Certainly there are many ways to learn and many factors that come to mind that help making it easy, fast and efficient. However, people might be mislead by talent being the main component that helps us learn how to accomplish certain tasks, when effort and eagerness to learn are more valuable components. To develop successful learning habits hard work and motivation are two valuable ingredients, unlike talent, which is not going to improve your learning skills.

According to Dr. Rita Smilkstein’s research into learning, the Natural Human Learning Process explains how the brain develops when someone learns. The first step is motivation to learn a new skill. People get motivated when something becomes a necessity or seems fun to them. Then the second step is the beginning practice. The beginning practice is when someone uses hands on experience and uses trial and error with the skill they are motivated to learn. The third step, she calls the advanced practice stage. In this stage the learner gains control through repetition and continuing practice learning the skill. The fourth step is skillfulness. The learner becomes more successful due to practice and gets positive reinforcement from their results. The fifth step is the refinement stage. This is when the skill becomes second nature and the person can learn new methods. The sixths and final step is mastery. This is when you can teach your skill you learned to someone else
For example, in order for me to learn how to do injections, or draw blood I’d have to practice in a clinic. Doing these tasks correctly means asking others for help when needed, setting a goal, and planning out the strategy to learning it, monitoring my progress, and getting feedback from others about my performance. The best way deliberate practice can help me fully learn these new skills is by practicing them repetitively. You know the saying “practice makes perfect?” You can’t learn how to do billing, or how to administer injections overnight. It takes time, and effort to learn something new. There are many factors that play a very important part in our lives. Consistent practice, a growth mind-set, and supportive mentors light up the road that leads us to success. If someone practice for hours, but does not have a growth mind-set or supportive mentors, then it is next to impossible to accomplish his goal. And if another one has a growth mind-set, but does not practice or has someone to support him, then he can not make it to the end. As a new student in college I thought it was going to be just like high school that there was no need to study since the teachers would give us credit for everything and we would pass the classes like nothing. However, I was totally wrong for having that mindset for college. Once you are a college student everything changes. It is extremely important to find good study habits that will help you with your learning skills and that will make college a little less difficult.
However, artistic talent does not come naturally. I have honed my skills over my entire life, gaining layers and layers of knowledge similar to how a painting becomes more detailed with additional layers of paint. When I create a piece of work, it can appear finished at first. However, when revising it later, it seems unfinished and lacking in textures and details. If I add more paint layers to fix certain aspects, it becomes a better piece as a whole. Even some subtle touches of paint can dramatically improve a piece of art. A person is capable of learning a skill if they put their time and effort towards what they feel passionate about. Has someone ever wanted to develop an ability that you practice it for hours a day? I did, I have spent around 100 hours a year trying to perfect my loving skill, volleyball. It was a hardworking skill, but enjoyable as well. It is my way of life. The most important years of my life was my volleyball experience in High School.

If I'm not given the proper tools then there's no way I can be successful. It all starts with the teacher. Without the help of the teacher you can't be led to success because the teacher is the main source of knowledge. They will prepare you and prompt you to do certain assignments that are geared toward bringing you to the next level. The next step start with you, you have to be able to open your mind and want to learn more. If you're not able to open your mind and learn new things you'll always be in the same position. During my time in study skills I have learned what kind of personality I have when it comes to learning as well as how to handle stress and create free time for myself. The most important areas I have learned and will focus on at this point when I finish my class is how to improve my future test scores, keep up on my note taking, how I can keep improving my reading skills, and my goals I now have after taking study skills.
Students that are in the beginning of trying to learn how to study, and building on getting good habits; need to develop this skill at a young age, and usually is picked up on their own. The first technique that I will be using is summarization which is how to generalize the main points of the texts and how to weed out the unimportant material. The second technique that I want to use is highlighting. Highlighting is a common practice in studying and can be a fairly easy but non- effective task. The last technique that I will use is practice testing which is studying the material and then giving yourself a test whether its practice questions, flashcards, or many other choices.
