I read the book 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper. This book is an autobiography that tells the real life story of how a man dies and comes back to life. It was a cold, early winter morning when Don Piper decided to take a different route to work. Don was crossing a bridge when a semi hit a patch of ice and swerved out of control smashing into Don and his red coupe at seventy miles per hour. Paramedics arrived immediately and pronounced Don to be dead. He had died instantly in the crash. Many people ran to the scene to help with the 100 hundred car pileup. Among these people was a man named Dick Onerecker. For some reason, he had the urge to crawl in the back of Don’s car and pray with Don even though he had been pronounced dead.

God has a plan for all of us. The power of prayer is amazing. I now have a much better understanding of heaven. Don Piper is a living example of a miracle. He was not supposed to live, but he did. I believe that God has a plan for all of us. For some unexplainable reason on that cold winter morning, Don Piper decided to take a different route to work. For some reason, he decided to put his seat belt on when he rarely wore it. For some reason, Dick Onerecker had the gut feeling that he needed to randomly pray for a man he did not know. These incidents are all an examples of God’s plan. There is only one possible explanation why these incidents happened and why they happened in the way that they did. The answer is it is all part of God’s plan. One must believe that all of this was part of God’s plan. There is an old saying that I now disagree with, “good things happen to good people.” Yes, I think that this is true for instance; a person who helps everyone and puts others first is going to have people put them first. This is like the golden rule. My grandma always preaches to me that what you give to the Lord you will get back ten fold. The part I disagree with is that bad things happen to good people. Example: Don Piper was a minister and a great father, but yet he was still hospitalised for an entire year and endured more pain than anyone should ever have to handle. This is…show more content…
Since, reading 90 Minutes in Heaven I have a much better understanding of heaven. Before reading this book I believed in heaven I just had many questions that made me unsure about it. Heaven is a place that I am not ready to go to yet, but I am not afraid to go when my time is done here on earth. One of the things that Don Piper cleared up about heaven for me is, that anyone can go. Before I somewhat believed in the one hundred and forty thousand capacity limit that is mentioned in the bible. Now I believe that any christian can make it to heaven as long as they are a practicing christian and are active with the lord. Purgatory is something I have always thought a lot about and something that I have feared. I am now more that I will be able to make it to heaven without having to make a trip to purgatory. I am glad that I have read this book, it has provided me with certainty of my faith that I never had before and I am so thankful to Don Piper for writing this
