You Can’t be President if You Don’t Run Last year, I was just a regular high school student. I worked hard, got good grades, tried to get a reasonable amount of sleep, all while attempting to maintain a social life. But, I didn’t have much to say when someone asked me, “what else do you do?” I guess I never really thought of it. My only goal was to get good grades. Then one day, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go to a student council meeting with her, and I thought, why not? To be completely honest, I thought that I’d just go to a meeting or two here and there, just get bored with it after a while, and eventually stop showing up. I expected myself to not like it and go back to my regular, basic duties as a good student within a month. But, I was pleasantly surprised by how wrong I was. …show more content…

I started going to every meeting that we had, and I actually looked forward to helping plan everything that we could do to make the school a better place. I enjoyed working behind-the-scenes of all of the events that I’ve been to before but never had much control over. My title was Junior Class Representative, and although it was the lowest title for the Junior class, I was proud of it. Soon enough, I was doing as much as I possibly could to help out at every meeting and event we hosted. Any time our director would ask for a volunteer to do something, especially something no one else wanted to do, I tried to make sure that my hand was the first one up. I took pride in even the smallest tasks assigned to me. At the end of the year, it was time to decide if we wanted to come back for the next year and if so, what position we wanted to run for. I was certain that I was going to be coming back for the next year. I also wanted to move up in ranking, so that I could help out even more (and, I’m not gonna lie, the ‘bragging rights’ that came with a higher position sounded pretty great to me). So, I decided to run for Senior Class
