Anthony Padgen describes in his book Peoples and Empires of the rule of Alexander the Great. He writes of his conquests and his vision for the way he would rule his empire. He was a man who wanted to protect his people and to help it grow into a peaceful civilization where there wasn’t a need for war. Padgen compares his empire to the way the United States upholds its society: “The capacity to provide a living space for diverse peoples, to create peace and order in a world that would otherwise be at war with itself, and to defend a tenuous, hard-won, and fragile civilization against all that might threaten it.” (13) The United States was built on the idea of freedom and unity for all peoples coming from different areas of the world. This stems
Alexander the Great was the king of Macedonia, conqueror of the Persian Empire, and one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. Even at an early age, Alexander had the promise to become a great leader. Through all his victories and conquests, he has become a great hero and has had a large impact on history. That is why I chose he book Alexander the Great, by J.R. Hamilton for my review. Hamilton does a very good job with the story of Alexander the Great.
The United States was founded on the principals that every person was due equality, liberty and freedom as per the nations Constitution. The Constitution declared these principals not only for the citizens of the United States, but in principal expressed these rights to the people of the world. It was the expression of these rights that has led the United States to stand on the World Stage and work to insure that those who cant peruse or defend these opportunities have the help that they need to be successful in the dream of freedom.
Alexander The Great was born in Macedonia in the year 356 B.C., several hundred years before Christ and even before the rise of Rome. Despite this fact he is still a topic of discussion and study more than two millennium later for a plethora of reasons. His insight and ability on the field of battle has made him a shining example of how to conduct the art of war. He has been studied for centuries by both military journals and colleges. He has also kept the scholars of this world as busy as well. His choices to build cities and centers for learning and the preservation of knowledge such as the library at Alexandria have been able to provide work for generations of archaeologists and other scholars. His image over the years has been one
Alexander of Macedonia should be remembered as Alexander the Conqueror. Alexander was able to expand Persia and conquer several territories at a young age, “he invaded Persia, and within a decade he had defeated the Persians, subdued Egypt, and pushed on to Iran, Afghanistan and even India.” Alexander was able to bring in Greek culture and an educational system into his Empire. He accomplished things that most kings at his age would not have been able to achieve. He may have been considered a great king, but like most rulers, he had his downfalls, Alexander “was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of his own men and for the unnecessary wholesale slaughter of native peoples.” This wasn’t the only time Alexander was careless, during
Alexander the Great wasn't really all that “Great.” Sure, he led many successful conquests throughout his reign, but it’s not about how many cities, states, and empires you have taken over. It's about what happens after you take over, and Alexander's after doing weren't all too good. Although, he occasionally did show respect to selected few his wrongs outweighed his rights.

History has bared through many conquerors, good and bad, honorable and corrupt, weak and insane, but through all of this came something of superiority. Civilizations rise and fall like the tides of the ocean and conquerors change positions like the phases of the moon. There will always be points when society must suffer through the worst in order to peak at the top and progress over these spans of time. It is the ones who bring these evolutions across the eras that earn the titles of the people, the leaders, who shall be remembered. With each and every one one of these leaders comes something new, an addition, an expansion, an enhancement, to the past, present, and future of this world. The golden age of Alexander the Great brought an extensive amount of influences, improvements, and times of bliss into our history.
Through many history books and writings, many historians write about Phillip III, or most commonly known as Alexander the Great. Maybe because of how successful he was or maybe just because of how he had such a major impact in history. They tend to focus on the advantages he created, and the success Alexander the Great had as a leader not just in the military aspect of his reign, but also as a leader in the political side. The history shows the impacts and changes brought from the military, from which Alexander the Great lead, and the spreading of Greek culture he influenced through the areas he conquered. As Alexander the Great dedicated his life to further advancing his power, the world would never be same at the time for surrounding villages and empires that tried to defend their land against Alexander the Great with his army and allies.
The United States of America is a mixing pot of cultures, language, and ethnicities. As historian Daniel Boorstin stated in A Quilt of a Country, “Of all the nations in the world, the United States was built in nobody’s image” (14). Although we are all different, we each bring something to the table that contributes to the greater nation. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated in his I Have a Dream speech: “We cannot walk alone.” (262).

Alexander the Great is remembered as a conquering man who built one of the largest empires. Some describe him as a man with a vision of world harmony. Others see him as a blood thirsty man with a mental illness. One thing that cannot be argued is that he and his empire are fascinating studies. From his rise to power to his mysterious death is interesting, but even after he died the story is fascinating. Due to his death, his empire was divided and a long power-struggle began starting with his generals. Each account has its own story of war and betrayal. These days must have been hard for those in power; they never knew who they could trust. Only the ones who were skilled in the strategy of war and ruthless enough to maintain their power
The empire of Alexander the Great was amazing while he was alive but shortly fell apart when he died. His empire fell apart for numerous reasons, The first main reason was he left no heir to rule over the nations. Instead he said something that made it worse, when he was asked who should rule he responded to the strongest(Arrian12). The generals all thought they were the strongest so the fought over it. Another reason the empire fell apart was the citizens of each nation he conquered did not get along. The final reason was he did not establish a government. A government could have elected a ruler after his death and it could also take care of the problems he could not.
