Ischemia- local decrease in blood supply Infarction- death & deterioration of tissue resulting from lack of blood supply.
When it comes to finding the time to handle everything involved in work, family and everything else, sometimes their don 't seem to be enough hours in our day. This becomes more difficult when you find yourself lacking the energy you need to get through each day. Coffee is a cheap fix that many of us use to get up and going, but there are additional steps we can take to ensure we have the physical and mental energy we need to ensure we don 't neglect any important aspect of our lives.
. Define the term collateral blood flow, and describe how this and other factors affect the development of stroke.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015) every year there are 800,000 individuals who have strokes. There are 610,000 first time cases and 185,000 recurring stroke individuals. It is important for caregivers to note that the increased risk of another stroke is higher after the first (CDC, 2015). It is also critical for the caregiver to ask questions of the physician, such as what aspects physiologically and emotionally have been affected and treatments
A stroke occurs when there is a disruption of blood flow within the brain. A stroke can occur in two ways, one is a blood clot forming which can block a vessel in the brain causing an ischemic stroke. Another way is having a leakage or burst in a blood vessel inside the brain, causing a brain bleed (hemorrhagic stroke). The population stroke most often affects are the African American, Alaska Native, and American Indian populations. Individuals with specific risk factors may also be at a greater risk of getting a stroke. These risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, smoking, and family history. There is no specific age of onset for stroke, but the risk of a stroke occurring does increase as an individual gets older.
All strokes are caused by an obstruction of blood getting to the brain. The ischemic stroke is caused by a blot clot similar to what happens during a heart attack where blood can’t get through because of plaque buildup that blocks the artery. Hemorrhagic stroke are instead of a blockage a blood vessel bursts and can be caused by a head injury that cause a brain bleed. Transient ischemic strokes are “mini” strokes that happen when there is a blockage but the blood flow is restored after short period of
Cerebrovascular disease is “any abnormality of the brain caused by a pathologic process in the blood vessels.” (McCance, 2015) Aneurysms and strokes or cerebrovascular accidents encompass this category. There are three categories of strokes: ischemic (thrombotic or embolic), global hypoperfusion, and intracerebral hemorrhage. Thrombotic strokes are caused by arterial occlusions from blood clots formed in the arteries supplying the brain or in the intracranial vessels (McCance, 2015). The development of blood clots or thrombi in the venous channels of the brain is called cerebral thrombosis. Cerebral thrombosis is mostly ascribed to atherosclerosis and inflammatory disease processes that damage arterial walls. Inadequate cerebral perfusion creates damage in the arterial walls where platelets and fibrin attach to forming a thrombus. “Portions of the clot detach and travel up the vessel to distant sites where occlusion occurs, producing a stroke syndrome.” (McCance, 2015) An embolic stroke occurs when a fragment that breaks from a thrombus outside of the brain occludes a cranial artery, usually the middle cerebral artery.
In this paper will we discuss and learn more about cerebral vascular accidents, or what is more commonly referred to as a stroke. We will focus on the diagnostic testing that is performed in order to formally diagnose a stroke, the typical prognosis for someone who has suffered from a stroke, along with treatments, including complementary and alternative medicine treatment that may also help benefit the patient. The patient in particular is a Jan, 72 year-old woman who recently suffered a stroke and as a result suffered damage to the right side of her body and is now having difficulty speaking. We will look into how she may be able to take care of herself and her three cats now that this has happened, as she is a widow and has no children.

Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) [9] - Considering some of the primary causes of cerebrovascular accident [pg 104]; do you believe recreation therapy is more effective as a preventative approach, or in treatment of symptoms?
Cerebral stroke, the second leading cause of death, each year affects nearly 15 million people above the age of 60 years, worldwide, is manifested through several mechanisms such as excitotoxicity, over production of free radicals, inflammation and apoptosis that cause severe brain damage and may ultimately lead to death. Since currently available stroke therapies are not much effective; therefore, it is an urgent need to test and develop some novel and more effective treatment strategies for the efficient management of cerebral stroke. Fortunately, recent reports showed that plant-derived flavonoids have potential neuroprotective actions against an array of neurodegenerative diseases including the stroke. For example, the standardized extracts
A stroke happens when the blood supply to the brain is either interrupted, blocked or a blood vessel in the brain ruptures. These blockages are often caused by blood clots, which can form in the arteries connecting to the brain. When this happens, there is an insufficient amount of oxygen and nutrients going to the brain, and this causes the brain cells to die. It also is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States (U.S) today. There are three forms of stroke: ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes, and transient ischemic attacks. These are also called mini-strokes.
Stroke is a serious medical condition. It is life threatening as it is connected to the brain. Once the blood supply of the brain is cut to the part of the body then that particular part will have weakness. Just like our organs the brain also needs oxygen supply to work. If the blood is restricted, then the blood cells will start to die. The brain needs nutrition to work and blood is one way the brain can receive the nutrition it needs to function. A stroke is basically an attack on the brain and the people suffering from stroke can have a disability, brain injury and possibly death. When a person has a stroke this could only be for two reasons. One of the first causes for the stroke could be because of blood clots and this will stop blood
Love is a seed you have to let grow. From a very young age I learned many different types of love. The love of a favorite food, the love of a favorite color, and even the love of a certain smell was embedded into my head. One particular love that I never want to forget is the love of my uncle Moses. My uncle Moses, had the greatest love that anyone would ever want to feel. He applied his love to the people in Jamaica, where he lived for 77 years before he passed from a stroke.I have experienced a lot of things in my life, and I have seen things that most people don’t even want to admit are reality, but when my uncle Moses passed, it really took a toll on me. I just remembered going home one night and my mother was sitting in the kitchen with
The human brain is small in size but is a major vital organ in the human body, it has many different functions that allows us to be who we are and maintain life. Although, the brain is such an important organ in the human body it is a lot like a ticking time bomb. When trauma, or even blood vessel damage occurs it is immediately very dangerous and life threatening. The human brain constantly needs blood supply, blood that flows through the brain carries nutrients as well as oxygen, when there is shortage or blockage of the blood vessels that leads to a stroke.
