Courage In the novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, written by Harper lee conveys that courage is in the heart of Atticus. Illustrating how all people can make a change, but those with courage can make huge differences. To overcome the doubts about an innocent black man, a courageous man named Atticus must stand to protect him. Atticus is the representation of courage as he attempts to bring justice to Tom Robinson, a loving father to Scout, and Jem, and is imprudent by shooting down a mad dog. Atticus was a courageous person that never gives up. Atticus is a lawyer and a lawyer must not give up but persevere till the person that is being accused is not given fairness. He talks with respect to his children, he is nice and fair, answers with honesty, patient, consistent, and gives life lessons to his children. He quarrels for justice, and wants to teach his kids to do the same. To demonstrate, Atticus always tells Scout and advises her that “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (33). This quote implies that Atticus wants his children, and everyone else to learn to not to judge a person like a book cover and to keep in mind to always step into other people’s shoes. As well as walk the life that there living in. If you get as far as they get then realize how strong that person really is. On the other hand, Atticus also advices jem and scout to never kill a mockingbird, it is a sin. In fact, the author states “mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up peoples gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us, that’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (103). This quote enumerates that Atticus does not teach Jem and Scout how to shoot with a rifle although he teaches them to listen to mockingbird sing Atticus instills life lessons in the foundation of personality such as sincerity, and open-mindedness but he teaches much more than
