“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.” –Bobby Unser. After interviewing a few sport sales professionals this became more and more apparent to me. Learning about all of the different styles and methods involved with selling athletics to people was a thing of beauty. Many times people do not understand how much work and preparation goes into selling season and single game tickets. Organizations are prepared for every curve ball they are thrown. Personally, I worked in the University of Iowa ticket office, so I have first-hand ticket sales experience. Colleges and Universities are forced to juggle a variety of collegiate athletic events, while professional sports teams can focus on their niche market more directly. I was privileged to interview a member of the Chicago Wolves, AHL team, and my favorite MLB team, the Chicago White Sox. Upon interviewing, I realized that even though they are different sports organizations, they use many of the same tactics and philosophies. I interviewed Jackie Schroeder, Director of Ticket Sales and Services, for the Chicago Wolves. I was also given the opportunity to interview Rich Kuchar, Senior Manager of Ticket Sales and Client Services, for the Chicago White Sox. Although Rich and Jackie are involved with miscellaneous client services, they focused mainly on ticket sales.
