While reading this issue of, “Choices, the Current Health and Life-Skills Magazine for Teens”, I found one very interesting article that stood out to me. This article was entitled, “Secret Stress Busters of the Stars”. This article stood out to me because I am an athlete and often stressed, like many of these stars. Some of the things that I learned about from this article is that having a stable metal help is crucial, especially if you want to perform well in a sport. Stress is released into your body when your brain send out a signal to the nervous system and your body prepares for the adrenaline rush. After your nervous system fills your body with adrenaline, your heart rate begins to speed up and your blood pressure rises. Finally, your
Kelly McGonigal discusses the importance of viewing stress as positive, as opposed to negative, by detailing three specific studies and findings about stress. In the first study, it was discovered that people with a significant amount of stress had a higher mortality rate; however, this was only statistically significant if the subject viewed stress as harmful. If the overly-stressed subject didn’t view stress as harmful, they were actually at the lowest risk of dying, even compared to those with a minimal amount. Therefore, it is important to change a person’s perspective of stress. In particular, McGonigal emphasizes that stress is important for a person’s body: it energizes and prepares them to meet whatever challenge they are facing. Furthermore, it helps the blood vessels remain relaxed, thereby allowing the heart to remain healthy.
As athletes become immersed in the sporting world, they are more prone to mental health related concerns as pressure and stress begin to build. Rigorous training, pressures to perform, media attention and large sums of money at risk all add to the damaging effects of stress on one’s mind. Dr. Barry Cripps, a chairman of sports and exercise within the British Psychological Society was noted saying, "Stress-related illnesses are extremely common in professional sports, and they are becoming more so as the pressures on athlete’s increase. The expectations are enormous and sometimes people cannot handle it" (Bran, 2012). Immigration is defined as the act of leaving your country of origin and going to another different one to stay there permanently (Dictionary.com). Reasons, why people escape or leave their original countries, are varied; ranging from war, poverty, natural occurrences such as earthquakes while others just take the step for fun purposes. A reform is a change from the way things were done originally and make them better. Therefore, immigration reform is a term that is frequently used in political talks that refer to the alteration of the immigration policy of the nation. The debate is currently prevalent in the United States of America. It is a topic that has been discussed and reforms put across since around 1986 but it’s never addressed fully due to the conflicting stands taken by the leaders, the democrats, and the Republicans always have different views. Recently, the President Obama tenure has reawakened the issue. Some people support the reforms while others do not. It is a time the United States of America undertook immigration reforms as a solution to its porous borders.
When put under stress, both humans and baboons have cortisol and adrenaline found in their blood. These hormones are critical for survival, and other physical changes in the body such as a racing heart, increased blood pressure, and quickly responding muscles are all present when the body is put under stress. However, in regard to humans, these same physical responses can occur when the body is not in a life in death situation. Instead, it is common for psychological stresses such as public speaking, taking a test, paying taxes, or driving a vehicle to invoke the same physiological responses as someone in a critical situation. This can be unhealthy for the human body, as many people can get worked up over multiple stressors in one day,
Monster and Men have been around for ample number of years. In addition to this, every circumstance they have been portrayed in literature of some sort varies from the author to the time period to the genre. Three indigenous pieces that differ from each other are obscure from the: Macbeth, Beowulf, and Frankenstein. All three writers published each for separate purposes. William Shakespeare Constructed Macbeth for the king and was hinting advice toward the king. In reflection, the epic poem of Beowulf is not similar to Frankenstein in anyway. However all of these pieces of literature have an allusion to monsters and men. In stating this monsters and men are not universal throughout the genres of tragedy, epic poem, and romanticism novel.
Stress Is the body’s way of responding to the hectic lives most of us live, whether good or bad. The body releases chemicals into the bloodstream, which creates a rush of energy and strength If an individual is feeling stressed. This energy can prove useful if an individual is in physical danger. Because it enables a person’s survival instinct kicks in; it is often described as ‘fight or flight.’ In addition, stress can also have a negative effect on the body, for example: suffering from stress and leaving it unchecked can contribute to health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.

Stress has been an increasing issue regarding not only college students, but also student-athletes. Imagine the workload of any normal college student. Then imagine on top of academics, playing a sport which occupies the remaining available time within your day and weekend. This is the life of a student-athlete. Many student-athletes are able to handle the schedule and pressure that one faces in the collegiate environment, but some cannot. A large amount of people are unaware of the stress a student-athlete faces on a day to day basis. The ability for high school sports to give athletes a break from the classroom allows them to clear their minds. Students have the chance to forget about the things that may be bothering them as well as allowing them to have fun for a bit. Research shows that the movement of the brain’s physiology has an effect on the way that a person does things throughout their life. In fact, a study shows that people who have been physically activity or have participated in sports when they were younger are happier because they have been releasing endorphins which releases stress. Stress is the leading cause of depression in the United States and by exercising, the rate of stress in which a person has can be lowered. High school sports does not just benefit a person's mental health but also a person's physical health.

There are all sorts of clubs that are offered in high school. There are sports clubs such as soccer, basketball, football, tennis and baseball. Other clubs may be more indoor like gaming, business, and various academic and language clubs. Art, drama, dance, and music clubs are great choices as well. Additionally, there are so many more clubs one could choose from such as debate and cooking. Joining a club gives the student a sense of belonging. The student will usually gain friends and self-confidence if they join a club. Clubs can be offered by schools, churches, or other organizations. The chart below shows a study done by the National Center for Education. It shows that students who participate in an extracurricular activity while in high school do better in attendance, 50.4% compared to 36.2%; not skipping class, 50.7% compared to 42.3%; their GPA is a 3.0 or higher, 30.6% compared to 10.8%; their composite math and reading assessment is better, 29.8% compared to 14.2%; and 68.2% are expected to earn a Bachelor’s degree compared to 48.2% of those who did not participate in an extracurricular club, ("The Value of Extracurricular Activities Infographic"). This research proves that clubs are very beneficial to high school students. It benefits them as a whole person, making their high school experience better and their academic grades higher.
