Within a high school, there is a great divide. It separates the successful students, those were doing well and all of their classes, from the unsuccessful students, those who are barely passing their classes or struggling to get passing. The qualities that the successful students have that the unsuccessful students have not yet mastered are the ability to be attentive in class, the initiative to organize all aspects of their school life, and the intuition needed to ask the right questions. These are the bricks in the foundation of one's achievement. To elaborate, the first step to getting good grades and doing well on class assessments is to being able to absorb all the given information in class. The most fundamental way to ensure this occurs …show more content…
The main unit of organization used for subdividing homework and classwork would be a binder but folders work as well. These tools allow for easy access to all materials in a backpack because everything has a place. This is also beneficial if an item is misplaced because it is easily concluded that it is not in the backpack if the bag is organized. An example of this would be a boy I used to know named Thomas. He was the most organized person I had ever met. He had a spot for every single item in his backpack and he knew each location precisely. This was super helpful to him because he never misplaced any coursework or homework assignments. The only area of Thomas’ life that wasn’t quite organized was his time. I always urged him to purchase a planner but he claimed to be above that. He always knew exactly where his homework assignments were in his bag the day they were due but most of the time they weren’t completed because he had forgotten. This is where time management comes into play. No matter how organized a person is physically, they must also have orgainzation of time, such as prioritization. This is done by keeping a planner. Not only do planners keep track of homework assignments but they also keep track of important events, project due dates, and extracurricular activities. I actually own a planner myself and I can say from experience that it was the best $1.99 …show more content…
the purpose of asking meaningful questions is to insure that a subject is understood. Asking questions helps to avoid later confusion. I can relate personally to this attribute because, ask anyone who knows anything about me, and they will inform you of how inquisitive I am. I ask questions often to ensure that there are no gray areas. For example, I was once given an assignment in an English class and I felt the instructions weren't clear so I asked for a rubric. Turns out, my instructor had forgotten to hand out the rubric and she also confessed that it would have been 10 times more difficult to complete the assignment without this handout. That is one out of many times where asking questions was useful. In addition to gathering information, asking questions will encourage free communication between the student and the teacher. The fact that a student is asking questions shows that they’re humble enough to admit that they don’t know everything, and teachers admire this. It also shows the craving for knowledge which teachers always love to see in their
Coming to this school made me change into a completely different person these last three years. My whole educational career I was always trying my hardest to be on the honor roll team and have the most perfect attendance. I never thought I would’ve ended up in the plight I’m at now as a graduating senior. There were many deterrents outside of the classroom that affected my performance in school, as it showed drastically in my grades as well as my attendance. In this essay I will be discussing those obstacles, who were involved, who helped me, and how I overcame them to finally get my high school diploma.
The second piece of advice is to take the time to study the information that the teachers give to you. Study for tests and quizzes several days before the exam, especially for semester tests. Some teachers make that grade worth one-third of your semester grade, and if you really want to get a good grade and do well in school, you need to study all of the time. If you are stuck on a problem or idea and don't understand it, don't be afraid to ask the teacher for help or a friend who is smart. It always pays off to ask for that extra help if you don't get something.
As students were forced into their growth of knowledge in elementary school and middle school by continuously being taught basics, in order to prepare them for high school and beyond, they get to gain their freedom and decide whether or not they want to meet their teachers’ marks in high school. Throughout the school year, there comes a time where students have to sign up for classes. By having this choice, students can decide on how they want to challenge themselves in the next school year. During my two and a half years of high school that I have conquered so far, I learned that in a classroom setting there are students who take advanced courses, enjoy the subjects that they chose to take, and try their best to get the best grades that they can receive, in order to prepare them for their future in adulthood. However, there are also students who do not try or realize the importance of the free education given to them because they do not have an interest in the subjects that teachers are teaching them or are just being forced by their students to attend school. Some teachers try their best to bring out the motivation in these students who do not yet see that education is power and freedom, but there are also teachers who ignore these helpless students that are blinded by the present things that affect them like popularity or living with the motto that “you only live once”, because these teachers do not have the inspiration in the

We should be aware of how fortunate we are to be in an environment where we can gain knowledge and demonstrate performance while challenging ourselves. Eager to learn, I completed two science courses in the first year of high school. Then, continuing to strive for academic excellence, I enrolled in honors and advanced placement courses, as well as college classes. Ultimately, attending high school teaches the lesson that education is beyond grades; it is about developing character, and
While I’m in class, I will make sure that I listen to what my instructors are saying and how they say to do something. It is also very important to take notes on what is being taught in the class, and whatever your teacher may right on the broad. In order to receive a passing grade and really pass the class I will have to complete all of my homework.
Since school seems to be one of the biggest causes of stress, in high school students, getting organized for school and in general could be lift a few boulders. The first step to getting organized is getting rid of unnecessary things and then finding a system that works for your lifestyle. A good rule of thumb for declutter is, asking yourself when was the last time you uses it. If it’s been more than six months, the answer to that question is probably no. Now when it comes to finding a system that works well for you, it is important to think would you actually stay consist with it. For example, one of my favorite ways I see people stay organized for school, is by using one of those tumblr style bullet books. Which can, also be used as a creative
A very important part of life is education. In order to acquire a satisfying education, one should complete high school prior to college. College and high school have two different levels of education, but both are trying to further student’s knowledge. As recent high school graduates and college freshman’s many can clarify similarities and differences between the two. Some obvious similarities are that both have assignments, classrooms, and students. Although college and high school have many differences three of the main ones are the teachers, classes, and responsibilities.
Julia tries her best very hard to complete her homework and classwork assignments. She works well in small groups with teacher-guided instruction. Julia is currently a 8th grade level student. She is struggling to meet grade-level requirements in reading and writing. Her mother requested that Julia be tested. Julia is able to socialize in class. Julia makes friends easily and is very affectionate. Julia is a sweet and loving child, she gets along well with her peers. However, more additional information is needed to determine whether Julia eligible for special education services.
I know that the only way to attain the information I need to pass this class with a passing grade is to attend every lecture. Staying focused during lectures is also of high importance because that is the only time I will be able to take notes that are not available in the book. Staying focused also means giving myself the time to complete any assignments. Giving myself the time to focus on my assignments per day will allow me to complete them in adequate time, therefore, managing my time with individual assignments is also going to be very important. Another step in successfully passing this class is one of the most important, and that is setting time aside to study. Studying will be the main step to completing this class with a passing grade. If I do not give myself the time to do so, all my efforts will not pay out. Finally, not being ashamed to ask for help when needed will be key to my success. At times, I can feel a bit embarrassed to speak up, which will only affect my grade. Not only will stepping out of my comfort zone be beneficial to my learning experience, I will also benefit in better understanding topics when in doubt.
One of the best things I did throughout my career in school was to write all of my assignments and events in an agenda. They would give us these in middle school with boxes for each class and motivational quotes and some pretty random information that I read when I was bored in class over and over again. Having an agenda and your teachers doing agenda checks every week made me incredibly organized and I can’t even fall asleep with a piece of clothing on the floor or a box unchecked in my agenda. I will bring this skill with me to college and into my future because it makes my life a lot easier and I am less stressed when I have a plan to do everything on a specific day of the week or
All around the world, children and young adults prepare for the upcoming school year. Equipped with school supplies, clothes and shoes, they are ready to enter the school halls-- some determined to succeed and others ready to leave before the year has begun. No matter where the school is located, three types of students will always be present:: the Smarty Pants, the Slacker, and the Pass or Fail.
I am Mark Inouye, a junior in Konawaena High School. At the very core of my intent in wanting to attend this class is simply the emotion of success. I have always longed to stand at the pinnacle of academic and overall success with my peers. The feeling of academic success is one that drives me to continue to do better, and better. It's comparable to continuing a combo in a video game, “I got this far, let's see how much more I can go!” This is the mentality I receive in my process.
Upon entering high school, I made a goal to myself: I wanted to become a better version of myself, realizing my own strengths and weaknesses and, ultimately, preparing to be a part of a completely different atmosphere beyond high school and even college. From the beginning, I knew I was going to find a way to improve academically, as a member of Kingsway’s STEM Academy and Superintendent’s List throughout my high school career. However, I would never think that I, as an eighth grader, would ultimately rise above my classmates, eventually being third in my class freshman year and still enjoying the rigor of taking as many AP and Honors classes as I possibly could fit in my schedule. By being recognized and awarded for my achievements, I finally realized that being this type of student, one that strives to do the best and remains self-motivated no matter what difficulties are faced, gives me a purpose as student and overall enjoyment.
School is a melting pot of people. Everyone is different, which means that everyone has different ways of learning. Although different, there are similarities among students which leads them to fit into three different classifications. These three classifications are the overachievers, academically average students, and the underachievers or slackers. Admittedly, these categories are heavily influenced by media’s portrayal of different students but can still be useful when evaluating what kind of person each student is.
