I have taken a number of personality tests and surveys throughout the years for one class or another. I’m usually not very impressed by the results because I rarely feel that they truly capture who I am. When I took the Strengths Finder 2.0 quiz I wasn’t expecting very much. I ended up being pleasantly surprised. I have never had a more accurate synopsis of how I operate and communicate as a person and a leader. My top five strengths according to Strengths Finder 2.0 include: Adaptability, Relator, Intellection, input, and restorative.

In my most recent career I was in property management. I was an assistant property manager for a luxury apartment community for the last eight years. Because our property manager was also our regional manager she had to be away often more days f the week than not I stepped into the role of the property manager. There were 406 apartments in our community and we averaged around 1000 residents at any given time. When you are working at an apartment complex you not only have to manage your employees but quite often it is up to you to manage your residents and their various personalities as well.

Whenever I see someone in a leadership position, I try to learn from observing them and seeing how affective their approach works. Whether or not someone else’s approach and example is positive, I feel that there are lessons I can learn to apply to my own leadership style.
