Leadership involves facets from several different areas of skill. The combination of these traits in an individual allows one to be influential on a group in a positive way. Leadership comes in varying types and styles, no one being more right than the other. Knowing the basics of how to collaborate with and develop your group and how to integrate your style will determine how successful you will be. Throughout SLC, I’ve gained a basis of the common types of leadership, which will lead to better implementation of my own approach towards working with others. Words like morals, ethics, collaboration, relation, and empowerment aren’t just ideas that I know a bit about. They are concrete principles which will help guide my actions in the future. At the beginning of the year, I set out what I believed were my strengths and weaknesses. My strengths included adaptability and forming relationships. The weaknesses I targeted were planning and peer development. All of these were described in different capacities during the semester. Relational leadership is all about working with others in a cohesive bond. Thinking of a network and the interdependent parts parallels the bonds I want to make with other people. I’ve learned it is of the utmost importance to use all the resources of a group and to make sure everyone is involved. Empowering leadership described developing those around you by giving them important tasks and giving them positive feedback. These two forms of leadership
