Pete Wentz’s songs are full of allusions, irony, connotations, and metaphors tell stories and views. The lyrics often are hard to understand, but if one looks into the lyrics, there are different meanings and interpretations.
For example, in “Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes”, the lines “So boycott love / Detox just to retox” could have many different meanings. The first line may when looked at may have two different meanings. Many people boycott things because they think it may be bad for them and other people and love isn’t the kindest of things. Though, there may be a second meaning. Think about how someone feels after their heart is broken; quite often they don’t want to fall in love again. So maybe they are boycotting love just to keep themselves safe? And if you look at the second line, “Detox just to retox” could also have different meanings. It could be about some addicts: they may just abstain from something just to retox, or go back to it again. But, also it could be about how people aren’t perfect and they try to detox only to go back to it. And, when you look at both lines it could be someone trying to “boycott love” or leave a person and boycott their love. And people detox to rid themselves of something toxic, and love can be toxic in the case of toxic relationships. And quite often, many go back to their abusers which could be what “Detox just to retox” could allude to. This is just the writer’s take, it could mean something else to someone else.

In today’s society, music controls the way we live our lives. The influence that music has on society has broadened throughout the years and with social media being one of the world’s top priority, the fan base and spectrum for music in general has expanded significantly. Music is used to express feelings, moods, circumstances, experiences, knowledge, and so much more. With this being the case, the lyrics of any song can be interpreted differently by each and every listener. Many song lyrics give positive messages, promoting well-being, whiles others give negative messages, promoting violence, criminal behaviors, sexual contents, and disrespect towards others. With this being said, music reflects what the public demands, and in many cases the negative messages are often times what sells more than those music giving positive messages.
My song utilizes the poetic devices of simile, rhyming, imagery, and repetition like that of “Mrs. Potato Head” by Melanie Martinez. Unlike the other poetic devices, only one simile can be seen, and that’s in lines 8-9. Rhyming, on the other hand, runs rampant throughout the entire piece, only leaving a few small gaps in between. While not as frequently placed, imagery can be seen in lines 2, 11, 14-15, 16-18, 20-21, and 27. Each one of these lines gives you an insight into the troublesome life of the song’s namesake, Our Guardian Angel, whose unfortunate circumstances are purposefully downplayed like that of Martinez’s character, Mrs. Potato Head. In other words, Our Guardian Angel and Mrs. Potato Head are struggling to endure the ignorance
I don't understand why people think all lyrics are pointless like if you would actually take the time to look them up and watch videos about what his lyrics actually mean you would understand what the point of the lyrics are but some people just don't give enough f**ks to actually spend time trying to
This is what they call imagery. The singer is saying be yourself do not follow others, be yourself and don’t let your perse stop you. Later on in the song it say,”The ice we skate is getting pretty thin/ The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim/ My worlds on fire. How about yours/ That’s the way I like it and i’ll never get bored.” (Smash Mouth) This entire line of the song describes stress and it will try to stop you from being you, but when he rose up and he made a difference and forgot all about the stress he once had. The first part of the lyric is a simile. The final lyric in the song that is important is,” Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas/ I need to get myself away from this place/ I said yep, what a concept/I could use a little fuel myself/ And we could all use a little change.”( Smash Mouth) What he means by this is people ask him what he did to become this famous and he said,”you have to follow your dreams.” This is an example of a
The lyrics of a song often have no substance and a clear example would be any Britney Spears song. The lyrics of “All Falls Down” are very deep. They talk about the ideal situation in life; We should go to school, get a good job and make money to buy what we want. The lyrics then ask, what if this doesn’t happen? This is prevalent in the first verse. “She has no idea what she doing in college. That major that she majoring, it don’t make no money.” The song questions these everyday values because we focus so much on these things, we don’t realize there are more important things in life such as life itself. Even Kanye admits that he spent money at Jacob’s Jewellery store before he thought about a house. “I went to Jacob with
As first glance most people did in fact think that this song was about drugs, but Chance even tweeted about it saying "Same Drugs is not about drugs". He also uses several Peter Pan references in the track like referring to the girl he is rapping about as "Wendy" and asking her "when did you forget how to fly". These references most likely means this girl is from Chance's childhood and the lost connection between the two of them has occurred as the two have grown
What it means is that sometimes meaning has no meaning. Its meaning is meaningless. It’s only meaning is what you see and what you hear. Take for example Document A, titled “l(a”. The poem shows various centrally focused letters, each one in pairs of two but three phrases. “One”, “l”, and “iness”. Together they’d spell out “oneliness”. Not a genuine word, is it? How could this hold any meaning? They don’t. It’s up to you to interpret it. The way I see it, there’s an isolated “l” before the parentheses. The parentheses are later closed off, meaning the “l” isn’t part of it. The isolated “l” from the word “loneliness”? Ironic. And what’s inside the parentheses? The phrase spells out “aleaffalls”. Rearrange it, and you acquire “A leaf falls.” “Loneliness.” This creates imagery, a vivid picture in your mind, showing a single leaf, gently falling, swaying back and forth, along with the words. That’s not what the poem described, though. All it said was the word loneliness and stated a leaf was falling. Yet the formatting of the words, it appealed to my senses, it let me create an image in my head that wasn’t even
This song is concentrated on the social construction of reality, which talks about about how “Ideas about reality also change over time” (Newman, 53). We can see this expressed in lines 32-33 in the song : “It just ain't the same, old ways have changed/New days are strange, is the world insane…” (lines 32-33) The band states how the world’s views and attitudes have changed and how there is uncertainly for the future. The band is questioning the values that they once lived up to. “Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity/Whatever happened to the fairness in equality/ Instead of spreading love we're spreading animosity/ Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity…” (lines 71-74). They imply that individuals are swaying away from their values, as a result changing their reality.
In order to better understand the serial killer, Buffalo Bill, we must first understand what motivates him to kill. I will be using three theses to state my claims in this paper and they are the following: Thesis 1: The Monster's Body is a Cultural Body, Thesis 2: The Monster Always Escapes, and Thesis 4: The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference. The purpose of this paper is to dissect Buffalo Bill's monstrosity and to examine what sets him apart from the rest of society. I intend to argue that Buffalo Bill is indeed an insecure murderer.
This song particularly is confusing in its general direction and message, but perhaps that is what makes it so tangible and why Weezer was so successful. It is relatable in that it is not an ethereal, untouchable piece of art, but still art in its’ own right, because Weezer plays it close to the vest by presenting the song more as a stream of consciousness; both jumbled and erratic; as opposed to a finely-tuned, edited entertainment
Today same the past in the Native American Culture (USA and Canada) the White Buffalo is synonymous of Peace, harmony and balance in their life. Miracle, the Sacred White Female Buffalo Calf, was born on the farm of Master Wolf in Hollywood near Miami City. All the community of Native American are happy, they talk about the new times is coming, and the Prosperity is for all the world, is not a dream is a reality to share every time in the new path. I hope the humanity receive this gift of the Great Spirit with humility and gratitude.
He is called for Sitting Bull but his real name is Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake. He was called also for “Jumping Badger” by his family. It is not known when he was exactly born but, its around 1831. He was born in Grand River into the Hunkpapa people.
Born in the Dominican Republic, at the age of 10, my family and I migrated to this country to fulfill the American dream. As a girl from a small Spanish speaking island, I had to maneuver through the public school system in order to achieve the goals that I once never thought I would conquer. With language being the ultimate challenge, I fundamentally had to learn the English language on my own. Yet through the frustration of inequalities and lack of resources presented to children in inner-city communities, ambition grew inside me. My mother would say to me “Everyone deserves to have a fair share of what they loved to do.” However, at the same time, I was also taught that nothing is easily handed to you, and that “if you want it, then you have to work for it.” I live by the words of my mother, and when I receive the opportunity to continue my education at
The piece Yuma Buck and Nude Squaw by Henry Buehman taken place in the Tucson Arizona Territory in the 1870s is a visual representation of colonialism within the 70s. Because Buehman was a white man and an outsider looking into the Indian community that he studied, audiences are easily able to see the informed accents of colonialism in his work. This photo in particular represents the the concept of the colonial gaze quite well. By definition the colonial gaze is how westerners and non-westerners see Indigenous people. The individuals within the photo look as if they have a lot of disinterest in the photoshoot, which is what Buehman may have been hoping for. Because they are not smiling or in a confident pose it is almost as if Buehman is intentionally trying to represent the colonial gaze.
This verse compare his musical career to sex for the first time. A virgin will push to the limit to "pop her cherry" and get the physical pleasure that she so despartley wants, especially when a girl is losing her virginity, she tries to make it the best experience of her life because it will impact her for the rest of her life. He is also portraying how he is "virgin" to the kind of money a famous singer will make, so hopefully he can handle it. this is his only chance and he hopes that he will be on top and stay there.
