W1 ASSIGNMENT-3: SIX DIMENSIONS
A. Gilchrist-Settles
Jesus said” whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I give him will become in him a well of water springing up eternal life”
The water that Jesus gives to me is the acceptance of Jesus Christ in my life; thus allowing the Spirit of God to take control of my life, my being, and transform a new life within me. I am enabled to share the God’s love with others. The transformation that is brought forth through Jesus Christ motivates me to seek a Christ like image instead of my worldly image which was made new in the “living water” that Jesus gives .The sinful heart is changed inner and expressed outward by the show of love toward others.
This is commissioned by God that His disciples are to spread the “good news” gospel to all the nations. “Go Therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I commanded you,” (Matthews28: 19-20, NABS). This is also the church’s method of fulfilling its mission of spreading the gospel. As disciples our heart must be transformed for Christ’s likeness to transfer to others. As a disciple” watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life,” (Proverb4:23). When we form a close relationship with God and examine the “water” closely we begin to realize that following Christ’s ways are less tedious than trying
In their book, The Great Commission to Worship, Vernon Whaley and David Wheeler takes an in depth look at commandment from Jesus for His followers to go out and spread the Good News of salvation. Today’s Christian seems to have a misconception about their role in evangelism. As the authors stated, “many times in Scripture it appears

I agree with David Foster Wallace in This is Water that a good education doesn’t teach you what to think, but rather, how to think. It remarkably easy to wallow in self-pity and see things as getting in your way as this is how a human’s brain is wired, but a truly educated person is able to recognize this flaw, step out of their shell and and take on a more broad perspective. For example, my mother became upset with me for using exclamation points in my texts as she felt as if I was “yelling” at her. At first, I thought this was completely ridiculous and I refused to apologize, but then I realized that it doesn’t matter what I thought about using exclamation points⸺it matters how she perceived it. I adopted her mindset, apologized
Water. It expresses its’ power in the form of hurricanes and flash floods. It displays its gentleness, washing dirt off a child's scabbed knee. Water has been used to quench the thirst of many longing throats; and it has been the cause of death to those who unfavorably crossed its path. It possesses the power of total destruction, yet it holds the bases of all life. Generally, water has symbolized cleanliness and renewal. In the Bible, water was used in Baptism, cleansing the soul of original sin and offering a new life in the light of God. Water in itself is a natural purifier, washing the dirt from our bodies. Water is a symbol of
At the start of my journalistic investigation I stumbled upon a 2010 documentary by the explorer Wes Skiles titled Water’s Journey. The short film is available online free of charge and follows a scientific team of four as they traverse the Florida aquifer in real time. The goal of their mission was to explore and extensively map the inside of the Florida Aquifer for the first time. The four individuals on this groundbreaking mission included Tom Morris, a cave explorer and biologist, Jill Heinerth, a technical dive specialist, the Wes Skiles, and electromagnetics expert Brian Pease. Pease designed a revolutionary transmitter that was able to send signals through Florida’s solid rock and water below, which allowed for him and Skiles on the surface to actively track Morris and Heinerth as they explored the depths below.
“God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son and Holy Spirit “- Matthew 28:18-20 (The Message)
21). I agree, it is vital that the disciple is involved in an intentional, ongoing plan that challenges themselves to greater Christ-likeness which manifests itself in the nurturing of others toward wholeness. This is what we are called to do when we become children of God. Christian Spiritual formation cannot happen in solitude; therefore, the purpose of spiritual formation is to ultimately lived out in community. This aligns with my view of personal and corporate spiritual formation. If we are not conformed to the image of Christ, we cannot incarnate in our relationships with others. Therefore, if we say we love God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit we are to love others. The image of Christ will be seen as the ultimate reality of human wholeness, the consummation for which each heart longs (Mullholland, p. 21). Therefore, God’s people has a role in healing brokenness and injustice in the world (p. 21). We are to be the salt and light of the world (Matthew
You, a single individual, are not the center of the world; contrary to the belief many people are fed as children. This Is Water by David Foster Wallace continues well into detail about such. It is a natural human instinct to care more about your personal situation than that of others. We choose to place ourselves first because of the fear of vulnerability. When fellow human beings become obstacles in our lives we label them as any condescending adjective under the sun; often the terms stupid, annoying, infuriating, pig-like, and slow make their appearances. This is only because the individuals have become hindrances to your daily life however most pose no threat. It is difficult to break the mold but it is indeed possible. Every human has
From this religious perspective, water symbolizes origin, or creation of life, the possibility of existence. The land is seen as divine not because it was created
“This is Water” by David Foster Wallace focuses on finding the silver lining in challenging situations. However, Wallace does not try to create the false illusion that life is always happy-go-lucky. By way of using a bleak diction and cynical tone, Wallace creates a very realistic view on the adult life for his audience, a class of graduating seniors. Wallace reminds the future alumni life can become a ‘day-in and day-out routine’, therefore they must remain optimistic in testing situations and try to find the silver lining when it’s hardest to do so.
As a church, we believe in the great commission found in Matthew 28, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. It is essential for us to reach out to our community, but first
Water is something that is seen as solely necessary for human beings to stay hydrated, but the novels being mentioned in this paper describe water as being something more. Praisesong for the Widow by Paule Marshall, Krik? Krak! by Edwidge Danticat and Masters of the Dew by Jacques Roumain all depict water as being something that helps with liberation, recovery and new life.
Water is a necessity for life. Beloved’s rebirth holds the entire meaning of life within water. “A fully dressed woman walked out of the water (50)”. Although Beloved was murdered she continues to live
The Importance Of Water To Living Organisms Water is normally the most abundant component of any living organism. As most human cells are approximately 80% water and 60% of the human body is made up of it, it is extremely important in many different ways to both the survival and the well being of living organisms. Evolutionists believe that life probably originated in water and even today thousands of organisms make their home in it. Water also provides the medium in which all biochemical reactions take place. The importance of water to living organisms originates from its many properties including its solvent properties, its high specific heat capacity, its high latent heat of vaporization,
Most likely my obsession with oceans was born in the sensory playground of my mother’s womb. The yearning to float weightlessly on warm, soothing waves is one of my earliest emotional connections. This attraction for water has been the basis for the majority of my life choices. Where I choose to live, work, play and travel are predicated on being on, in or near an ocean or a beach. Nevertheless a lake, river, pool or even a Jacuzzi will suffice as alternatives.
