When I was a child, all I wanted to do was run freely around my neighborhood. Thankfully, I was able to, but not everyone has that opportunity. My career goals have become a little more ambitious – my passion is in community design, wellbeing and physical activity policies, and my goal is to develop healthy, active solutions for all individuals in our community. I am writing this letter in application for the Student Internship with Children’s Respite Care Center (CRCC) to assist the Development and Marketing Department. I have completed 21 credits in the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I am keen to gain real-world experience in the nonprofit environment. With a wide-ranging background in academic
After completing my child life internship experience at Norton Healthcare, which was comprehensive, unique, and diverse, I have been able to take a step back and see which rotations and which hospital environment I preferred and which I fit into best. I believe that it is important that a child life specialist is aware of where they best fit in the hospital environment based on his or her training, background, and personality. This can aid in eliminating burnout and turnover rates, because if a child life specialist is in the correct area they will be less likely to leave their current placement or switch units. However, I realize that with the current employment opportunities available in the field of child life that finding your preferred
The goal of the internship was to complete a 150 hours and provide a weekly summary of activities. In order to get the internship I had to do a phone screening with Mary Doe. She is the administrative assistant to Commander John Doe. Who is the Assistant Associate Director of Facility Support and also the internship supervisor for the SIU Health Care Management students at FHCC. I meet with CDR John Doe for a brief interview. We went over my goals and what I hope to gain by interning at FHCC. I felt interning at FHCC would be a natural transition because CDR Wallis has a background in Healthcare Administration.
What Life Is Really Like in the Colonies What do you think life was like in the colonies back in the 1700’s? Well, it is definitely was not just a walk in the park like some rumors say. Living in the early colonies required hard work and determination to stay alive.
I am a single mother of two beautiful children--a young adult son and soon to be teen daughter. While both have different personalities, they still have some things in common, they are my pride and joy. Currently, I am a senior here at Liberty University, seeking an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Christian Counseling, with a degree completion in early 2018. Subsequently, continuing my graduate cognate in Psychology, Health and Wellness. My educational pursuit began when I was seeking to grow my former preschool center into a larger professional entity, but business growth plans were put to a complete halt, upon learning that I needed other educational credentials. Consequently, for this PSYC-499 internship course, I will be working at
With this degree, I expect to gain a better sense of policy with nonprofit management, and to concentrate on what it takes to build effective, multi-cultural organizations, as well as what it takes to run them. My goal is to open and manage community centers for inner-city youths. This is important to me because there are students who excel academically, but live in unsupportive and poverty-stricken neighborhoods. Through my experiences working with inner-city adolescents, I have met students distracted and disconnected from their academics because of the lack of resources within urban communities. It is important to understand time as an asset; students spend one-third of their day in school, while using the other two-thirds ineffectively outside of school. My community centers will offer a space where students can find refuge and a safe environment to seek guidance. Through recreational and after-school programs, along with parental and family support, I intend to give students the life tools necessary to succeed. While creating my community center, I will be able to show my talents and knowledge to the best of my ability while providing help to youths and families. The leadership development and supplementary training in budgeting, accounting, principles of management, and policy practice will help me conceive and carry out future solutions. Most importantly, I will make the centers accessible and affordable for
In high school, I served on the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation’s Youth Council. As a member, I was responsible along with 24 other high schoolers to allocate $80,000 in grant money each year. This council was completely student-run with only one adult advisor, so we were forced to efficiently collaborate and manage diverse opinions. Not only did I learn a great deal about the nonprofit world, but I also became better at critically evaluating proposals and clearly expressing my opinion to others. In addition, I was recently hired as an Associate Consultant for SOURCE, CMC’s student-run nonprofit consulting group. Although I have only been on SOURCE for a short period of time, I have already improved my interpersonal skills while interacting with our client and have grown more comfortable with working on independent and collaborative projects. More than anything, I will a bring a passion for nonprofits to the Kravis Prize Council. I am genuinely excited to bring innovative ideas to the council and to improve the Kravis Prize in any way that I
It is with sincere interest that I am writing to apply for the summer internship position as Human Resources with TCHC as advertised through an email from receiving the TCHC Diversity Scholarship. I know my studies in Biomedical Science has no direct relevance to this job position; however, I been a resident of a TCHC in the Regent Park Community for the past 18 years. I believe I can make a positive impact in my community, as shown through my many volunteer experiences that would help me excel in this position.
I would love to continue working in an environment that provides resources to families who need affordable housing. Coming from a low-income family and having immigrant parents has made me a woman who appreciates the little things and is passionate about justice. After this internship ends, my goal is to utilize the training and experience I acquired to continue advocating for those who feel that their voice isn’t heard and creating justice for these families. Being who I am and knowing where I come from, I wish to make a change in the lives of those who come from low-income families, and ethnically diverse communities. The training and experience with the Rural West Internship Program will empower a woman who is determined to help her people, to help a community that is desperately in need, and a community that struggles everyday not knowing where they will live or how they will pay rent. I believe that every family deserves to have a roof over their head, and that no child should worry about where they will sleep or if they will even go to school the next day. I especially want to make a difference in low income families who come from diverse backgrounds and who have will little opportunities to succeed because of the injustices in today’s
The cultural model used to describe the print advertisement as shown in the appendix is the cultural deficit model. Is it the assumption of poor performance as well as widespread underachievement is recognized by the student's socioeconomic standing as well as domestic origin. In theory the cultural deficit model targets students of color for the reason that they are "sterotypically" seen as underachieving students because of their lack of exposure to cultural models that are more usually linked with school achievement. In the end, the theorists of these models regarded cultures and environments external of the typical Euro-American, as mediocre (Park, 2005). These views catered to highly ethnocentric viewpoints.
It is pleasing to know that you currently have direct experience working with social change policy and that you are making a difference within your community. In most major cities, the homeless are often overlooked yet this stigmatized group is vulnerable for many reasons (e.g., health related issues, substance dependence, etc.). Nevertheless, policy allows one to take social and political action against social conditions that impact the lives of clients. Great
four years ago, in the hope that my father’s health would improve, I encountered many obstacles that have motivated me to help my community. My family and I have felt the sting of discrimination because of our skin color, culture, and Mexican accent. However, this has only emboldened me to reach for my dreams and aspirations and work towards a higher-level education to help and support those who also face difficult obstacles in order to reach their goals. When I began to volunteer with different organizations and discovered the tremendous need of healthcare, education, food, and hygiene supplies that exists, I learned that one must help their own community for all to succeed and obtain what they deserve. I observed that there is not just crucial need for better health care and nutrition in our state, but a tremendous need for homeless shelters and food banks that can support low-income families. Even though I was not born in this city, Albuquerque has become my community and my home and I have become attached to the people who day by day work exceedingly hard to give the best to their families. Since little, my dream has always consisted of attending college to become a health care provider to help those people who are struggling with health issues, such as my father. I want to motivate other students to believe in their potential and reach their goals despite the economic and social barriers one may face. For me this is the power of a higher-lever education: improve our quality of life and the one of those around
A philosopher is a person who is has learned philosophy and in words by definition I am a philosopher. I started this course not knowing what I would be learning and the simple title of the course was intimidating. I thought, am I going to be capable of understanding what great philosophers once debated? Religion is a huge issue I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to overcome since a lot of philosophers didn’t believe in God. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to separate my idea of life and viewing it as an intellectual philosopher. I thought that every idea wouldn’t have proof and that the only proof we had was the bible. The bible was the only piece of proof that I knew and that everything else wouldn’t be sufficient enough to make me change
I was raised with the fundamental notion of service to mankind, I have always been interested in society’s injustices and problems, and being a catalyst for change. This has brought me to applying to the University of Central Florida’s Master of Nonprofit Management program within the School of Public Administration. I am currently a practitioner in Social Work and serve as the Director of Social Services at the Orlando Area Command of The Salvation Army. I have received my bachelors and master’s degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, FL.
I have been volunteering as a Child-Youth-Family (CYF) volunteer at the Brampton YMCA since I was in Grade 8. I have worked directly alongside supervisors and other volunteers to bring positive change to the children that frequent the YMCA in a diverse range of programs, such as Child/Youth Multisport, Child/Youth Jungle Gym, Childminding, and Family Badminton. I have also led programs individually and with a partner on the YMCA’s National Healthy Kids Week program, and various YMCA community outreach programs, such as dance recitals and bake sales. These are roles in which I showcase my ability to lead programs and lead children effectively
“ Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile” (Albert Einstein). To achieve fulfillment in life its important to help others, regardless of how small the act a difference can be made. One of the best feelings in life is bringing a smile to someone’s face or joy to their heart when little is evident. Not everyone is dealt an even card when they come into this world and their situation growing up can be much more difficult than others who are less fortunate. The youth deserve to be careered for no matter what, because each one of them is our future. I chose to volunteer time at the Poughkeepsie children’s home because the biggest problems that our country faces can be righted through education and care for future generations so they don’t
