate media to television, news, magazines, newspaper articles, and so on. Many people do not think of media is something that portrays negative effects on young women. However, young women are more susceptible to lower self-esteem resulting in eating disorders or depression more today than ever before. The media projects negative and undermining images of women and one does not have to look very hard to realize this. The media projects images of unrealistic women who only look the way they do because of plastic surgery or airbrushing techniques. The media has much greater effects on young girls than anything else in our culture today. Our society has created an environment so obsessed with
In today’s society, media is present in our lives 24/7 allowing it to have a major influence on our culture in both positive and negative ways.
Radio, television, film, and the other products of media culture provide materials out of which we forge our very identities; our sense of selfhood; our notion of what it means to be male or female; our sense of class, of ethnicity and race, of nationality, of sexuality; and of "us" and "them." These products of media help shape our view of the world and our deepest values: what we consider good or bad, positive or negative, moral or evil. They contribute to educating us how to behave and what to think, feel, believe, fear, and desire -- and what not too. The media teach us how to be men and women, how to dress,
The media plays a very important part in our lives, we see ads that help us know what we want to buy and we get entertainment from television or movies. While the media has many benefits, it also has a very consequential downside. The media puts too much pressure on teenage girls to have perfect bodies by showing them unrealistic examples causing eating disorders.
The media affects our society in several ways and control the direction of society. Television is a source of media that has a strong effect on society today There are both positive and negative impacts the media has on society. The TV news erroneously cover its communities by having most of its stories about police brutality and violence of racial tension. Considering the current influence of media, we need to agree on the fact that media plays an important role in shaping up
The media has a strong impact on us. From advertisement in commercials to radio, the media has been dictating what we should see and hear. The videos we watched in class showed how bad the media sexualize women in commercials and how bad women are treated in the media.
You see things in shows like girls playing with their barbies wearing cute pink outfits while the boys roughhouse in the background playing sports. The media has a very compelling influence on today's society, its shapes our perspective on life without us realizing it, all the while altering our behaviors and attitudes towards social norms. One example is If teenagers see unrealistic ‘thin’ or ‘muscular’ body types often enough, it can have an impact on their body image and dieting behavior. But it doesn't start with the media, of course, it starts with our parents and their own gender orientations. As we grow up, other groups influence
The media and culture that constantly surrounds our society affects the dominant ideologies, beliefs, stereotypes, and my life in a much larger way than I imagined. What I used to see as “normal” or “attractive” was really just a definition set by those in power to reinforce systems of inequality and privilege. I never paid much attention to advertisements, television shows, or novels as a major factor in influencing the way I viewed myself and others. However, this unit has shown me that media and culture subtly perpetuate harmful ideas and beliefs more often than I thought.
Media has long been a way to send specific messages to a selective audience. Magazines, television, movies, ads, and even video games have become a way tell people how they should appear or behave. While not all media influences are negative, most are not positive. Some television shows or movies have programmed gender roles into society’s minds. Also, magazines especially, advertising has distorted impressionable men and women’s body image. These are only two of the many influences the media has on human behavior.
Media usage can be a positive thing, it benefits many businesses as a way to promote their brand and items, as well as creates networks for young entrepreneurs. Media usage however, also has it down falls, from cyber bullying to misrepresenting news to people as well as portraying a false image of what one should look like. Media is a blank canvas for young minds to express themselves, and it is advancing so fast that it is being integrated in our everyday lives. Which ever way you look at it, media can be interpreted in many different ways, as the consumers are all different and have all had many different experiences. I personally try not to let the media surrounding my life affect how I think, it is just hard, because even though I am aware of it I still tend to let it get to me because it is in almost every aspect of my life.
Media influence is the force by which ideas are injected into people’s lives shaping the very culture of society. This influence is masqueraded through hidden media message, resulting in a change in its audience which can be positive or negative, abrupt or gradual, short term or long term. Although mass media’s influential effect can reach a wide ranged audience as an agent of socialization the responsibility to contain what it releases has not been of importance. “The media’s socially significant obligations are formally ignored.” (A.S. Zapesotskii, 2011, p 9). Media messages can be exerted through many different outlets such as TV shows, music, movies, commercials, news, magazines, games which are all gravitated to entertain audiences ultimately offering personal gratification that can sometimes blur the lines between reality and
Like many people my age, media is a huge part of my daily life and is prevalent in all my memories. Media such as photography brings to life memories I otherwise would have forgotten, while the internet allows me to connect with others from across the world and gives me access to resources like Khan Academy to aid me in school. Media also has more negative impacts, such as interfering with family time. Whether its effect is positive or negative, media has influenced my life since the start and this reflection helped me realize that.
Mass media is the methods of communication, including television, radio, magazines, films, internet and newspapers, that have become some of society’s most important agents of socialization. In this paper I will talk about media and its effects on society today, things such as stereotypes the media portrays, the way media illustrates women and what that does to body images of women. I will also be talking about medias effects on teenagers, and sexualization in the media.
