After an entire hour of being asleep at the diner, Lucynell came about from her unconsciousness. She looked around the restaurant and could not see Mr. Shiftlet anywhere in the restaurant. A younger boy approached her and handed her a plate of ham and grits as soon as he saw that she woke up. It had seemed he was waiting all this time for her to finally wake up as he had been staring at her so closely, almost as if he was studying her carefully. However she was extremely hungry and took no mind to it and scarfed down her plate in a matter of minutes with no clue as to what she would do next. She decided it would be best to go find her mother as she was getting awfully scared and missed her very much. Lucynell could not speak or scream for help, so she instinctively bit down on her attacker’s hands. A large yelp that she was unable to hear came from him, but she promptly turned around to get a view of whoever grabbed her. To her surprise, it was the same man who worked at the diner and gave her the ham and grits. Tears began to run down her face and she started running in any direction she could that was far away from him. The man grew angry at her attempted escape and chased after her until he got a grip on the back of her dress and pulled her back to him. There were no signs of him letting her go for a second, for she was just so angelic and beautiful to him. After a long day of pondering who the murderer was, Officer Darren decided to go out for a drink at the local pub. He saw Mr. Craill across the bar, and watched as he ate a huge meal consisting of a hamburger, fries, beers, steak, and mashed potatoes. It was quite peculiar that Mr. Craill was able to afford such a meal, because he did only have a part time job at a small town burger joint. The story starts with three main characters Mrs. Crater, Lucynell Crater and Tom Shiftlet. It is the afternoon and Mrs. Crater and Lucynell are watching the sunset whenever Tom Shiftlet walks up their driveway. Tom attempts to start a conversation, but Mrs. Crater seems to be annoyed by him. The reader slowly learns that Lucynell can not talk.
After Lucy was returned, I did everything I could so nobody would touch Isabel. Soon, Ralph, my lawyer and Sergeant Knuckey knew bits and pieces of my story and all wondered “Why are you protecting her (Stedman 264)?” I told Ralph “‘I should have protected her better. As Jamie fell in to a deep sleep the murders that are “George and Lisa” quietly sneak out of the house and into the woods to check in on their victims. The murders arrive at the spot of the cellar and open it up to find two very weak people that are desperate for food and water. The murders threw in some food and water so they would survive even thought they were dying to kill them already. The couple knew they had to be quick because Jamie would wake up soon and he would notice that they are not there. The murders quickly hurried home to Jamie and made sure to make breakfast this time.
After Lucy Lurie was viciously raped after 3 men force their way into here farm house, she becomes incredibly distant as if she wants to disconnect from life. When Lurie comes to terms that his daughter was sexually violated and he failed to save her, the pain awakens his emotions and says, " And I did nothing. I did nothing to save you." (Coetzee, pg157) With Lurie's subconscious raging, he begins to feel extremely guilty.
First part of the story billy was looking for a place to stay when he came along the “Bed and breakfast” and decided to stay because it was up his price range, he was the only one staying, and the lady who owned it aka the ‘Landlady’ was so convincing he didn’t believe she could possibly hurt anything or anyone. The text says “She was about forty-five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm, welcoming smile.” “She seemed terribly nice.” This quote is telling the readers that Billy believed she is/was nice and welcoming and when billy said “she seemed terribly nice” you can tell that she is very convincing. Satisfied with the tree he chose Hudson set a bunny trap and baited it with a small apple slice. This process went on for some time going tree to tree till little Elliot, whose legs no longer wanted to walk, started to whine and complain nonstop. After Lori and Hudson could no longer take the seven year old's complaints they walked back to town. Unhappy that they only set eight traps they planned to go back the following day. You could tell that someone had already touched her because she had fingerprints on her beautiful face, and the laces from her shoes were taken out. There were open wounds on the bottom half of her body that were made by the hungry vultures. The smell of her corpse was so pungent that it would make anyone want to vomit; the smell reminded him of rotten eggs, roadkill, and sewer water. The blood that she was laying in had turned into a dark red that had hardened over a long period of time. He couldn 't look for too long because all the thought about death started to come back into his mind again. Wanting to escape the horrible thought, he ran like a cheetah released to the wild.
