Honor and pride are two words that can easily be confused, but have vastly different intentions. The definition of honor is to regard with great respect, John Proctor from the Crucible by Arthur Miller portrays when he decides to be hanged as an honest man. On the contrary the definition of pride is to feel satisfaction from one's own accomplishments which few would debate is the reason why John would hang. In the play there are three main points why what John did was honorable rather than prideful. The first point Involves the townspeople of Salem and how he wanted to pay his respects to them and prove that what was going on was a hoax. The second point involves his religion and how he wanted to Honor God. And Final point was
Honor - we often hear this word thrown around in daily conversation. Whether talking about respected members of the community or characters in novels and films, the word honor is used repeatedly. What does honor really mean, though? The answer to that question is certainly not simple, as the definition of honor differs from person to person. This idea of the various types of honor can be shown through comparing the protagonist, John Proctor, in the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, to Will Kane in the movie “High Noon”, directed by Frank Zinnemann. Proctor struggles with trying to find his definition of honor as it changes from being held accountable by society’s standards to his own private moral of truth.
For my book review I read the book, A Noble Treason written by Richard Hanser. The Noble Treason is about Sophie Scholl and the White Rose Revolt against Adolf Hitler. Taking place in 1942, Sophie Scholl and her older brother Hans were bright, young university students in Munich University in Germany. They had once been passionate supporters of the German renewal promised by National Socialism, as members of the Hitler Youth. But as their comprehension of Nazi barbarism grew, so did their moral outrage towards Adolf Hitler. In result, Sophie and Hans Scholl formed a small group of like-minded friends, which originally included a student of philosophy, two medical students, and a fifty-year-old professor. They were all identified as Christians from
Multiple studies have found that students are spending less time on their academic studies leading to a decrease in education and an increase in temptation of academic dishonesty. Cheating has been prevalent since mankind existed, but writer William Chace gives his outlook on the issue in his article, “A Question of Honor”. Chace is able to use adequate reasoning to engage the reader in an article that depicts perspectives from every angle. Included within the article are a sense of sympathy, through explanations and even a proposed solution of how to end academic dishonesty.
The book “No Matter How Loud I Shout” written by Edward Humes, looks at numerous major conflicts within the juvenile court system. There is a need for the juvenile system to rehabilitate the children away from their lives of crime, but it also needs to protect the public from the most violent and dangerous of its juveniles, causing one primary conflict. Further conflict arises with how the court is able to administer proper treatment or punishment and the rights of the child too due process. The final key issue is between those that call for a complete overhaul of the system, and the others who think it should just be taken apart. On both sides there is strong reasoning that supports each of their views, causing a lot of debate about the
Merit –compare and contrast the role of judges ,lawyers and lay people within the English courts.
Many years ago, before courts existed matters was handled in a privately or informally. This often led to violence and unjust treatment of innocent people. During the rise of the Greek City States and the Roman Empire law enforcement became a public affair instead of private. (Siegel, Schmalleger, & Worral, 2011). Along with this movement became formalized courts and other criminal justice institutions. This allowed for law enforcement matters to be handled in a more civilized manner for resolving human conflict.
In Elizabethan era revenge was not seen as good or bad, instead it was seen as duty that must be perform. There were no lawyers, judges, or a jury that a person could go to, to demand justice. The religious codes of this society deems revenge as immoral and wrong, but in this society there was a code of honor that made it someone duty to get back at a person who wrong a member of the family. In this era revenge was not looked at as totally wrong, but in the present era it is. In this society you cannot go after a person even if they did you wrong because then you will be committing a crime as well. The satisfaction of justice depends on the case and how much evidence the criminals have against them. Our society does not justify revenge,

Heinrich Böll uses his novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, to attack modern journalistic ethics as well as the values of contemporary Germany. The structure of this novel is important to conveying his message. He uses a police report format, differences in chapter lengths, narrator or author intervention, a subtitle, and the extensive use of the 'puddle' metaphor. All these things contribute towards the message in the text.
In Henry IV, Part One Shakespeare revels in the opportunity to suggest the idiosyncracy of character through his command of a wide range of both verse and prose. As a result the play is full of rich and different character parts (Wells 141). Two in particular, Falstaff and Hotspur, hold diverse beliefs concerning the main theme of the drama, honor. In Shakespeare’s time, honor was defined as the special virtues which distinguish those of the nobility in the exercise of their vocation–gallantry in combat with a worthy foe, adherence to the accepted code of arms, and individual loyalty to friends, family, and comrades in arms (Prior 14). Throughout the play, honor plays an important role in
In the Court of the Crimson King, the debut album by King Crimson, is widely recognised as one of the greatest progressive rock albums of all time, named by Rolling Stone Magazine as the best progressive rock album of all time, other than Pink Floyd’s fabled The Dark Side of the Moon (1973).
