I read The Pregnancy Project by Gaby Rodriguez. The book is about how Gaby overcame stereotypes and expectations put on her when she faked her pregnancy for a senior project as a social experiment to see how her peers would react. I enjoyed reading this book because Gaby wrote in such a way that I would find myself thinking of past experiences that could relate with what she was talking about. After I read, “One of the best things a role model can do is show how to get through the tough times and live a good life despite setbacks and hardships, because nobody gets through this life without scars along the way.” (Rodriguez 206), a lot of thoughts came to mind. One of the first thoughts came to my mind was my role model and how even though he went through a lot of tough times he changed his attitude and lives a good life. One thing in particular that sticks out to me is, “I’d see a group of girls purposely not making eye contact with me, just shaking their heads in judgment and gossiping with each other as I came near, and my urge was to go up to them and say, “What’s so interesting? If you have something to say, say it to my face” (Rodriguez 131). This was so thought provoking because I began to think how the world would be different if others did not talk about people behind their backs. As I continue to ponder on this idea I realized that there would be a lot of repercussions because if everyone said what was on their mind to someone else’s face a lot of feelings would get hurt. Although this is a possible consequence, I remembered that normally if what the person is saying is hurtful or bad many people would not say it to another person’s face, which is why it so easier to do it behind his or her back.
