It's always this crappy teacher we have, and we feel like they just don't like us. I was in eighth grade I just felt like Mrs.Wilkes hated me, but after all, she was the best math teacher ever.
Sometimes you don’t always get what you deserve. In the story, “Nothing But The Truth”, Philip Malloy, a 9th grader at Harrison High did not like his English teacher so he planned to get out of her class. As for him, his intentions went to the left after the school’s assistant principal got involved. He asked Philip to apologize, Philip refused, so Dr.Doane suspended him. The situation got outrageous, spreading around the nation and the truth never got out about what really went down.
Philip lost sight of the truth as he listened to his story being retold. He became convinced that he was being patriotic when his original intention was to get out of Miss.Narwin’s class. This shows that another lie was convinced, as truth. In chapter four, Philip’s father says stand up for your rights, be patriotic. He convinced himself of this implied truth. He even used it against Miss.Narwin in chapter 12 . When Philip convinces himself of an implied truth, the whole truth is still lost on him.

Whenever Miss.Narwin gave her input on the situation it couldn't get published because Mr.Duval lost it in South America, so it didn’t get published. Miss.Narwin also had many opportunities, but she didn't give her input because she knew everybody was brainwashed by Philip’s side of the story. Since she didn’t give her side of the story, the truth was never
In the essay Plain Truth, James Chalmers believed that the colonies could not win a war against England, because Chalmers believes that America’s army is not strong enough to fight against the British. Chalmers recalls from Common Sense how it mentions that America has the largest disciplined army under the heaven, but if that is the truth, America wouldn’t need support from either Spain or French. Also, neither Spain or French would help America, because if they did, it would encourage their royal colonies to fight for their independence as well. America by its own power at this stage without the help of other countries would not be strong enough to be able to go against the British. Chalmer also mentions how common people would not fight
On page 83 Philip say “ she really hates me. Philip thinks that the only reason he got suspended was since she has it out for him. On page 73 ” Something between you and Miss Narwin Philip only hummed since Miss Narwin giving him an awful grade. On page 60” Philip leaven this room instantly”Philip has really annoyed her to a point of breaking she was yelling at him over how he was talking back to her. 212 Philip says “I don't know the words” When Philip says I don’t know the words you know that he was only doing it for the reason of the teacher.
The poem "The Truth" by Ross Gay was about the struggle of a man working at
In May of 1983, some students in the journalism class at hazel wood high school in Missouri, made the final edition of the school newspaper. They then gave the newspaper to the adviser, Howard Emerson, who wa a newbie. He gave the principal the final review of the paper before it was published. When the principal, Reynolds, reviewed the paper, there were 2 articles that he didn’t like. The first article was about teen pregnancy, including some comments from students that were pregnant at the school. Names weren’t given, but Reynolds thought there was too much information on the topic and he was concerned about the privacy of the students. So he took that article out. The second article was about divorce, and this one included a lot of personal stuff. Reynolds was not happy about what the students said about their families. One student said a lot of revealing things about their dad, and the dad hadn’t been given a chance to explain himself. He also didn’t want 9th graders to be reading about sex and birth control, which were in both articles. Reynolds took out the second article also, and published the rest of the paper.
In the beginning of The Cay, Phillip can be seen as innocent because of how he acts about the Germans and leaving the island. Phillip states, “Then I began to wonder if the Germans would send soldiers too. About nine-thirty I sneaked out of bed, went to the tool house, and took a hatchet out. I put it under the couch. It was the only thing I could think of to use for fighting the Germans” (Taylor 19). This is an important quote because in this quote he takes a shovel worried the German soldiers may come. He also acts very childish by not telling his parents but instead waiting for them to go to sleep and sneaking out to get a shovel. He does not understand war because when the harbor was attacked he was not afraid and did not get why he could not go certain places, such as
Philip is never really clear on his facts. He never tells his parents the real reason he isn’t going out for track. He completely lied when he said no one really even like Ms. Narwin. Ms. Narwin was also never out to get him, yet that’s what he told several people. Most importantly though, he never made it clear weather he was singing or humming the National Anthem. If he would have just made it clear that he was humming in the first place, patriotism might not have been such assumed intention. On page 35, 46, and 50-54, you see these deceptions.
Sir Philip appears to be completely devoid not only of puritanical principles, but also Christian principles. When his ploy to free Magawisca in order to be liberated from Rosa is devastated, getting attacked by the prisoner, Morton, and then being rescued by Magawisca and the jailer, Barnaby Tuttle, Sir Philip becomes painfully aware of his falsity. He realizes, by comparing himself to Barnaby, that "genuine goodness ... rings true at every trial; while hypocrisy, though it show a face fair and bright, yet, like a new false coin, betrays at every scratch the base metal" (261). While the goodness of people such as Barnaby, Magawisca, and Hope will remain unfailing
When he tried to try out for the school track team, his coach, ______, said that in the student handbook that students who are failing a class cannot join an after-school activity. Instead of asking for extra credit work like coach _____ advised. Furthermore, Philip’s friends were in his homeroom when he was humming. Most of them thought that he was just trying to make a laugh or to irritate Ms. Narwin. But when the story on the newspaper said otherwise, Philip’s friends really begin to think that Philip was trying to irritate Ms. Narwin. Practically everyone in the school likes Ms. Narwin, Phil’s friends are trying to prove her innocence. Finally, near the end of the book, Philip’s first day in the Private school, Philip’s homeroom teacher asked if he would sing the National Anthem, Philip said with tears in his eyes that he doesn’t know the words. When Philip hummed the National Anthem, he told the press and his parents that he was singing instead of humming the
Now instead of one small lie, there is a spider web which will eventually entangle Philip. At the end of the novel, Philip essentially wins and gets what he wants. He is not only rid of Ms. Narwin but the entire school. Ironically enough, he attends Washington Academy a school where people are encouraged to sing the national anthem. When asked to lead his new class in singing the anthem, he begins to cry for he does not know the words. His spider web of lies has engulfed him and he has ultimately led to his own
This caused the situation to get out of hand and created the main conflict in the book. Mr.Lunser asked Phillip when the Star Spangled Banner was being played, “You want to sing?” and he responded, “No” (page 150). This proves that he was lying because he said to Miss Narwin, “I was being patriotic.” (page 60). If you only hum the star spangled banner during a class with a teacher you can't stand and nowhere else than you are not patriotic. This shows that he became a dynamic character after he got what he wanted. Philip stated, “I don't know the words.” (page 177). This proved that he was lying because he told his parents that Miss narwin would not let him sing the national anthem. Then, they called reporters and made the news get out which caused a lot of character vs character conflict. He also lied to reporters that he likes to sing along, but we know this is not true because he doesn't know the words so he can't sing along. This makes him a static character because he did not change his ways of
The principal’s final verdict was so crushing that it left a lump in my throat. My childhood years of trouble making never caught up to me; I never thought it would. Every year, I would end up in one incident or another, but the result was simply a slap on the wrist. This time, there was no escaping punishment. I was to have in-school suspension for three days.
So freshman algebra rolled around and I loved it. After two weeks in the class I was three and one half chapters ahead of the teacher. He would only assign the odd problems for homework, but I’d do them all. Geometry was even cooler. But thinking back, not one of the teachers even commended me for doing so well. My father noticed I was good at it, but I thought he had to tell me I was good; he was my father.
The worst teacher I have ever had was my second-grade teacher, Mrs. Mark. There are several reasons why she was the worst teacher I have ever had. When I was younger I really struggled with school. I loved to go to school but I had a hard time grasping certain subjects. Unknown to me at the time I had a learning disability. I was later diagnosed with short-term memory problems, visual-motor integration and processing deficits (something to do with my neural pathways not connecting properly). I often would see words backward or the letters would get jumbled up but I did not realize this was my problem. Mrs. Mark just believed I was dumb. She really felt like I was a burden and I could not learn. She often would blow off the questions I have even if they valid. She even told my parents that she would just pass me, even though I was failing because there is no possible way I could understand any of these subjects. Even though this teacher gave up on me my parents did not.
Philip has a lot to blame for the outcome in the novel. He was a distraction during the Star-Spangled Banner. In the beginning of class he didn't like Miss Narwin and wanted out of her classes. Philip would constantly hum during the National Anthem, he doesn't stop when Miss Narwin told him to stop. Miss Narwin said, “Is that you Philip?” Philip told her that he was just humming, Miss narwin then asked, “Please stop it,” (Wortis 43) . Philip also lied to his parents about not trying out for track. Philip would not share with his parents about his bad grade in
My worst class experience all started in 10th grade year in an Algebra 2 class taught by Mr.Trichtinger or Mr.T for short. I'm going to tell you the horror he unleashed upon me and everybody else in that class. He could have probably won worst teacher of the year for that season because I don't see how anybody could've topped his performance in that category. I had never met a teacher that went out of their way to start arguments with their students. I had never met before a person I truly hated with a passion all before I met Mr.T.
