Throughout this entire semester, I have learned many different aspects of society that I had a basic understanding of originally. I never would have imagined the amount of knowledge and real life stories I would gain in this class. I want to start of by saying that I am grateful to have taken this class and appreciate each and every story that was shared. These stories opened my eyes to a world I wouldn’t have normally seen. For that fact alone, I believe sociology was one of the most insightful classes in my college career so far.
Probation, as defined by Bartollas and Siegel, is “a form of punishment which allows the offender to remain in the community under supervision of a probation officer and is subject to certain conditions as set forth by the court” (2013). As such, the issue of probation supervision presents several challenges unique to this type of judicial punishment.

I am applying for the Juvenile Detention Officer position at the Juvenile Division of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD). I discovered this position through online job search via monster.com. I recently graduated from the University of Washington Bothell, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Psychology and minors in Human Rights and Diversity Studies. This position grabbed my attention because I’m passionate about motivating youth to change by helping them access the resources they need.
I love sociology because it is a field that is endless. Meaning, there are so many career paths one can go in with this degree and one is never limited to one career choice. I have friends that have a sociology degree that are working in the DFACS office that deal with human resources. My friend went to Albany State, and graduated with a sociology degree and does case work at a local DFACs office in town. She said it didn’t take long for her to find a job and plans on getting her master degree in a couple of months. One of my high school teachers had a master’s degree in sociology and before settling in with teaching she did different things like working in the advising and admissions office at her old college. Sociology, is the study of the
I am applying to your Bachlorette program in social work for the fall of 2015. After earning an associate’s degree in social work and another in interdisciplinary studies, I have decided that it is through these collective experiences that I have developed a deeper insight into the role of a social worker and the transformative support provided through it. Subsequently, this has prompted me to return to education and ultimately support vulnerable people experiencing need. I believe that my strong motivation towards achieving this, combined with practical experience and a passion to contribute significantly to our society and social development, demonstrates my potential as a candidate for the social worker program.
More importantly, I truly believe my willingness to learn will make me a valuable asset to a company such as yours. I will not mind filling in as an Intake Coordinator when needed or being crossed trained as I enjoy floating and learning the different positions within my company. I am eager to form partnerships with practitioners, the national committee, and office staff. I look forward to the exposure, skills, and knowledge that such a position holds. Admittedly, change, increased responsibilities and assigned projects present an opportunity for me to be challenged, but those things also provide an opportunity for me to discover a new world of doing and being, which I’m always aiming to master. I am a lifelong student so I feel that there is so much for me to learn, to share, and to experience in this role. I honestly believe this will be a mutual

I plan to become a Registered Nurse. As a nurse it is important to understand the patient completely and know where they come from. In sociology people are described in a "group" or "communtiy" perspective. Understand the many different varieties of people in society and fully understanding the meaning of "Sociology" will benefit nurses in not only one way but many. In the medical field there will be many ethical questions which can be partially covered via the study of sociology. After completing a job match board based on my interest and skills, I have found many different job matches to explore. The similar patterns that I have discovered are that most of my job matches deals with the safety and supervision of others. The job titles that I matched with were the roles of becoming a parole/probation officer, Family Social Worker, Compliance Officer, Flight Attendant, and Criminal Law Investigator. The branch that I am considering the most would be the parole/probation officer position. I am very committed to the study that leads me to earn my degree in Criminal Justice. I am motivated to do whatever it takes that is going to lead me into that profession. I chose this position because it is going to give me a chance to help people change their lives for the better before or after incarceration. Also, being in this position will let
Criminal Justice is a career one can choose to pursue. “I take it as a job, but I love it. It’s not like work to me; it is something I love to do…. Like they say, if you love what you’re doing, you never work a day in your life”. (Tutor). Becoming a probation officer is not easy. One will deal with multiple duties, such as, gender, dealing with people on a daily basis, education, and be able to fulfill the requirements to become a probation officer. However, if one likes working with people and following rules, this is definitely the career for interested applicants.
