Carriers of the viruses of HIV and AIDS have been silenced for far too long. It is time to speak out. In Mary Fisher’s speech “A Whisper of AIDS” she helps her audience to understand that the topic of HIV and AIDS should no longer be silenced. Fisher stood before an audience of her peers and used many forms of persuasion available to her in order to evoke a positive significant response from her audience.
AIDS is a worldwide epidemic that has affected and is affecting millions of people. Even though it was not discovered until 1982 many stereotypes have come along with it. Mary Fisher is an AIDS community member and is not afraid to stand up and say so. Defending and helping those with HIV/AIDS and helping them spread the word instead of keeping silent. In 1991 she found out that she had contracted the disease from her second husband and now Fisher is one of the world’s leading activists in the fight against HIV/AIDS. (Newman, 2010)
For years, women have fought to gain the same rights and treatment as men. Those women that have been fighting to gain equality have been held back and their opportunities have been stripped away from them due to the simple fact of being women. “Feminism is the belief in social, political, and economic equality of the sexes” (Scholz 2013). The feminist movement has been the key factors in helping women gain equal rights for those who have been underprivileged of their rights and equivalence that society refuse to give to them. A woman has every right to be treated equally to men and feminism is accomplishing this slowly. Feminism is not only beneficial to women, it helps both men, women, and children because it is allowing the communities

“Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed.” (-Bob Riley). This quote truly describes what it means to be a hero because a hero never gives up. A hero is always optimistic, even during hard times, and a hero is fearless and steps up to the challenge. Although being a hero may seem impossible, we never know when the “hero” within us could be revealed.
The movie North Country was inspired by Jenson v. Eveleth Taconite Co. a Supreme Court Case that changed sexual harassment in the workplace. In the film, North Country, Josey Aimes, a single mother of two, is one of the first women to work at an iron mine in Minnesota. After being abused by her ex-husband, Josey moves in with her parents in Northern Minnesota and starts working in an iron mine. This was the first time that the iron mines of North Minnesota hired female miners. During this time females who were working in the mines were being constantly harassed by their male coworkers who believe that, that was not a women’s work. This sexual harassment included uncomfortable situations, insults, sexual language and physical abuse and psychological
Throughout the novel the author, Sally M. Keehn, has written many interesting scenes. Three specific scenes that intrigued me are when Regina thinks she and Sarah will die when they’ve finally reached Tiger Claw’s village, but instead the Indians keep them alive. Another scene that caught my attention was when the Indians and Regina (Tskinnak) are dancing in a peaceful manner when suddenly Dupré, the Frenchman, comes and then the celebration of peace is changed into one that is of war. Another scene that comes to mind is when Woelfin scolds Regina for telling the children white man’s stories, but Regina tells her the Indians killed her father, but she still tells the Indians stories and she will share white man’s stories she remembers because, both, the Indians and White man’s stories teach the children lessons.
Screams and shouts sounded throughout the air. The smell of popcorn, corn dogs, and other unhealthily fried delights could be smelt from every direction. Yet two women in the busy crowd were unaffected by it all.

One autumn day, in Thomas Jefferson’s estate of Monticello, more than one hundred slave workers were hard at work collecting all of the crops as the harsh, frigid weather of winter approaches. The weather was already freezing, with temperatures expected to get lower.

A few slave stories were more compelling than Margaret Garner's. She and her family were owned by a Kentucky plantation farmer, but then one night they decided to escape to Ohio with other slaves. Although the story of Margaret Garner showed similarity within the novel Beloved there was also some differences. A runaway slave deciding whether or not she’d kill the ones she loved before letting them experience the suppressed memories she tried so hard to hide. There was some resemblance with the murdering of the youngest child in both stories which helped framed Toni Morrison’s intentions of Margaret Garner’s story. This story of Margaret Garner was one that sparked deeper interest and compassion.
