Anthony Padgen describes in his book Peoples and Empires of the rule of Alexander the Great. He writes of his conquests and his vision for the way he would rule his empire. He was a man who wanted to protect his people and to help it grow into a peaceful civilization where there wasn’t a need for war. Padgen compares his empire to the way the United States upholds its society: “The capacity to provide a living space for diverse peoples, to create peace and order in a world that would otherwise be at war with itself, and to defend a tenuous, hard-won, and fragile civilization against all that might threaten it.” (13) The United States was built on the idea of freedom and unity for all peoples coming from different areas of the world.
