I am interested in the subinternship at Stanford because it offers a diverse learning environment and a wide array of educational opportunities. I want to work with a diverse patient population at a hospital that offers a variety of treatment options. Most importantly, I am strongly interested in the Psychiatry residency program at Stanford. I want to work with the faculty and residents at Stanford and learn how Stanford healthcare system operates differently from my home institution. I also want to be closer to my mother who lives and works in the bay area. I look forward to the rigor of the clerkship and the opportunity to learn and grow under the guidance of leaders in the field of Psychiatry.
What draws me most to the OD program at MCPHS is the fact that the university prides itself in maintaining a culturally diverse student body. I believe cultural diversity is an important quality to have especially when it comes to handling patients. I grew up in a culturally diverse city, went to an extremely culturally diverse university (Wayne State University) and believe my own cultural interests would make a fine addition to MCPHS.

Working in Griffin Memorial Hospital was one of the best experience I have had in Psychiatry. There is a particular and rather unique sense of family that the program fosters, and that support and mingling between the different classes sets the program apart.
At the same time my mental illnesses were beginning to materialize. Once I realized something was wrong and had been officially diagnosed, I began to develop and intense interest in the human mind. Last semester I took a concurrent general psychology class. By the end of the first week, I knew that there was no other profession for me. After intense research and planning, I finally made the decision to major in psychiatry. This will allow me to work in a career field that will not only hold my interest, but will provide me with an atmosphere that will satisfy my need to help others.

Furthermore, the job will give me experience in the medical field that will help me gain a better understanding of the field. Also, experience is not an easy thing to come by and it will be limited opportunity. Of course this job will be as I’m in college working towards my bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

My interest in the human brain and behavior started long before medical school. I truly enjoyed the peer counseling and studies in psychiatry that I did as an undergraduate, as well as my preclinical psychiatry and behavioral science courses, but had not seriously considered psychiatry as a career before starting my clerkships. I was really surprised that, how much I loved my psychiatry rotations. In the locked psychiatric ward, working closely with patients and learning about their illnesses, I realized that I was deeply moved by their stories and devoted to doing what I could to help them manage their diseases.
From my understanding UMN Family Medicine Residency Programs has a long history with the goal of making a difference in the community by providing affordable quality health care for everyone in the community regardless of their socioeconomical status. It also emphasizing on integrating primary care and mental health care which is an important and growing concern in every community, though unfortunately it doesn’t get the attention it deserve in most primary care settings. I find this program values and objectives alien with my future career goals. I believe being part of this program will give me to opportunity to gain comprehensive clinical experience while work with in a community and grow better understanding of the needs of divers population.
Understanding the factors influencing students ' interest and respect for psychiatry is essential because of its obvious relevance to recruitment to psychiatry. Of the factors influencing students interest in psychiatry, medical school (institutional) factors may be amenable to corrective measures (Pardes, 1982; Zimny & Sata, 1986) (India).
