Juvenile Delinquency has become a norm and a status code that every boy or girl in New York at a certain stage want to be part of it. Much research done shows that Juvenile Delinquency is more concentrated in areas where the inhabitants are low class or underclass. The major sociological theory that we are going to consider under this theme is Structural Functionalism, Symbolic Interactionism and conflict theory.

Structural Functionalism in regards of juvenile delinquency is the final breakdown in social organization that breakdown conformity. That is when the entire neighborhood are seen as being socially disorganized as lacking proper education and discipline.In this community there are no police control and it takes time for the police to intervene when they receive an emergency call for an immediate intervention that could prevent crime and delinquency. There are other theories like control theory where children have been lacking control from early stages of their lives and when they get to certain stage it become very difficult to control them and differential opportunity which also explain the need that the underclass are struggle to move ahead to the next stage in life. This has less to do with values but rather the way in which social meaning and definitions can help to produce delinquency behavior. The assumption here is the meaning and definition and symbolic variation affect behavior. The main thing is how the adolescents acquire this meanings and definitions from their peers. Edwin Sutherland in his concept of differential association referred not only association among people but rather exchange of ideas , He further said that people violate law when they are able to defend such behavior acceptable. When individuals are convinced that a deviance is good, they tried to force them onto other people.
