Do you know about bullying? According to the article, ‘Bullying in Schools’, bullying is the deliberate and often repeated attempt to intimidate, embarrass, or harm another person. As we know, there are many reasons to bully each other. For example, physical differences and cultural background are the common reasons. In the story ‘All Summer in a Day’, written by Ray Bradbury, the main character Margot is being bullied and locked in a closet by her classmates as they continuously find Margot is different from themselves.
Margot’s classmates did not bully Margot at first. But as the story develops, Margot and Margot’s classmates feel the differences with each other, and they bullying her. Margot feels the differences with her classmates first.
In “Phoebe Prince: Should School Bullying Be a Crime?”, an article written by journalist Jessica Bennet addresses school bullying, the outcomes and the consequences that bullies deserve or not. Above all, this article aims the spotlight on bullying, a 15-year-old who took her own life due to harassment, torment, rumors, physical threats all leading it to being bullied by well-known good students. In any case, the process of being bullied has never been taken into consideration nor importance in the school system or by society in general. “It’s even gotten better over the past decade says Dan Olweus, a leading bullying expert”. However, bullying just does not disappear, it is still an issue that humankind does not have any diligence to the cause
In “All Summer in a Day,” Margot is hated because she remembers the sun and the other kids do not. The jealous kids put Margot in a closet and she doesn’t get to see the sun, possibly for another seven years. In “Vow of Silence,” the boy is hated because he didn’t speak and because he didn’t worship the bully Cassandra. As punishment for that he was hit, insulted, and found his stuff in a toilet frequently. In both stories, the main character is different from the other characters, and they are both bullied because of it. This makes me think that the authors both had the same point of view on bullying. They both knew that the kids who are different are the kids who get bullied. This makes sense, the kids who stand out are the kids who are easier targets for
Although the protagonists from each story get bullied, the results of the bullying differ in some ways. In the novel, “All Summer In A Day,” Margot’s bullies regretted what they had done to Margot. For instance, the author stated on page 6, “They stood as if
The book states "Bullying is done on purpose, with the intent to hurt or embarrass you." This shows that there is no mistake about the act , they're trying to hurt someone. In addition, "...sometimes a bully will corner you in an empty hallway and actually carry them out. But bullying is usually done for others to see. Bullies don't just want to prove their power over you. They also want to make sure that other people know that they have some sort of control over how you feel and act..." So bully make sure someone knows to show that they are powerful and shouldn't be messed
In paragraph two on the second page the author introduces a new character that had been referred to as one of the bullies. This character gets introduced with a conversation between the main character and the bully. “What’re you looking at?” said William. Before this Margot was staring out the window, waiting for the sun to come out. William being the bully he is, questions everything margot does. This is important to the development of the main character Margot because it shows her relationship between the rest of her classmates.
For a very long time, bullying has been a problem. Many wonder, are these people born that way, or were they turned into a bully from the factors outside of them? This centers around anything from a school shooting to calling fellow peers names and even to a group of firefighters getting into an all-out brawl. The article, “A Bully’s Future, From Hard Life to Hard Time”, written by Jane E. Brody and the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, prove that bullies are not born, yet they are made. Children are frequently forced into acting certain ways and dressing in certain ways so they can “fit in”. Many kids can feel alone and turn to bullying because they do not want to do what people expect of them. “In a videotape, the young gunmen attributed their acts to retaliation for years of taunting that they said friends and relatives had
Students’ online speech has been a problem in some schools. Online speech is when we post something on social media. In “All Summer in a Day” and “Raymond’s Run” 2 characters, Margot and Raymond are being bullied for being different. Margot is bullied, but could not stand up for herself while the victims of bullying in “Raymond’s Run” stood up for Raymond. Even though Margot and Raymond are being bullied, there are different reasons for their bullying and also different effects led to the bullying. “All Summer in a Day” and “Raymond’s Run” feature characters who are bullied for different reasons and to different effects, but both stories show the harmful effects of bullying.

After the government’s continual failure to prohibit the use of marijuana, taxpayers are paying a huge price just to keep marijuana illegal. The government is beginning to work with the drug rather than work against it, turning a crime into a business. This “crime” might just be worth it. Due to many positive arguments in support of legalization, numerous states have legalized the use of medicinal marijuana. and are able to experience some of the economical benefits first hand. As citizens of the United States, it is our duty to make the necessary changes in order to improve our quality of living. This regulated industry is capable of drastically changing the state of our economy by creating more jobs, generating tax revenue, and eliminating unnecessary prohibition costs.
Bullies in School Kathleen Berger 1 Bullying was once commonly thought to be an unpleasant but normal part of child's play, not to be encouraged, of course, but of little consequence in the long run. However, developmental researchers who have looked closely at the society of children consider bullying to be a very serious problem, one that harms both the victim and the aggressor, sometimes continuing to cause suffering years after the child has grown up. 2 One leading researcher in this area is Dan Olweus, who has studied bullying in his native country of Norway and elsewhere for twenty-five years. The cruelty, pain, and suffering that he has documented in that time are typified by the examples of Linda and Henry: Linda was systematically
