Stricter Gun Laws

In 2000, nearly 30,000 people died due to uncontrollable gun violence, even though the US has many gun laws. Gun control is now one of the main political issues because of all the shootings in the past decade. There have been many studies taken on gun control, which shows more gun-control decreases deaths with a gun involved.

Throughout the past several decades gun control has been put under scrutiny by the media and the general public. While the first major piece of gun control legislation was passed in 1911 in New York, it was not until the 1960’s that the gun control movement was truly galvanized(“Gun Control Reform”).This occurred because of a series of major political assassinations that led to the Gun Control Act being signed into law in 1968(“Gun Control Reform”). To this day the gun control movement lives on and many Americans believe that harsher gun control laws should be put into effect. Stricter gun laws are required to reduce casualties caused by gun violence. People have right to own guns base on the 2nd amendment of the U.S constitution. According to “Background on Gun Control” 91% percent of Americans say that there should be least minor restrictions on gun ownership. However, research shown that children who died after being accidentally shot has increased from 140 in 1996 up to 259 in 2012 every year. In my opinion, the U.S government should increase stricter gun regulations on background check; mental examination and safety trainings to prevent misfiring that cause death and injuries among our friends and family.

Stronger gun control laws should be enacted. Firstly, the murder rate in America will decrease. Secondly, there wouldn’t be so many gun attacks and suicides. The article “American deaths in terrorism vs. gun violence in one graph” by Julia Jones and Eve Bower shows how dangerous guns are now and how they are used for attacks rather than protection.

For a nation as advanced as the United States the death of thousands of people each year is an issue affecting and concerning every American. With this problem occurring almost every year, the question of whether or not gun licenses can guarantee the safety of citizens throughout the country has been raised. With the number of deaths created by firearms each year, the need for enforcing stricter gun-control laws has grown increasingly. In addition, with the amount of fear throughout the country, and concern for protection, many people are beginning to buy firearms through simple and easy ways. Throughout America there are numerous ways for citizens to find and purchase weapons, whether it is in a gun store or online, the possibilities are endless.

Gun-control has been a controversy between Americans over the years and it has gotten to a point where it seems to divide Americans severely. It has been a controversy on whether or not the U.S. should establish tougher gun-control laws rather than preserve our current gun laws. The U.S. should establish tougher gun-control laws in order to put a stop to gun violence.

Across the United States there have been many shootings and attacks. The most recent being in San Bernardino California where 14 innocent lives were taken. Most of these shootings are in schools, state buildings, movie theatres etc. Every public mass shooting in the USA since 1950 has taken place where citizens are banned from carrying guns. There are ways to end these people going on killing sprees once and for all. Many law abiding citizens are experienced and comfortable with a firearm. Imagine these people being able to take their concealed weapons into places that are now “no gun zones”. This would act as a deterrent against the people who go on killing sprees. The number of people that are died due to the lack of gun laws in the USA In 2016. This is the number from January to August alone. They numbers are made up of mothers, Fathers, daughters, sons, role models… the list could go on. Not all are innocent, but I can assure you that if there were stricter gun laws in the US that number would be significantly lower.

The United States is a country whose Founding Father’s wishes were to establish a land where freedoms are granted and to be not taken away from anyone. Citizens of the United States are free to enjoy these freedoms due to the Amendments and rights of the people. An example of one of the freedoms of people is you can legally purchase and own your very own firearms. This act is protected by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution written back in the year and date December 15, 1791. Now people who own firearms or any other type of gun do it for a variety of reasons such as: to hunt or for use of sport, to demonstrate or boost, and to defend themselves against anyone or anything that may severely want to harm the individual.

In the past few years, mass shootings have been occurring more frequently. From that movie theatre a few years back, to the church shooting earlier this year, mass shootings are starting to become a little bit too common. One would think that this fact would lead to better gun ownership laws, but it has not affected them all that much. Too many Americans have rioted when the mere whisper of stricter laws escapes the mouths of any of their fellow people. Stricter laws on the ownership and usage of firearms should be considered, for it would reduce mass shootings, less violent crimes would be committed, and more lives would be saved from the potential danger.

The rule of law, gun control legislation, and public administration are intertwined on every level. The promulgation of every constitutional right afforded by the second amendment is being dissected following the recent tragedies in Nevada and Texas. Administrative law is the mechanism that controls governmental power given to administrative branches and agencies. Following the passage of the Administrative Procedure Act, the definition of “administrative law began a new journey. The shift from “public law” to the new state administrative procedure gives legitimacy and authority to state action (p. 90, Beckett, 2010). It is important to note that the three types of rules that govern the behavior of administrators, substantive regulations, interpretive rules, and procedural rules are all under current scrutiny as related to the issue of gun control legislation and public safety (p. 91, Beckett, 2010).

It’s cool to have it or not but often forgot to talk about common grounds on why there should not be strict laws on guns. For several decades, anytime there is a mass shooting, robbery and assignations, the issue of strict gun laws or gun control comes into question and people across the aisle and residents always rally together to see what could be done to reduce murder rate. People who are affected or lose their loved ones cry day in day out to see what could be done to gun violence but it's hard to pass a strict law on guns because huge amount of guns owned by Americans is very difficult to take away just like that. The United Sates has one of the highest rates of gun related violence. The major factors on gun violence are the powerful types of guns expressly designed for killing people and the lack of preventing all gun violence. America talks about death by gun violence. Gun control can come from all types of things in the world. 240,000 guns are given to minors without parents even knowing that they have one. The gun owners can sell a gun without having a background check and will not get in trouble for it. According to Gutierrez, “Anybody will sell you a gun…I mean no matter what, if you want a gun and you show them the money, and tell them you want to buy it, he’s going to definitely sell it to you” (3). and has one of the lowest homicide rates (Masters). Along with Norway, Finland, Germany, and France have high ownership rates but have low crime rates. In contrast with these countries, Luxembourg has a complete ban on handguns but has nine times the crime rate. The Harvard study concluded that crime rates are directly related to “social, economic, and cultural factors.” Furthermore, they came to the conclusion that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Russia enforces considerably strict gun control laws, but with these laws, Russia has four times the crime rate of the United States. Guns can take out somebody’s life in an instant, now think for a minute. What if you just lost one of your closest family members to a gun? Gun control laws need to be a lot more strict because the U.S. alone loses over 30,000 people a year due to gun related deaths.That’s over 87 people going down every day (Watkins). People are against strict gun laws, all they want is a weapon to protect themselves from other people with guns. If the laws are more strict though, you wouldn’t need the gun because there would be no guns allowed (Harrison). Gun laws need to be more strict so less gun related crimes happen, people are safe, and it makes it a lot harder for people to get guns.
