In the article “Do Pop Stars Owe Their Private Lives?” by Grace Donahue from The Daily Free Press, the social status of certain popular artists: Arianna Grande and Taylor Swift. This article goes through certain songs from these two artists and the emotional connections Grande and Swift are making in their music, and the meaning behind them. The author states that the public should not be shaming these two artists for being so vulnerable with their fans and sharing their stories (Donahue). This article is directed towards the general public or anyone who listens to Grandes or Swifts music and was written at Boston University. One of the quotes she chose in particular is from Swift's song, ”Dear John”, the author states the quote and then uses a logical argument to explain the quote, ““Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?” hints at the duo’s age gap — Swift was 19 years old when she was romantically linked to 32-year-old Mayer” (Donahue). This provides a logical argument for the huge age gap between Mayer and Swift. The quote supports Donahue's topic of artists' vulnerability because Swift is explaining her experience in her song in an unprotected way. Donahue then states the fact that they had such a huge age gap directly after the age gap is inferred in the quote, therefore using logos in an effective way. Donahue's word choices throughout the article help the author connect with the audience on an emotional level and gain more of their trust. She uses this a few times in her article; two examples of this would be,”One of the most haunting lyrics” and “The track is heartbreakingly raw and vivid” (Donahue).
