To achieve student success, I thought students had to be part of an extracurricular activity or take AP classes everyone else was afraid to take, or maybe even do both at the same time and still keep their grades stable and participate in the clubs or sports that they’re in. All the research came from watching a research documentary and from reading research articles. Luckily I was partially correct, the reason this is because Anaheim schools can improve student success if the following changes take place: shorter summer vacations, congratulating and complimenting students for their hard work instead of complimenting how smart they are, and by making it mandatory that students are part of a club or sport. Coming back from a long and scorching hot summer, students take a test about what they learned last year and don’t remember a clue about what they learned. Students tend to forget the most information learned from schooling during the summer because they aren’t doing anything productive during their three-month absence. “For Japanese twelfth graders, the answer was 92 percent. That’s the value of going to school 243 days a year. You have the time to learn everything that needs to be learned and you have less time to unlearn it. For American twelfth graders, the comparable figure was 54 percent. For its poorest students, America doesn’t have a school program. It has a summer problem”(9). Asian students are looked at to be the smartest people on the planet, but that’s not the case. It’s because they stay longer in school and have a short vacation, thus making it harder for them to forget the information they received. The poor students in America suffer the most because they come back to school and they have to relearn some information from the previous year. “The wealthiest kids come back in September and their reading scores jumped more than 15 points. The poorest kids come back from the holidays and their reading scores have dropped almost 4 points. Poor kids out learn rich kids during the school year, but during the summer, they fall behind”(8). Kids don’t do much during the summer so why should they have a long summer break? They’re gonna lose their intelligence and have to retrieve that back in the
Some of the main arguments the author acknowledges is the amout of students who do not succeed either in high school or college. Points are signed out by explaining how the lack of money or education frustrates the students. A topic is mention based on how even graduated students do not succeed as much in life. These people took college for four years or more, invested a lot of money, and ended up being a truck driver or working with sewage. Which makes no sense because they received a certificate to earn a good amount of money and unfortunitly have to look somewhere else because of the need of money. Topics like this or lack of money and education are frequently repeated.Freshman college students fail the most because instead of being taught
