“The Cold Equations” by Tom Godwin is about how humans care for one another even when the world is uncaring. The theme is established at the beginning of the short story when Barton, the EDS pilot, does not jettison Marilyn, the young stowaway, immediately after she is discovered. Barton tries to stall as much time as possible by reading all of the information on her identification card, including the information that is not needed at a slow rate to give Marilyn time to adjust and take in what is happening. “He [Barton] began to read the disk, reading it slowly to delay the inevitable for as long as possible, trying to help her by giving her what little time he could to recover from her first horror and let it resolve into the calm of acceptance
“Colder Than Hell: A Marine Rifle Company at Chosin Reservoir” is a memoir written by Joseph R. Owen, a lieutenant of Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment. Lt. Owen narrates his experience as an officer in the Korean War, in an attempt to show the public what war is from a soldier's point of view. Readers are shown what sacrifices soldiers have to make during times of war, they are shown the experience of war through a different pair of eyes. The Chosin action is justly called majestic; and in this memoir, Lieutenant Owen tells the tale of the common men who made it so. Joseph informs the public about the experiences of the 7th Marine Regiment and the tragic end of the Chosin Reservoir where many Marines lost their lives. He shows us what sacrifices a soldier must make for his country, and he helps readers understand the impact of war on a man. The memoir was an extraordinarily detailed and realistic account of war, allowing the public to read the tale and enjoy not only a thrilling retelling of Chosin Reservoir, but also a memoir
The term MRE stands for "Meal, Ready to Eat", its created for people who can't start fire to cook and it is an instant meal, so it benefits the armies and campers. These kind of meals uses a chemical reaction such as exothermic reaction to heat up the food. An exothermic reaction causes the temperature outside goes up because it passes on energy to the objects around. However, the temperature outside goes down due to an endothermic reaction because it takes in energy from the object around. As a result of these reaction an exothermic reaction is use instead of an endothermic reaction, because exothermic reaction causes the surroundings to heat up and yet endothermic reaction takes in the energy such as heat from the surroundings and for this

For myself, the most exciting part to read in the short story "The Cold Equations" was in the very first part when the pilot knew that someone was hiding in the supply closet and he knew he was "not alone" the first two words of the story had me hooked. From here on he continued explaining that a tiny white hand on a gauge let him face the reality that a person who was not supposed to be on the tiny EDS ship was hiding in a supplies closet. At this point, you are as scared as the pilot as to what is in there especially with this line, "There was something in the supplies closet across the room, it was saying, some kind of a body that radiated heat." Consequently, the pilot has a dialogue with himself about the expectations of an EDS pilot and

In 2011, Jordan played in his afternoon round at the HP Byron Nelson Championship and did not attend his high school graduation. He would attend the University of Texas in the fall and turn professional following his freshman year as a Longhorn. Born to Shawn and Chris Spieth on July 27 of 1993 being a student athlete was not heard of. Both his parents played collegiate sports and his younger brother went on to play college basketball as well. The youngest sibling in the family, Ellie, was born with a neurological disorder and is Jordan’s inspiration for keeping him “grounded”. Being just 22 years old and a two time major champion is a huge accomplishment in itself. But, Spieth is part of a bigger movement. The era of Tiger Woods’ dominance is coming to a close and the sport is on a decline largely due to this. However, Jordan Spieth is leading the charge of a group of young, competitive, stout players The biggest significance of
Which of the following characters served as the antagonist in "The Cold Equations"? Use evidence from the text in the form of examples and explanations to support your reasoning. Barton Marilyn Commander Delhart Records Gerry I think that the antagonist is Marilyn because she causes the main problem in the story because she get into the stoways and there's when she causes the main problem , even that she wasnt a bad person and she dint knew that she was causing a big problem even that she said:" I didnt know this would happen, I just want to see my brother".
The main theme of “The Cold Equations” is based on sacrifice. It is shown when Marilyn had to die to save other lives. “ You’re going to make me die and I didn’t do a nothing to die for – I didn’t do anything – “ He signed deep and wearily. “I know you didn’t child. I know you didn’t” (Godwin 5). Marilyn is only one human life herself and if the pilot did strictly follow through the plan, than six other lives would have been gone within seconds. With that being shown sacrifice is the main theme in this short story in whether it was Marilyn’s life or six other lives had to be saved.
Endothermic reactions are accompanied by the absorption of heat. The dissolving of ammonium nitrate in water is an example of an endothermic reaction. The solution resulting from this mixture is colder than either the ammonium nitrate or the water. This is the simple explanation of what happens in an instant ice pack. The more detailed information will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
In a country where Divorce is more normalized than ever before, one can be guilty of neglecting to consider the pain it can cause, not just the couple, but also their children. The short story “Hot or Cold” by Maile Meloy is a remembrance from the author's life which communicates the divorce of her parents represented in a nostalgic memory from her past. In the piece, the author’s young self plays in a van while her parents deal with an unexpected encounter with a bear. After a brief chase, the parents escape and the family drives away. The author masterfully develops the story by hinting at the nature of the parents relationship by adding clever metaphors, until it is apparent that the parents eventually divorce and that the story is only a dream. In the short story, the author utilizes juxtaposition, a motif, and metaphors, to suggest that memories create narratives, true or otherwise, that help one comprehend events that are otherwise incomprehensible.
This summer I’ve read the book Heat by Mike Lupica. This baseball themed book is a out of the park excitement. It’s about a 12 year old cuban boy named Michael who is newly orphaned but loves to throw killer heat. But everything goes downhill when Michael can't prove his age by a lost birth certificate and gets kicked off the team. Michael tries to do his best by supporting the team by the sidelines. It gets worst, since his brother Carlos is only 17, they have to stay in the shadows so they don't get separated into foster homes.

Explanation: One night, a member of the Sanhedrin, a man named Nicodemus, came to see Jesus. He was afraid to come to Jesus openly, but he wanted to ask him some questions. He came to confirm one thing, that Jesus was indeed come from God. Jesus responds with the seemingly irrelevant but shocking statement that a man cannot see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. Nicodemus asks how a man can be born when he is an adult. Jesus proceeds to clarify that this second birth is a birth of the spirit, not of the flesh. Nicodemus, still confused, asks how that could be. Jesus responds by challenging his supposed authority as a “master of Israel” if he doesn’t understand this concept. Jesus continues, saying that he had testified what he had seen, and yet Nicodemus did not believe.
