Words have changed the world. Words are an extremely powerful tool, they can inspire, calm, and provoke. The “Letter From Birmingham Jail” (MLK), “I Have A Dream” (MLK), and “Sheyann Webb” (Frank Sikora) are great examples of this. Words are able to inspire. They can be so inspirational and change peoples lives.

Often times, people view individuals by the way they handle situations and their responses to others. Every character in a story can be summed up in about three to four characteristics based on their actions and speech. In the short story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst, the narrator reveals his true character through the way he treats his younger brother. He possesses characteristics including authority, pride, and cruelty, and readers know these traits through Hurst’s dialogue and actions.

Words matter, they make a difference, they leave a mark. The words that left a mark, made a difference, mattered the most, was the Gettysburg Address. A two-minute, two hundred and seventy-two-word speech, a hundred and fifty years ago. Our fathers wanted everyone to be created equal. President Lincoln followed that vision.

In the movie, his personality traits came out more when he was having a human moment. Couple examples would be when he was in the woods with Abigail and was threatening her not to accuse his wife for witchcraft, or else he would kill her. The words provided the power to impact people to fight, suffer, and become emotional. Specially, the Martin Luther King Jr, Robert Kennedy, and in story of To Kill a Mockingbird has created and impacted people in several ways by using the power of words. Although, the words be powerless sometimes the words once required actions and technique to be emotional, logical, or credibility. Even though the words can lose effectiveness, the words have the power to provoke, calm, or inspire by making actions together and persuade others from use of rhetoric.

Potts adapted the railroad signals to the streets; he used red, amber, and green railroad lights, electrical controls and wires to make the world’s first three color traffic light. Leading and Moving a Society Through Words Words are perhaps one of the most influential tools a person can possess. It can stir a range of emotion, instill motivation, and give life to a push for change. With most great leaders in society, the ability to effectively use language, is one of the sole tools they can possesses and make them great influencers. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., is one of these great leaders. Through his exceptional knowledge and effective usage of rhetoric skills, he was able to create real change in the Civil Rights movement.
