Stricter gun laws are required to reduce casualties caused by gun violence. People have right to own guns base on the 2nd amendment of the U.S constitution. According to “Background on Gun Control” 91% percent of Americans say that there should be least minor restrictions on gun ownership. However, research shown that children who died after being accidentally shot has increased from 140 in 1996 up to 259 in 2012 every year. In my opinion, the U.S government should increase stricter gun regulations on background check; mental examination and safety trainings to prevent misfiring that cause death and injuries among our friends and family.
First of all, regarding to the 2nd amendment of the U.S. constitution. “People have the right to bear arms.”

For instance, we all familiar with the gun shot in the Aoura movie theater back in 2012. In this tragedy, seventy people were injured and twelve died. The suspect James Eagan Holmes was carrying an M&P Rifle, a tactical shotgun, a handgun and two gas grenades. The federal law stated that once the buyer purchase guns twice or more times in five days, the seller should notify the police to check for any suspicious activity. However, record shows James Eagan bought his weapons in a month, which means he bought each weapon every week without alert the seller. Gun sources from military should be restricted because such weapons with massive destructions can easily bought in the U.S despite of the buyer’s background. James E. Holmes did not have a criminal background before he started his massacre. This could a dead in a heartbeat to the public. Restrictions on guns can also limit the gun sources that are leaked into …show more content…
For example, in Sandy Hook Elementary School (New York). 20 year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult staff members after killing his mother at their Newtown home. Base on a comprehensive examination of Adam Lanza, which found out he was completely untreated for his metal illness in the years before the shooting for psychiatric and physical ailments such as anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. His mother was mentally healthy and stable when she purchases the gun. But mostly importantly, Family should also be examined for any mental disorders before purchasing firearms.
Last of all, children’s safety from gun is very important. Parents cannot guarantee their children could keep away from it. Children are unaware of the danger to them, which they may harm themselves and others. Parents are responsible to keep gun away from children incase of causing serious consequences. For example, a 5-year old boy accidently shot his mother when he found the gun in the kitchen drawer and thought it was a toy. Based on the research data, heart disease takes up 37% of the U.S mortality rate and gun violence take up to
Gun control has been a highly controversial issue in the United States, especially in the wake of so many recent tragic mass shootings. For some people having a gun is a crime, and for others gun control is a right that belongs to us. But the question is, do we need stricter gun control laws? We believe that gun violence has gotten out of control with massive shootings, and we need to do everything to stop it.
In the past decade alone, there have been countless mass shootings in the United States alone resulting in a large body count. Whenever a mass shooting occurs, a debate always follows about how easy it is to obtain firearms, despite background checks that have been enacted to make it difficult to purchase firearms. Background checks are “designed to determine if the prospective buyer fits any criteria that prohibit purchase or possession of firearms, including a prior felony conviction, certain domestic violence misdemeanors, unlawful use of controlled substances or, inter alia, commitment to a mental institution.” (Vernick et al. 98). Background checks are necessary for public safety, but people manage to maneuver their way around background checks when it comes to purchasing a firearm. A background check is not required when purchasing from an unlicensed dealer such as an online store or dealers at a gun show. People prohibited from purchasing guns go through unlicensed dealers because they are not required by law to perform background checks for a firearm purchase. For example, four to ten percent of online shoppers are prohibited by law from possessing firearms, yet they still are looking around in online gun stores (98). Legislation should be passed to
For a nation as advanced as the United States the death of thousands of people each year is an issue affecting and concerning every American. With this problem occurring almost every year, the question of whether or not gun licenses can guarantee the safety of citizens throughout the country has been raised. With the number of deaths created by firearms each year, the need for enforcing stricter gun-control laws has grown increasingly. In addition, with the amount of fear throughout the country, and concern for protection, many people are beginning to buy firearms through simple and easy ways. Throughout America there are numerous ways for citizens to find and purchase weapons, whether it is in a gun store or online, the possibilities are endless.
Under the Gun Control Act of 1968, federal law defined independent sellers as anyone who sold no more than four firearms per year. The 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act lifted that condition and defined private sellers as people who do not rely on gun sales as a way of making their living. Some states have background checks at gun shows for any sort of gun transaction. According to the Law Center for to Prevent Gun Violence, an estimated 40% of all firearms moved in the United States are transferred by unlicensed individuals. Universal background checks should include all private sales of guns. Federal law does not do enough to protect the citizens because about 96.1% of prisoners purchased a gun through an unlicensed private seller. When private sellers do not run background checks, dangerous people can easily buy a
Gun control is among the most debated topics this election year. It not only attracts the attention of politicians but also scholars and common people because of its close relationship with daily life. Some advocates for gun rights argue that an individual’s gun right is inviolable, a civic liberty secured by the Constitution. By further extending the right to own guns, people will better protect themselves and create a safer society. However, because the Constitution doesn’t give people the right to possess firearms under all circumstances, and gun control will protect people’s natural rights, the government should impose stricter gun control laws.
A few weeks ago, on October 1st, 2015, eight students and a professor were shot and killed by 26 year old Christopher Harper-Mercer in a mass shooting at Umpqua Community College. The shooter also shot and killed himself. The world has become a much different place than it was a hundred years ago. Technology has been increasing faster than at any other time on this planet. But with this change, it seems as if the sanity of people is at an all-time low. People now react quicker to hard times or a bad situation. The creation of the internet, especially with social media, is the perfect tool for humiliating people more than was ever possible before. This humiliation has caused an increase in violence, especially in gun violence. Something
The United States faces many problems today, with one of the most concerning being gun control. It has affected the Nation in a tremendous way with innocent people dying. Homicide rates in America are alarming and more frequent than ever. In my opinion, the reasons why we should be more strict on gun control is because they have the ability to create chaos in general, which is the result of them being in the possession of wrong people like children and criminals.
We should all be required to have a medical check in case of any mental disorders and then you should apply for your firearms certificate. With this methode we would be 99% certain, that the average Joe next door isn’t going to commit a mass shooting with his newly acquired semi-automatic rifle.
Gun control has been the top subject matter “since last December” (Mental). It is up to the Congress, the Senate, and the Legislature to do this so everything in the United States will be all right. The United States can be a better place if this what’s to happen latter on in the years to come. Not only stronger laws but better background checks “for the Federal Bureau” people. There are people in the United States and across the world who favor and oppose to this situation (“Gun Control Laws”). Per, the chart sixty-seven percent of people favor and thirty-two percent of people oppose to the background checks. Another thing is that two percent of people have no opinion about this matter (“Gun Control Laws”). Based upon an estimate there are
To make America safer we need to be stricter on gun control laws. Although some people prefer less strict, because they feel like it limits their rights. Legislators need to update the background check system, enforce mandatory courses and safety training.
Mental illness is an issue blamed for gun violence. In most cases, mass shooters have mental illness, which may have been managed before being shot. Mental health treatment, normally is accessible to individuals with wealth (Henderson 4). Therefore, many factors are leading people or individuals too powerless in a money-driven society.
In the past few years, mass shootings have been occurring more frequently. From that movie theatre a few years back, to the church shooting earlier this year, mass shootings are starting to become a little bit too common. One would think that this fact would lead to better gun ownership laws, but it has not affected them all that much. Too many Americans have rioted when the mere whisper of stricter laws escapes the mouths of any of their fellow people. Stricter laws on the ownership and usage of firearms should be considered, for it would reduce mass shootings, less violent crimes would be committed, and more lives would be saved from the potential danger.
Gun Control Laws limit the protection of citizens. Having the right to carry guns and have ownership, gives people a sense of safety. Being armed also prevents mass shootings and terrorist attacks.
Guns are extremely dangerous weapons. They can cause massive destruction, harm and even death. They can be used to protect and defend or even threaten and harm. Every or any way you look at it, guns are a dangerous and powerful tool. I believe that gun restrictions should be abolished if they want to secure the safety of the people. “The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capita number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12% of women)” (Hawthorn 1).
On Thursday, May 9th, a two-year old boy was found dead after shooting himself in the head. The boy had found his father’s handgun while the father himself was occupied with other things; his son was just a few feet away. This little boy is not the first kid to shoot himself. Accidents like this are just one of the reasons to why guns should be restricted in the United States. Gun access has become very easy for people and that has caused many problems.
