While Dave Horton is referring to more of the safety side to promote helmets by showing awareness of safety. The Fear of Cycling makes the readers be more aware of becoming motivated to get into shape
In The Bicycle, by Jillian Horton, the author is demonstrating the importance of being your own person. Hannah goes through the story, listening to and following Tante Rose until she makes the choice to sacrifice her gift to have more freedom. Hannah, the main character, is a pianist who lives with her aunt, Tante Rose. In this story, Hannah is determined to become a gifted pianist, in her faith and herself as an individual. Hannah reflects on herself and tries her best to be the best pianist by sacrificing many hours to her gift. Hannah even moved in with her aunt Rose so she can use her master piano and will always be able to practice. Tante Rose says Hannah has a gift, and she says that it will take hard work and focus, but Hannah is going
3. On the other hand, motorcycle enthusiasts believe increased fatality rates are caused by the increased number of motorcyclists on the roads; however, the number of deaths has grown faster than the number of registered bikes (Wlazelek 1). Motorcycle fatalities have increased even after the increase in the number of bikers was accounted for. Helmets save lives and there is nothing that can change that fact. Riding 65 mph on an open bike with cars and trucks all around is dangerous in itself, so what is it hurting to take a little extra precaution not to end up dead or with severe brain damage. Fatality rates of motorcycle accidents were declining for two decades until the new law was passed and now they have increased dramatically (Berenson 2).
In the story “The Bicycle” by Jillian Horton the main character plays piano not because she wants but because she wants to make her aunt Tante Rose happy, but as she gets older she has a change in mind. In the film “Stand By Me” by Rob Reiner the boys have a change in themselves mentally and emotionally on their journey to the body.
Many works of art including paintings and pictures in the early 1900s involve the cons of racism. A lot of these works include the topic of racism very inconspicuously. In 1912, Lyonel Feininger published a painting named The Bicycle Race. Within the painting, Feininger hid small gleams of racism that some would not notice at first glance. The painting includes multiple men all cramped together competing in a bike race. The painting is very geometrical and does not show much detail to the people or bikes. After looking closely, it could be seen that the man in first place is white. The people behind the white man have darker skin but are still not in last, riding in somewhat of a line. Trailing behind is an African American, with no one else around him, in last place. Feininger attempts to show his viewers the hardships African Americans face against all other races. By leaving the black man in last place it shows the inferiority of that
Next, in the Rogerian Argument body paragraph, the author wants to equal time discussing both positions on the issue, but try not to persuade the reader. The Helmet paper spent a lot of time debating the adverse side effect and different incidents that happen to people not wearing the hamlets. By talking about the unwanted side effect an example of an event in the sport, this gave the reader to think not wearing a helmet is wrong. The conclusion paragraph fails to make a compromise between the two issue in the paper. The last part discusses why people should start to wear a helmet because it can save life's and companies are beginning to make them more comfortable and not so cumbersome to the rider. This paper did a poor job with the Rogerian structure. The article discusses the other position briefly in the
This article I read in the Science Times is called “Cycling 101 Needn’t Be a Collision Course.” Cycling, believe it or not, can be considered a very dangerous sport. When it comes to bike-related injuries, the United States has the greatest count. Overall, in recent studies, there has been a great percentage increase in the injuries resulting from cycling. The injuries from arms and legs have went down considerably. But, fatalities to the head and torso have increased. The lead author of the study of cycling states how roadways and streets could potentially be safer if there were more cyclists. He says this because he believes injuries will decrease if cyclists travelled in numbers. Other countries, excluding the US, are considerably safer
In our society, you choose when to start riding bikes, if at all, but in “The Giver” society, you only get to start riding bikes when you turn 9. “you’re very close to being an eight, and when you’re an eight, your comfort object will be taken away” (Lowry
Many people think that to wear a helmet should a personal desition and should be not mandatory. After all, if harm is cause for not wearing a helmet, it will be a personal harm and no a general harm for society, “People have the right to chose their own poison” (Rosenstand, 255).
There is a certain freedom that comes with riding down a long highway at eighty miles per hour on a Harley Davidson. That kind of freedom is something that only a minority of society chooses to indulge in, while another minority looks down upon them and chastises them for their decisions. “All bikers are bad news and the scum of society” they say as they sit in their easy chair reading shakespeare and sipping tea. Even to this day, there is a stigma held against the biker community that they are all just a bunch of trouble makers and beer drinkers that live outside the laws. Being a man who has been around the biker community since I was born, I’m here to share some knowledge and hopefully convince the skeptics that not all bikers are bad news.
Fear: A Safeguard Steve and Julia finally entered the newest amusement park. After turning in their tickets, they anxiously bolted to get on the new ride called Bull Rider; all of their friends have been talking about it. As they excitedly stood in line, they wondered what was in store for them on the ride. Exhilaration, adrenaline, and fun! After they waited for an hour, they arrived and sat together in the first glistening car.
Nelly and Edgar nurse Catherine for two months. They believe she had a brain fever. In those two months, all of Edgar's attention was on Catherine, “Day and night he was watching, and patiently enduring all the annoyances… hour after hour he would sit beside her, tracing the gradual return of bodily health, and flattering his too sanguine hopes with the illusion that her mind would settle back into its right balance also, and she would soon be entirely her former self,” (p.141). Edgar is doing this because he wants Catherine to return to her normal self once this is all said and done. Little did they know, Catherine is pregnant. Meanwhile, Isabella senda and apology letter to Edgar that he ignores, so she writes to Nelly instead. She tells

I have come to love bicycles in the course of the past year. I am especially fond of mountain bikes, including my own. Riding it opens up a whole new world of opportunities and challenges for me. I am still fairly fresh to the whole mountain biking scene, so I push myself to become better with more experience. Riding is an outlet; it is something I can channel pent up energy through. I love the sport because it is a full body, soul, and mind experience that affects all five of the senses.
Triangles are used all throughout history. Whether or not it is a symbol or a design, triangles are used so much because of how versatile they are. “Triangular trade is a term which involves three ports or regions. Triangular Trade usually evolves when a region has commodities that can not be obtained in another region.” as it is defined by Wikipedia. It began in the late 16th century and was in full operation by 17th century, after the British won the French and Indian War. It was used to transport slaves and other goods to and from America. The Transatlantic Slave Trade is the most well known triangular trade route and the slaves had the most brutal conditions on their journey and were treated harshly when they got to the land they were forced to called home.
