Written communication is said to be the same as oral but it is written down on paper instead of words being spoken out loud, which then changes it from a ‘verbal’ to ‘non-verbal’ type of communication. Written communication is seen as more reliable than spoken communication, as information can be missed out and more added in. this can cause service users and care workers to receive wrong information, therefore potentially proving the wrong type of care needed which can cause conflict and possible danger for the service user.

The second week of my preceptorship brought many new experiences for me, and I can honestly say that each day I spend with my preceptor is better than the last. This week I focused on time management of a full patient load with continued documentation practice as well as admission and discharge procedures. I’ve had brief experiences in my past rotations assisting with discharge teaching and admission assessments however I have never been able to fully take charge and complete the process from start to finish, so this was a great learning opportunity for me.

Amy, I agree with you and can relate to your post. Writing for a nursing journal is not anything that I have considered either, truly I have had no interest. Finding something worthy to write about would be a personal challenge. I too would have numerous things that I would need to work on before considering to write for a nursing journal. Grammar and structure are two areas that would need to be perfected in my writing skills. Some of the articles that I started to read displayed the formal language and monotone, making it hard to hold my interest. I too had a hard time keeping on track finding it difficult to follow. Writing can help you in many ways if you were planning to go into this field. Writing is an everyday job for a nursing instructor. Communication you will need writing. Although communication usually goes through the internet such as emails. If the internet is down you will have no other choice than to write them. Especially if they are not or will not be on the job the day of or at all. I would write everything down just so I wouldn’t lose anything. The computers might shut down and reset by themselves overnight and then you lose everything because you didn’t write it down. An instructor usually does a lot of writing no matter what job is they have to do. Writing will also help you stay organized.
