Throughout this entire semester, I have learned many different aspects of society that I had a basic understanding of originally. I never would have imagined the amount of knowledge and real life stories I would gain in this class. I want to start of by saying that I am grateful to have taken this class and appreciate each and every story that was shared. These stories opened my eyes to a world I wouldn’t have normally seen. For that fact alone, I believe sociology was one of the most insightful classes in my college career so far.

Furthermore, the required internship helped me expand my professional network and afforded me awesome, hands-on experience

Going through Sociology at the same time I was providing my service to the S.U.N Club I noticed different “social norms” for the different generations and I was able to identify different sociological terms that I did not realize had made such an impact until I witnessed it happening. In our tiny town, we do not really have a “social status” there is not a person who believes they are set higher above another, there are many different social groups in town, many families have been friends for years and grew up together so many love to sit and eat together during this time. Everyone is seen as an equal in our town, no one is put down by the color of their skin or their religion. After noticing just a few of these things I began to realize I was not there to volunteer my time, but I was there to learn, to use the bases of sociology and see it everywhere I go. This was when I knew it was service learning, and I continue to learn about our tiny town and society every
More importantly, I truly believe my willingness to learn will make me a valuable asset to a company such as yours. I will not mind filling in as an Intake Coordinator when needed or being crossed trained as I enjoy floating and learning the different positions within my company. I am eager to form partnerships with practitioners, the national committee, and office staff. I look forward to the exposure, skills, and knowledge that such a position holds. Admittedly, change, increased responsibilities and assigned projects present an opportunity for me to be challenged, but those things also provide an opportunity for me to discover a new world of doing and being, which I’m always aiming to master. I am a lifelong student so I feel that there is so much for me to learn, to share, and to experience in this role. I honestly believe this will be a mutual

In this class I have learned that sociology is everywhere. I got a better understanding of how our life chances and shape by social structure and how it could have affected our self and society. We get understand where the people come from and understanding of behaviors and struggles of other people. We all watch movies right? Well in the movies they also replicate and show the understand of sociology even the movies that are base on true story. I watched two different movies such as “Stand and Deliver” and “The Color People,” that demonstrated the sociology perspectives that I have learned. The movies are good way to manifest learning and teach us how the world views characters in their movies and understand values. I learn there are
At the beginning of the semester, I knew very little about sociology or even what it was about. I just knew I needed to take the class for my degree plan to transfer to a four-year university and that I would be doing a lot of reading about different terms and theories of society. However, this first month of class has helped me improve my understanding of what sociology is about and shown me how my personal society has impacted the way I view society. Not only did I learn about the relationships between society and myself, but I have also learned different concepts that have helped me gain a better understanding of how society works. There are three specific sociological concepts that has helped me improve my understanding of the relation
In order to be able to fully understand the sociological imagination, you must be able to free yourself from the context that you are used to and start to look at things from a different point of view. As being a first-year university student I strongly believe that to become successful in school we need the sociological perspective since many students often find themselves sitting in classes pondering what is the purpose of all of this. When individuals graduate from high school we only see as far as the orientation week or the first day of school usually. Some students are often just looking at post-secondary as a way to escape from parent’s home for some freedom along with a new sense of self-expression. Subsequently, there are others who have their whole life planned out, and then the rest of us who fall into some middle category; that is where I fall. I have always known since I was younger and saw my mom working with adults with disabilities that I wanted to help people in some sort of way when I become older. I took all of the courses my high school offered to try and get a wide spread of what I could do in the future that involved helping others. Additionally, I also volunteered a great deal with my dad’s fire department and always got to talk with them about their job and different situations, which helped me see my community of a small town named Innisfil in a contrasting perspective. That is what lead me to major in social work here at Trent, although I
