With college expenses rising rapidly, more and more students are working while taking classes.
The Daily Nebraskan spoke with Chris Timm, the associate director at Career Services, for more information on how a student can find the best job.
According to Timm, it’s important to be able to balance school and work. Timm said mMany incoming students, when coming from high school to college, are surprised when they find out thethat the college workload is a lot heavier. Needless to say, school is expensive, so students should avoid missing classes, lectures or events simply for the sake of a job. A student should make sure to discuss their class schedule with their employer and figure out what time schedule works best for their academic life.

-- Timm recommends reaching out to former teachers and employers are recommended. A student should make sure that those who are on the reference sheet have approved the use of their name prior. After sending out resumes, a student should contact their references to let them know to expect a call from potential employers. are okay with it and let them know if they should be expecting a call anytime soon.
For a student looking for work, it is recommended that they look at Husker Hire Link or around the college of their choice. Colleges will typically post information on upcoming or available jobs which relate to the colleges specialty.
A student should try to find a job in their field. While any work experience looks good on a resume, jobs which relate to their future job look better.
“Students across campus, across the community can do a whole lot of things,” Timm said, “Physical jobs … administrative … I just hope what people do is ask, ‘Am I gaining skills for my long range career?’ For example, if a student wants to work with children but has spent all their time working at a restaurant, that’s really not going to help them as much.”

The five most important scenes of The Scarlet Letter were first, Hester holding baby Pearl being shamed on the scaffold right in the beginning. Second, when Chillingworth found out that Dimmesdale was the man who committed adultery with Hester. Third, when Hester and Dimmesdale were in the forest talking about fleeing and living with only each other and Pearl. Fourth, in which Dimmesdale finally reveals his sin to the public as he is on death’s bed. Finally, the last most important scene of the novel, is the “happy ending” when everything gets wrapped up.

Student need to do what they love. Find something that they will want to study or risk never being successful because they’ll be bored with their job. College has a huge variety of programs that can be studied so chances are there is one out there for everyone. If students find something they love to do then college really won’t be too difficult and they will like their job afterwards. “Education is about finding out what form of work for you is closest to being play” (Edmundson), jobs should be something enjoyable, almost like having fun doing a hobby. People need to do what they love so they won’t be bored or held back by their lack of enthusiasm and excel to and move up in the workplace being more and more successful.

Although the community college’s mission has not changed, employment skills have changed. In order to yield tangible economic benefits to the community, community colleges have to start to think more creatively (Rockefeller Institute of Government, 2010). For over thirty years, community colleges has been the go-to reference for their role in economic development and services rendered to the community (American Community College, 2014).
Being a student in high school and having a job can teach students how to manage their time well. Time management is the most important when it comes to having a job in high school. Some portion of growing up is having a calendar and staying on top of it. By taking a job in high school, high schoolers can discover how it feels before they hit college. Thus, they might have the capacity to go up against more duties and credit hours, and experience the advantages of both!
When thinking about graduating high school and going into college, do you ever think that you will get a job right when you graduate? Yes that may be the case for some individuals but for the more technical jobs and the ones that require more schooling for, look for student who have experience with their major. It is important to know the different internships that are offered throughout high school and college.
A survey from Citigroup finds that almost eighty percent of high school students take part in a part time job. Students do not have careers in their jobs through high school, but jobs that can keep money in their pockets. The decision is left up to the students if he/she wants to work and attend school simultaneously; the decision should not be left up to the parents/guardians. Although the decision should not be left up to the parents/guardians, getting a job should be encouraged to high school students. Having a job introduces students to the real world and transforms students into responsible young adults. Nothing can teach young adults responsibility and management like the experience of having a job throughout high school. Since I am
I work thrity-five hours a week at a warehouse in Ontario California. When I first registered for college classes, I figured college would be fairly easy to fit into my schedule. After all, I thought, college students are not in class all day, like high school students are. So, I assumed the twelve hours a week I’d spend in class wouldn’t be too much of a load. But I was in for a big surprise. My first semester at college showed me that students who work while going to college face problems at school, at work, and at home.
Dictionary.com defines manipulation as, “to manage or influence skillfully, especially in an unfair manner.” People hate to be told what to do and when to do things. They hate being told how they can act, what they can eat, and even things as simple as being told when to get up in the mornings. Imagine a person who is told they cannot read books, cannot have a journal, or cannot create art and do anything that involves having fun because it is a crime. The government restricts people so much, in some cases, the people do not fight back. People do not necessarily like the government, but they tolerate it. They are scared of the consequences that would happen if they defy the government. In George Orwell’s 1984, the Party will never fall because

In the beginning phases of our video project, we struggled to find a theme specific enough to embody all of the ideas we had as a group. We were very set on a certain direction, but that direction included a lot of different subsections that would make our task even more complicated. Accessibility on college campuses and beyond is a very important topic and one that aligned with our passion. But the likelihood for us to travel to another campus to conduct interviews & collect data was very low. This centered our focus on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In our own community there are many improvements necessary. The University of Illinois is home to some of the finest athletes with disabilities, but
Parents push their children to have more academic jobs and majors to improve their child's “status.” But when a student with high academic achievement chooses to have a vocational style job it is seen as unfortunate or even a waste of genius and intellect. Students should have the opportunity to be trained in whatever careers they want, even if it is a more vocational job like a trade instead of an academic job. If these students find these vocational jobs more meaningful than any academic job they should have the right to choose them because of their pursuit of happiness.
For those college students that are determined to get a specific job, they need to be research what employers are looking for. They will also need to know the employment rate for that job and how companies in that field feel about hiring college graduates. With the job market the way it is, employers can be picky about the people they hire
