The Vietnam War began in 1945 because the United States was against communism and did not want it spreading to South East Asia. Many citizens were against going to war and thought we had no part, or that we were getting involved for no reason. The Vietnam War caused people to rebel, from different opinions and made them feel the need to try and find different ways to be happy during this brutal time period.
During the Vietnam War people began to rebel, Students played a huge role in antiwar movements, that is why most movements started out of college campuses and then continued to expand. The Vietnam War started because the United States was not a fan of communism and wanted to help end it. Many people disagreed with the president and congress's choice of going to war, citizens of the United States would form antiwar groups like: Another Mother of Peace, Peace and Freedom Party, Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee, Vietnam Veterans Against War. These groups made comments like “This is not out war” many people believed we had no place to even be in the Vietnam War. “There was no
The Vietnam war has been referred to by many names, one of the longer ones was 'the cornerstone of the free world southeast Asia'. It was called that by John F. Kennedy. He was talking about Vietnam being and essential country in a non-communist world. He believed that if Vietnam became a communist country, all of the surrounding countries would also become communists. This is the main reason America was involved in the Vietnam war. Another reason was that America wanted to spread their “political ideas around the globe”. They wanted to do this so that their anti-communism stance was clear. The public also wanted to keep communism from spreading. To soldiers, the war was like a crusade, a great journey to purge the communists from Vietnam.
The Vietnam War began amidst the Cold War, driven in part by the United States' efforts to combat communism. After World War II, Vietnam was temporarily divided into a communist North and an anti-communist South. The Geneva Accords aimed to reunify Vietnam, but the United States opposed this, fearing a communist victory. As the communist revolt intensified in the South, the United States decided to escalate its military involvement.
The Vietnam War was a very long and messy war that started in 1954 and ended in 1975, although the United States joined in 1965. The united states projected the idea of stopping a Communist takeover of Vietnam as their main reason for joining the war. Soldiers fighting in the war were about two thirds volunteer and the rest were selected through the draft. This sparked outrage in many military aged men and was the beginning of the defiance towards the war. (thevietnamwar.info) With so many people fighting the war it was really supported overall by Americans at the start of the war. The Vietnam War affected the relationship between Americans and the government in many ways, some people it strengthened the idea of the government, and many people who were against the war rebelled in many ways to test the governments powers such as skipping the draft, protesting, or anti-war marches.
The Vietnam war was a war to stop the spread of Communism. America was not going to let communist spread anymore in fear it would take over the world, and they were ready to do whatever they had to do to make sure it did not spread. America had drafted soldiers to fight the long lasting war, and eventually people got tired of loosing Americans to a war they did not really care about and started to protest in hopes to end it. Overall people joined the protest, because America was not with any of their actions and lost the hearts and minds of Americans.
The Vietnam war was originally fought between North and South Vietnam. They were in war because the north was communist, and the south was not. America joined the war to make sure communism did not spread across the world. In order to get America involved in the war the government needed to organize a draft, when a man's number was called in the draft the men were shipped off to Vietnam. Even after that Vietnam soldiers were treated unfairly when they returned home from the war.
The Vietnam War is a war that took place in Vietnam. The war was a particularly interesting war because it resulted in a previous unheard of result: the United States of America outright losing a war. This war was a war that was symbolic of one between democracy (good) and communism (bad). Vietnam was and still is a country that is run through communist rule. At the time, there was a democratic minority and this group was funded by other countries that were currently democratic. The United States in particular saw this as an opportunity to help Vietnam become a more democratic state.
A lot of Americans believed that we were involved in the Vietnam War for no reason and the war itself would not accomplish anything for the U.S. and it would not affect us. Since Vietnam never attacked or hurt the U.S. in any way naturally, Americans did not think their people had a reason to get involved with this war. Americans did not think it was fair that our troops were being sent to Vietnam to die for no reason. This is the U.S. started to draft many men. Most of the people drafted in the U.S. came from low class, poor, or working class families. They had no say in the matter, which was very unfair and oppressive. This was another major reason as to why this war was so unpopular. Men who didn’t want anything to do with the war, if drafted, had to fight. Also, many Americas started to challenge the governments action and thought process as to why they would get involved in a democratic war to free the South Vietnamese people from the North Vietnamese Communist aggression. This is when the questions and protests started to
The Vietnam War was started when North Vietnam and the Viet Cong started attacking South Vietnam. They did this to unite Vietnam under communist rule. Because North Vietnam did this, South Vietnam asked for help from the US and other allies. When we joined the war the Russians and Chinese joined in also. They were communist countries helping North Vietnam. Jungly terrain made it hard to move supplies and soldiers, so we bombed Vietnam with pesticides. The pesticide , Agent Orange, worked, but it also affected the civilians and killed many of them. Birth defects were passed down through the survivors and killed many more.
It is highly debatable for what the reasons were for the Vietnam War beginning but for the most part the reason was to stop the spread of communism. Communism was on the rise and
The fight in Vietnam started before any American soldier set foot in Vietnam. The United States disagreement with communism goes back to the Cold War. The US feared that the Soviet Union would spread to other countries like Cuba, Korea, and Vietnam. Eventually, the Soviet Union did spread communism to other nearby countries one of which being northern Vietnam. Communism was slowly becoming popular in northern Vietnam and started to move more south. Communism kept heading south
First and foremost, the Vietnam War was a conflict between the communist regime of the north and southern allies. People viewed the war as a continuation of the First Indochina war against France; while the involvement in the war as a way to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam. The purpose of the war was to reunify Vietnam and by doing that North Vietnamese government against the Viet. Congress had to fight bringing something that was once broken back together again. Fear that the public would not forgive them for losing Vietnam made it impossible for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson to remove the United States from an increasingly untenable situation. By 1968, the number of U.S. troops in Vietnam exceeded half a million and the conduct
To start, the war began because of the Gulf of Tonkin conflict and resolution, which involved a lie convincing the public that the Northern Vietnamese attacked us first even though the opposite occurred (Tucker). This lie that started the war caused it to be questioned from the beginning. The country also had events like the Civil Rights Movement which was happening and actively trying to cause social reform. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, said that because of the start of the Vietnam war, there may be no chance for the government to reconsider programs it had halted in order to focus on the war effort ("Profile: Legacy of anti-Vietnam War protests"). This entire group of people wanted to expand their freedoms and rights, but were abruptly pushed aside by the government. This caused them to protest even louder, not just for their rights, but also against the war that was clearly getting in the way of their rights. Another reason that persuaded a large number of people to protest the war was the draft. The draft was reinstated when the United State’s military began to reach the bottom of the barrel on volunteer soldiers to fight the gruesome war because many people weren’t on board with the overall goal of the war or had other reasons to not join the fight. The draft was used to force randomly selected citizens to join the military whether they
First off The Vietnam War was a war on Communism that stemmed from a confrontation between north and south Korea had risen, North Korea being against Communism while South Korea being pro Communism. This would spark concern within the leaders of America because they had no desire to see communism spread throughout the planet. This fear would give us a nudge to join the fight in 1954 under president Dwight D. Eisenhower. This war would go on for another thirteen years making it “the longest war in United States History.”
The Vietnam War started on the first day of November in 1955. The main opponents were the United States and South Vietnam against North Vietnam and the Vietcong. The Americans wanted to contain communism in fear of it spreading to other countries while the North Vietnamese wanted to unite both parts of Vietnam. At first, the Americans only trained South Vietnamese troops to do all of the fighting while the North Vietnamese employed the Vietcong to help their military take over South Vietnam. Despite having a successful military campaign, the United States lost the Vietnam War politically.
The Vietnam War started as the North Vietnamese government and the Việt Cộng were fighting to reunify Vietnam. North Vietnamese will not be able to give up the unity of Vietnam, until the whole Vietnam comes to one, while in South Vietnam, France was coming to war, and later on the United States will come and also attack South Vietnam. Other countries became to attack Vietnam, but they later retreated because it was all out war with them. The other countries that came to Vietnam were South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, New Zealand, Thailand, and Republic of China.
